Just home from a very relaxing week in Malta. My friend and I booked this hotel as it was cheap not expecting too much after reading previous reviews on here. Firstly it's most definitely in a prime location the view from the hotel is spectacular. The hotel itself is a 3* so don't go expecting 5 the room had everything we needed and was way better than expected. It really would have benefited from a kettle tho. The restaurant trattoria del mare are run independently from the hotel, pool opens at 9 and closes at 6, but was lovely and clean with plenty of beds. The restaurant we had breakfast x2 was not the best I've ever had but was sufficient the evening meals were lovely tho, and we found the husband and wife team and staff very friendly. Not much in the village at all a few restaurant s and a couple of shops, but 10 mins on the bus and you're at bugiba 10 mins the other way and you're at melliha both much more lively and cheaper for dining etc. Loads to do in Malta and the hotel is ideally situated to give you the best of both worlds :-)

Good view and nice pool... that's it. 38 ° there is not a mini bar to have some fresh water, the price for the Wifi is 1,50euro/20minites, the electric sockets do not meet the other european standards so you must find one (and surprise, you can BUY it at the reception). I did not find it extremely clean.

I'm not usually bothered where I stay as I don't stay in hotel all day but this hotel although is in a beautiful setting is a let down! Birds nest in air con on balcony, got bitten by bed bugs, bed linen was like a curtain, pillows were made with chunks of sponge and was unable to sleep! Arguments amount couples in hotel with no interference from management.the breakfast was the worst thing I've ever seen!Lettice, cucumber, cheese and ham! The breakfast room was invaded with flies and it was impossible to eat in there.the pool was used by couples not from hotel that thought it ok to act as if it was a hot tub!Unhelpful staff that gave no info to the services around and you had to pay for wifi that never worked at times! If it wasn't for the location of hotel it would have been a disaster! Seriously think before booking this hotel as although it's cheap it really is worth paying more to get better services!

Stayed here for a week and booked a sea view room self catering. The receptionist on arrival informed us that there was an error from our tour operator travel republic and in fact no rooms are self catering. I contacted Travel republic after checking in and they upgraded us to half board. Hotel: Basic rooms which are cleaned daily and towels replaced each day. The reception staff are friendly and very helpful. The hotel it's self is a 3 star so do not expect 5 star standards but for the price it cost to stay here for the week I couldn't complain. I found the beds comfortable enough and the air conditioning was brilliant much needed when the weather was 40c during the day and 30c at night. It took us 20 minutes to get from the airport and we booked a private transfer through Hoppa. We stayed in room 205 and I would recommend any of the rooms that overlook the pool and full sea view. Pool area and restaurant: The bottom floor of the hotel including the pool and restaurant is rented out by the owners of the restaurant trattoria mare. This does bring some problems because on a weekend the Maltese people pay to enter the pool area for €20 per adult and €10 per child. Due to this they get priority over sun beds and the pool so it would be wise on a weekend to get down to the beach or use this day to sightsee as you may be asked to move from the sunbeds. There are lots of sunbeds and umbrellas and the only day we struggled was the weekend due to the locals using the pool. The half board offer at the restaurant gives you breakfast which wasn't the best so we ate toast and had coffee each day. The evening meal consists of having a choice between two different starters and two mains an example would be a potato soup or fish soup to start, chicken breast, chips and salad or fish pie. You get a desert which is the same each day cake and ice cream. We didn't find the food great and I believe the chef isn't actually a chef which does add with the poor quality food. We only ate there twice and tended to go into bugibba for food as the quality is much better. Use trip advisor and book tables as the best restaurants are always full up. Location: First off the location over looks an amazing bay of St Paul's and this is the best thing about this hotel but The overall location isn't the best and the nearest shop is a good 10 minute walk away up hill and the bus stop a good 10 minute walk up hill so very challenging in the heat. Malta itself is a very hilly country so not many places are flat so bear this in mind if booking. If I stayed here again I would almost certainly book a car for the time I'm here as the hill walks took it out of me and my wife due to the intense temperatures. You can catch the bus which costs €2 per person and this is valid for two hours of travel. You can catch the 221 to bugibba which is a great place in the evening full of bars and restaurants. If you wanted to visit mellieha you can catch the 42,49,221,X1 which will take you to the centre of mellieha or stay on and it will drop you off at the beach. Bear in mind that if you are waiting for the bus expect some buses to be full and you may not get on. We didn't visit the capital Valletta but again I believe this is 45-60 minutes away on the bus again only costing €2 per person. Overall I would suggest if you're on a budget and not interested in sitting in your room all day then book here. If you don't mind paying a few hundred more then book to stay in St Paul's Bay or Mellieha. The transport system in Malta is one of the best I've known it's cheap and you can pretty much go anywhere in the island. The hotel could be so much better if they just changed a few minor things one suggestion would be to have a shop within the hotel and a bar around the pool area which sold snacks which you could eat around the pool rather than sitting in a restaurant with no air conditioning. I hope this provides those unsure whether to book a true honest reflection of the hotel.

This is the worst hotel I have stayed in, in my life. I took my 12 year old daughter here s a single mum. We have had many holidays and never had an issue on holiday. The restaurant managers and staff spit in your drink, shout at you and are extremely intimidating. Many people check out of this hotel after a few days of being there mainly because of the scary and disgusting restaurant staff. The reception staff all tell.you to stay away from the restaurant because they are scary and vile! we had no access to food or water in the hotel. the room stank of smoke. the bed was broken. holiday from hell. Bates motel!

This was our first visit to Malta so I have to take the experience of people who have tried various hotels on the island when they tell me this is a good standard 3-star hotel for the island. So, it does make you wonder what the rest of them are like! The rooms whilst not large were sufficient and clean. However it worth pointing out that whilst the holiday brochure says the hotel has a pool which it does the pool & restaurant are appear to be separate entities to the hotel! Breakfast is served between 7 am & 9 am and is sparse. Good if you are on a diet. There is a choice of hot or cold breakfast Hot consists of fried egg, two hot dog type sausage, grilled tomato & beans. Cold consists of one slice of ham, two slices if cheese, one slice of salami, quarter of a tomato and a slice of cucumber. Tea / coffee / juice various breads & toast. You cannot gain access to the pool till 9 am a and you will get kicked out of the pool at 6 pm prompt! Which we found to be disappointing as you miss the opportunity to sunbath at the times of the day when the sun is more pleasant. They also offer out day tickets to people to use the pool and on two occasions parties of 35+ turned up! Trust me its hell when this happens! Also restaurant and bar both close at 9pm so any chance of nightcap before bed isn't going to happen! But it you only want the hotel for a base & plan to get out and about each day its OK.

This is a very basic low budget hostel in the middle of no where , it says its three minutes to the bus stop its actually 15 mins walk. we booked with our 15 year old son with a request for a high floor and a sea view , on arrival we were on the 1st floor at the back end of the hotel with three single beds stuck side by side , totally laughable and nearly went mental at the hotel manager joeseph but to be fair he was a decent guy in the end and moved us up to the fourth floor with a sea view and this was the highlight of our stay at the ambassador, you have to hire a kettle , fridge ( we waited 7 days for one ) wi fi , you need to sit beside reception to get signal. the rooms were dated and small but to be fair the maids cleaned every day and replaced the towels. most of the staff are very good except for the wee baldy guy who owns the restaurant and pool ,, this guy is very surly indeed and he cant wait to get rid of you from the pool 6 oclock sharp and i mean sharp, theres no atmosphere at the pool and you have to sneak your own drinks etc as he charges £2.75 a can of rubbish lager. no music by the pool either , these people are missing a trick with the guests and dont seem to care.the so called lift looks like an old fashioned wardrobe and we did have a giggle every time we went into narnia,, in brief if you dont want to walk around like a peruvian donkey and be back in 1972 then dont go here!!

So me and hubby just wanted a cheap hotel to sleep in as we had plans to explore the island and visit friends who live there so for that it was fine. Rooms are tired but clean and functional. Little things like balcony light doesn't work, bathroom fan very loud but this didn't bother us. It has a pool but the bar is shut all day so you cannot get refreshments (alcoholic or otherwise) and you are not allowed to bring your own drinks. There were vending machine but these were off due to an electrical fault so essentially if you wanted to sit around the pool you could but without any drinks at all and no food facilities. (again - didn't matter to us but if that's what you like you would be disappointed). Breakfast - strained baked beans (a small spoonful), a deep fried egg and a large tomato) or cheese, salami and ham. Plenty of bread and butter, tea and coffee, Again - fine for me & hubby but some of the larger guests seemed a bit upset about it. I have only rated it poor as if you are looking for a "holiday" in this hotel it is not up to the job but if you just want somewhere to shower and sleep this is perfect.

Very quiet area which is just what I wanted and pleasant room-these are the positives. Bed didn't have mattress cover and bottom sheet too narrow so kept sliding off the bed, shelf in shower was dirty with leftover scraps of soap. I booked self-catering but on arrival was told my operator had made a mistake as they don't do self-catering but the hotel had reserved me a room only. This meant having too eat out all the time which was annoying and not budgeted for. I found out after talking to other guests that they had the same issue but all booked with different operators. The pool was nice but only open from 9-6 and locals paid to use it taking up all the sunbeds in the shadier areas and the temperature was much higher than forecast. The pool and bar owners are separate from the hotel but only offered poolside service and sold ice creams etc when locals were present at the weekend. The bar owner was very surly and the bar was deserted in the evenings-not surprised given his attitude! Finally, I had to report a male guest who kept harassing me and following me around the pool, which was commented on by other guests. I reported this to reception who told me to feel flattered by the attention! The receptionist, Stefan also advised me ot to tell the pool owners but have since reported it to the company I booked with who are taking it very seriously-I even wedged chairs against my bedroom door, I was that concerned by it. Otherwise, Malta is beautiful and Xemxija is very peaceful with excellent bus links for a couple of euros per journey. There is a small shop run by an English man which sells drinks, food etc, although he charges far more than shops in nearby Mellehia

We were staying in this hotel with my boyfriend for a week. The hotel is a great budget three star hotel, so don't expect five stars facilities. The room was cozy with balcony and the views were amazing over the Saint Paul's Bay. The airconditioning was excellent and in chilled the room very fast when it was on. The staff in the hotel was very helpful and helped us lot with the taxies and buses. The pool area was also good and there was always a free sunbed to use, and if you fancy a swim in the sea there was a place for it righ across the road! The hotel is in a quiet area in Xemxija and there is not much to "do", but the bus stop was right next to the hotel and there were buses going all over Malta (Valletta, Cirkewwa for ferry to Gozo, Sliema, Bugibba...). There was also a bus X1 going straight from the airport to this hotel. The village of Bugibba was very close and easy to access (bus 221) , and has lots of shops, restaurants and tourist attractions (Cafe del Mar, the Malta Aquarium, beaches, snorkeling...) in there. There was few restaurants nearby the hotel too, e.g. Indian and Chinese food, Pizza/Sandwich and seafood places. The hotel had it bar and restaurant too but we did not visit them. Also a great mini supermarket called Slipway was located nearby the hotel! We would recommend this hotel as a great budget option, for that it has easy access to nearby villages like Bugibba, the capital Valletta and it has got pool and place to swim in the sea if you fancy that. (The very few minus sides of the hotel were that the wifi was 15€ for a week and you had to pay to hire a fridge too. But again, it is a three star hotel so don't expect to get five. For those who have trouble to go stairs, I would not recommend this hotel for that the elevator was out of order quite often.)
