As part of our trip to Europe this summer, after London we headed straight to Mallorca and really wanted to enjoy the outdoors and the beach. This hotel is perfect, our room had a stunning ocean view and we had the balcony door open most of the time to let the natural air into the room. Alongside with that outdoor feeling was the rooftop pool and deck for tanning and relaxing, plus the beach is only a few steps away. Location, and pricing played an important role in the selection of the hotel, and we were pleasantly surprised by the amicable staff and how attentive they were.
A mate had booked this and one of his mates was sick so I was the fill in. Well happy with the hotel. Big, clean reception, english speaking staff, ok bed and room was fine for two of us. we made the most of the beach, two minutes walk and not far at night to clubs and the like. This area is good for nightlife and has it all close by. mix of people but more on the clubing side of 35. Food at the hotel was better than expected and we only ate out once. banging deal.
Justback from a quick two night stay at Whala! beach with my two kids age 9 and 14.Booked last minute and having read the conflicting reviews i was unsure what to expect! On arrival we were very impressed, very smart entrance and bar area, pleasant and efficient staff behind the check in desk,no queue! infact the receptionist actually showed us right to our room- i've never had that before abroad, even in some 4 star hotels they usually just point you in the general direction! perhaps it was just a quiete time. corridors leading to our room were in need of some tlc, walls needed painting and carpets needed replaced however our room was way better than we expected, very impressed.we booked a triple room which was huge and had twin beds set together and a single bed across the room in the kitchen dining area which had curtians to seperate it from the other beds - perfect set up for us. we had a fridge and a microwave, sink and cupboard with cups and glasses which was unexpected as some reviews said there was'nt even a fridge. I guess it might depend on the room choice? decor was very tasteful, walls could perhaps do with a lick of paint if i was being picky. bathroom was great, very clean with a huge double shower which worked great, loads of hot water, good water pressure. Even free shower gel sachets and hand soaps, again unexpeted! we had breakfast and dinner in the hotel.food was ok but as Arenal is a big german holiday destination the food choice at breakfast and dinner reflected this. We always found something to eat though and always plenty of choice and nice friendly waiters. Not sure i'd eat there every night if i'd stayed longer but thats just a personal choice. The hotel is in a perfect postion for the fab es arenal beach, its literally just across the road. Downside is the hotel does sit side on to the beach so very few sea view rooms. Our balcony was a tad on the small side and looked out onto a side street with other apartment blocks. Great for people watching though! No drying airer for towels, swimwear etc which was a shame. There is a small pool up on the roof and a small paddling pool for young kids which was ok for a quick dip but very few sunbeds available so we just went to the beach. I wouldnt choose this hotel if you like a traditional lazing by the pool style holiday. I would say this hotel is definately more for young people and groups, lots of big groups of loud teenagers having a great time at all hours which was very noisy when trying to sleep. We did'nt really mind it for two nights and my kids are older but im not sure i would like to stay there with young children, simply for the noise factor during the night, thats the only thing i could fault and something to consider before booking. The whole resort is fab with loads of bars, shops and restaurants but very busy and loud,a fun place to be for young Germans, Dutch and brits alike so if you are looking for peace and quiete this is not the place for you in July!
If you want a lovely grown up stay then this hotel is not the one for you. It is awful. Full of kids and the room facilities are in desperate need of repair. I have a child and can tell you that this hotel is not child friendly. Despite searching for a family holiday & inputting this fact every step of the way. Our hotel room was soooo hot that we woke up sick. We asked for this to be rectified and the engineer came but no improvements. My son's cot sheets were never changed for the whole week stay. Points to know: - if you are on half board you do not get ANY drink with your dinner. Not even tap/filtered water. You are also not allowed to bring in your own drinks so you are forced to purchase ridiculously expensive drinks. - the rooms stink. Especially from the bathroom. The three rooms I went in stunk. Yuck! - you have to pay to use the remote controls. The hotel rooms don't come with the to remote controls. The cost to rent a remote is €10 - no free wifi. Not even in the lobby - the food is disgusting. I lost half a stone. The chef has to be sacked. - no fridge or kettle in the hotel rooms. It was so hard to feed my son - the lift is painfully slow and small. Goodness you will grow roots waiting for the cramped little lift to come to you. Highlights - the staff members are absolutely lovely. I really couldn't fault them. - location to the beach is perfect. You could throw your beach bag outside your window and you are on th beach I have been to Sa Coma & I found the hotels& apartments there better than Whala Beach. You have been warned. Go at your own risk. It's not worth it to be honest. Do yourself a favour and Find a better place.
Cant really comment on anything negative about our holiday at Whala Beach hotel, the pool is excellent, the location is brilliant really, across from the beach and the strip of restaurants and shops, easy to get a taxi, and walk wherever. Staff really could not have treated us better or have been nicer, they were very fast with drinks and food and attentive. What also separates this hotel from others is the rooms balcony and view of the ocean, people pay a lot more money for that kind of morning view and to be able to have the privacy of your own balcony. We got everything we needed for a holiday and the price was hard to believe.
After reading some of the negative reviews I was a little worried about it, how wrong can you be. The room we got was fab (4th floor) nothing fancy but was clean and tidy. The hotel is located right on the edge of town with the beach across the road. It was noisy at night, but this is an area that's known for it's nightlife as well as beaches that's why we booked here. The whala staff were pleasant and helpful during our stay, when we saw them. Stayed fully inclusive and both of us found the food good to be honest, always best to go earlier, obviously. More young people staying here than old, we got on with them great kept ourselves to ourselves when we wanted to. Would go back, at the end of the day you get what you pay for.
Our experience was very bed from beginning. Check in from 14.00 unimportant for the reception, they told us the room has a late check out we had to wait.. You have to pay extra for each other room card, it's charged! WTF?!? The room was terrible, those pictures which you see in the Internet are unrealistic.. The room was dirty, hair on the beds, in the bath, cigarettes on the balcony, on the table was probably the last dinner, we wanted to leave.. The lifts in the hotel were still not working, the only positive thing was that the beach was just across the street.
Arrived late and tired but lady on the reception was understanding and got us checked in very quickly. Room was clean and had everything we needed. Not the newest but had good bed and great shower. Had breakfast included and was starving by the following morning so was pleased to find a good choice and we filled up before heading out. Beach is literally across the road and is gorgeous. We spent our entire week relaxing on the beach, swimming and getting brown. Very convenient with the hotel so close and to be able to pop back for anything. I agree there are a lot of Germans in this resort but we met a lot of English as well and had a great holiday.
Stayed here the last week in June hotel was more like a youth hostel, full of groups of young German and Spanish teenagers. The resturant was more like a school canteen, noisey and messy, plastic cups for dinner drinks and paper table cloths. At night it was like a school dormitory teenagers running around with no regard for anyone else. On the up side to this the bar was empty, but the alcohol choice on all inclusive is very very limited. The room was clean but a bit tatty, the staff try their best. The hotel has an excellent location right on the beach with taxi rank just outside. This is a German resort geared up for them so bare this in mind. I must say that at the end of our holiday alot of the teenagers left and the hotel then changed, cloth table cloths and glasses for dinner, a bit quieter and the bar was busier. This is definitely a hotel for the youngsters on a budget.
Paid for a seaview room as had seen the gorgeous views in pics and was totally worth the extra money. Sat for hours on our balcony enjoying the views of the beach, sea and boats. Great location! Room was clean and had good space and good natural light but would have been nice to have more drawers for all our clothes. I used my suitcase as storage. Food was good. Lot's of different choices. There are a few different areas to use to sunbathe and 2 pools but the main ones get busy early so we had to go to the beach a few times, which was great, but just so you know. Staff all lovely. Lot's of bars and shops right outside including an amazing ice-cream place. Had a great holiday!
