The room and location were both excellent—clean, well-furnished, and in a great area.

However, we encountered significant issues with the check-in process. We were not provided with any check-in instructions before arrival. After a long day of travel, my pregnant wife and I were left standing in the rain with our luggage, unsure how to enter the building. We and VRBO support attempted to contact the host multiple times, but received no response.After about an hour, a kind neighbor helped us access the building. From there, we had to find our way through the interior without signage or direction, eventually discovering the room with the help of another confused guest. We later received a message from the host saying our calls had been missed, but we never received formal access instructions at any point.In addition, the WiFi did not work during our stay.While the room itself was great, the lack of communication and support made for a somewhat stressful experience. I would caution future guests to ensure they have clear check-in details in advance.

Poor condition and no management present

There was little to no communication available with the owners. Upon asking I received partial instructions on access, the part left out was how to get in from the exterior door at the breezeway entrance. A resident of the building let us in. We never did get WiFi access, no info on how to turn on the AC, and the bedroom and common areas are dilapidated. Its a shame because it has great potential. On day 2 we found bugs crawling in our bathroom. The coffee cups in our room was dirty. Shampoo and soap dispenser were broken and some lights wouldn’t turn on. And it definitely has a weird musty-moldy smell, at least in our bedroom. I simply can’t recommend this place. Im a well seasoned traveler and have not before had such a disappointing experience—especially for the hefty rate.

Perfect Location

We loved our stay at Escala Opera! The room was very spacious, had the perfect balcony view, and the bed was super comfy. Location is 10/10. WiFi is not so good so if you’re needing it for business purposes would not recommend, however there is a nearby Starbucks and McDonald’s with free WiFi. Overall, would definitely stay here again for future Madrid travels!!
