We stayed 5 days in March.Exellent location, close to the sea - to the pier, and also to the beach Malagueta. Nice rooftop terrace with spa. Our room was on the 10th floor with balcony, it was nice and clean. I asked a waterfront room, and the water was the smallest part of the view, but I I accepted because the other parts was not bad.I expected a bit more from breakfast, it was not bad, but It was one kind of vegetable /only tomato/, and a lot of baked goods, but I can not eat it, so I missed the veggies. But only that was a - , and a lot of +. Recommend it.
A fine hotel with well-maintained, well-appointed rooms, friendly, helpful staff. Restaurant menu was varied with reasonable prices, the location is ideal for a city visit. Unlike many city centre hotels which are often large and impersonal, the MS Maestranza combines a good range of facilities with a friendly approach and attention to detail.
This hotel is in a great location, easy walking distance to the town, museums and galleries. Opposite the harbour side where there are lovely bars and cafés. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are very clean and comfortable with good views from the balconies. The road is busy but the double glazing works. The restaurant is OK perfectly acceptable meals but La Canasta across the road is really fantastic, surprisingly good quality food at very good prices, a much better option for breakfast I think.
We stayed at this hotel from Sunday 5 March to Thursday 9 March 2017 as we decided to have a city break to Malaga, always just passing through Malaga when going for our summer break to Nerja along the coast a bit. We knew this hotel only because we stayed in it in 2013 after getting caught up with the French ATC strikes and were delayed by 2 nights then in getting home, and always said we'd use it again if doing a city break to Malaga - so we did. We were given a choice of rooms, and the receptionist suggested room 705 as it was one of the rooms at the end of the Hotel and had good views of the Cathedral and the city, so we agreed to that and really enjoyed the views in the morning and at night when all the main buildings in the city were lit up. Our break consisted of 4 nights on a bed and breakfast basis, and we were more than happy with the options available - choice of various fruit juices, tea and coffee, various rolls, wholemeal and white bread for toast, selection of cold meats, cheeses, pastries, hot plates consisted of scrambled eggs, fried eggs, those wee twinky sausages, and bacon, various cereals. As per most hotels our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels on a daily basis too. TIP - As it is NOT COMMON for hotels in Europe to have a tea tray in their rooms like the hotels in the UK do we always take our travel kettle for the bedroom on the odd occasion that we stay in a hotel when in Spain/Rome/France as we like a wee cuppa first thing in the morning and sometimes later at night before going to bed. I mention this as I have noticed on TA over the years that this point gets mentioned quite a bit and people complaining about tea facilities not available in their hotel bedroom. The Hotel does have room service though so tea/coffee could be ordered to your room.
Big hotel in the city centre. parking is available: 11 Euros per day. Single room was: 76 Euros, breakfast included. Staff is friendly and helpful. Tea and coffee facilities available. Room with comfortable big double bed
Arrived at hotel very tired. Was met by a very lovely man who ran out to taxi and collected all our luggage. Foyer of hotel lovely and welcoming, luggage was taken to our room and we were booked in by a very nice member of staff. Room was lovely and clean, beds comfortable, linen and towels changed daily. All staff were so helpful and very very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Food in the resturant was excellant both breakfast and evening meal, so much choice, could not fault it. Upon leaving we were again given excellant service, we did not touch our luggage once. All staff were excellent,to us all, especially as we had a walking stick. Please could we have a kettle next time though, we will be back. Thank you for looking after us .
Malaga is buzzing. weather fantastic. Maestranza very good value. Great staff. Central location. Breakfast was great. Take your own tea/coffee as none in room. Get a high floor say ten upwards for view. Has a fab roof terrace. Will be back
I had not planned to stop 4 days in Malaga, but a mistake in my return flight to London, required an urgent decision. Do I fork out £380 to fly back on the day I thought I was supposed to fly back; or fly back on the day stated on the ticket four days later? A clear week ahead made the decision easy; book a hotel. After consideration, I decided to book into the hotel MS Maestranza. Great choice, because the location was perfect. Right by the Bull Ring, with fabulous views of it. I was given the card key to room 901, at the back. The room has great tropical views up to the Castle; and below, the fountain. The front of the hotel has views over the sea and beautiful harbour with its wonderful esplanades, shops and restaurants. Beyond you have the chapel Picasso worshiped and nearby the square where he had his apartment. I was very happy with room 903. There are no chairs on the balcony, but I used chairs from the room to spent time people watching; enjoying the splendid views; the parakeets, gulls and other birds hover over the bullring as and when. Taxis' are right below, and it is lovely to hear the clip clop below as horses jaunt with carriage, driver and seated tourists as they occasionally pass by. Room 901 is beautifully designed reflecting Art Deco Oriental Spanish charm. Colour of the room reflect the yellow colours in the national flag and picture prints of Picasso art and picture of a matador on the wall. The room is slightly worn, but not disappointingly so. The price per night is fair. The food is good. Room service is prompt. The Club hamburger is delicious and they can accommodate "off" the menu card that is in the room, should you request something not therein. Bathroom is efficient, powerful shower, everything well thought out. The reception is, I think small, but clever in layout with a dramatic staircase that sweeps you up to the lounge, bar and restaurant. The front desk is compact and busy at times. The staff are excellent and are only too happy to please. Thank you Juan, who managed to get me a late stay in my room on my day of departure to 7pm for 70€. And for finding a dentist for me as I had some wisdom teeth trouble. The hotel is very clean, although some of the furnishing in the rooms and entrance need some attention. The impression is of a well managed, well functioning happy hotel, in a fabulous location that cannot fail to please the discerning traveller. Oh and a good tip; use the French style cafe next door. It is run by Gill, he offers the best coffee, tea, cakes, and breakfasts in the area. Great value and much cheaper than the hotel and everything is baked on site. Very friendly service. I will stay here again. Boutique experience in Malaga, just my cup of tea.
We spent four nights on a return visit to the MS Maestranza. The quality of service, comfort of the room and attentive efficient staff were just as we remembered. We really appreciated the ability to regulate the thermostat in the room. Sounds like a small thing but we've stayed in four and five star hotels where the climate control is difficult to figure out and/or unresponsive. The room was clean and very comfortable with a balcony overlooking the bullring. The location is great with the center of town a 10/15 minute walk down the lovely portside promenade. The only complaint we had is that breakfast is not of the quality you would expect. Although the choices are varied, the hot dishes were often lukewarm or cold, and the juices seemed watered down. Having said that, we definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to a return visit the next time we're in Malaga.
Stayed here on our recent trip to Malaga as it was recommended to us by a friend. It is in a perfect location, 10 min walk from the centre and it is right beside the beach and port. Our rooms were on the 9th floor and and a beautiful view of the port. The rooms were spacious and very clean and had a small balcony. Our rooms were cleaned daily. We didn't eat in the restaurant but we had a few cocktails in the bar which were very nice. There are 2 nice cafes near (one to the right of the main door of the hotel and one across the road) which so lovely coffee and cakes. I would highly recommend this hotel as it is in the perfect location, staff are very friendly and the rooms are spacious and clean.
