Lovely staff at reception and restaurant who could be more numerous, as we had the impression that some of them were working 24 hours a day, although they were very committed you could see they were tired. Unique modern rooms, designed by Nini Andrade Silva which you almost don't want to leave. Superb breakfast buffet with high quality ingredients and good restaurant on the top level terrace where you also find the small swimming pool. Great view over the bay of Funchal. We will certainly return to this hotel if we ever go back to Funchal. The fact that it is located in a supermarket did not disturb us at all, since you do not have that impression once you are inside the hotel. The access to the rooms is well secured and there is a 24 hour concierge who had also arranged a taxi from the airport at our arrival. Thanks to all the committed lovely people who made this a wonderful stay.
Location is fantastic, hotel was busy but our room was very quiet [4th floor].The staff, as everyone says, were so friendly and helpful. We had a junior suite with Juliette balcony Bath in the sleeping area and complex lighting-we occasionally had to turn everything off to reset what we wanted! We loved the design. The theme of the vine and pebbles was everywhere-from the under root sculpture of the lower dining room ceiling and the vines in the outside breakfast area to the corridor areas and even the pebbles in the floor of our shower room. The food was excellent-the best for us was a french evening-a very talented chef-produced a plethora of tastes with every course. No hot spices but plenty of imagination. We will return to the Vine hopefully in the autumn-Madeira has so much to offer.
I stayed here recently for a week and the hotel rooms are lovely and spacious and the pool and spa areas are great for relaxing in. The rooftop bar is great for a cocktail in the sun. The staff at the hotel couldn't do enough for you and went the extra mile to make the stay as enjoyable as possible and I could not fault the service in anyway. Thanks to all the staff at the vine for a wonderful trip away.
All of the staff at The Vine were very friendly and efficient from the moment we arrived to the day that we left. We would like to give a special mention to Carmo in the UVA restaurant and breakfast room and Charles on reception who despite being very busy always greeted us with a smile and found time to ask about our day and our stay at the hotel. The hotel is in a great location within walking distance of the old town and the marina, there is a supermarket underneath the hotel which was handy for picking up water and snacks for our days out. The UVA restaurant was excellent, great service and food and good value for money if you ask at reception for the discount voucher. There was an excellent choice at breakfast, both hot and cold food along with a glass of freshly squeezed juice or a glass of fizz if you prefer. The bedrooms are very quirky with a free standing bath in the room, the light switches and blind controls take a little getting used to. There is a nice pool and pool bar on the roof if you want to spend a few hours relaxing. All in all we can highly recommend The Vine hotel.
This is a wonderful hotel in the centre of Funchal. Easy walking distance to the harbour and sea front and local bars and restaurants - that’s if you can tear yourself away from the hotel itself. The staff couldn’t do enough for you, were always pleasant and very knowledgeable about the area. My room was lovely and I particularly liked the turn down service and choccie left on the pillow! The roof top pool is an amazing experience, lounging on the sun beds looking out over the city with the bar just behind you - what more do you need. The food served in the restaurant was good but make sure you get the discounted voucher from reception or it’s a bit pricey. I will definitely be back.
Located above a shopping mall you might not think that this is a high quality hotel. But you would be wrong; once you get used to the slightly quirky nature of a number of things you would recognise this as a very good hotel. First the good things: the staff from the very first moment you meet the porter, through check-in to bar staff and cleaners they are all uniformly excellent; well trained, courteous and polite. The breakfast; simply outstanding with a huge selection of cold food, hot food, drink (including bubbly), breads and patisserie. The roof terrace; with many sun beds and other sitting areas, a pool and outstanding views both inland and out to sea to the south. A bar with a happy hour from 17.30 to 18.30. The location: almost in the middle of Funchal so it is easy to walk to all of the main tourist attractions and shops, with a taxi rank on the doorstep. An unexpected bottle of fizz and mini birthday cake on my wife's birthday. Now the not so good things: it's dark, in the lifts and indoor public areas. Our room: good, big bed and drencher shower and open plan bath. BUT, no bedside tables, nowhere to put the kettle to plug it in other than the floor (why is there an inaccessible plug point at the back of the safe?),no hooks in the drencher shower for bath robes. or towels, no towel rail anywhere, minimal shelves / cupboards, very odd wash basin and a lighting system which we did not really manage to figure out all the time we were there. This is the ultimate style over substance; very attractive to look at but very impractical on a day to day basis. The Uva restaurant, pretentious and expensive (see separate report) This is really an hotel for young, trendy couples
Stayed here for my birthday. We’d booked a superior room but they upgraded us to a suite given the occasion. They also gave us a free bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate with a personalised birthday message. The suite was huge with a king double bed; rain shower room and lounge area. There is a happy hour of half priced drinks and a great restaurant (Uva) which guests have a discount. The gym is a shared public gym on the ground floor which has plenty of equipment but not long opening hours. It’s a modern hotel which occasionally loses style over substance but we had a good stay here. It’s very central for Funchal, quiet and has good facilities. It’s in a shopping mall but once in the hotel you wouldn’t know. Moreover from the rooftop pool and restaurant there are lovely views over the town. On checkout too there are no nasty surprises too which is a good thing. Would certainly recommend for a stay here.
We chose the Vine hotel because it was close to the city center of Funchal. Most of the 4 and 5 star hotels are outside the city, so the fact that we could reach old town on a 15min walk was a real plus. The staff in the hotel was really nice, they knew it was our honey moon, so we got a minor upgrade and a champagne bottle upon arrival! The rooms are clean and have a very good size. The spa is a bit small, as is the pool, but with their happy our in the end of the afternoon you wont mind. It was a lovely stay and we recommend the hotel 🥂
Very good hotel with spacious bedrooms - albeit slightly quirky baths! Breakfast was plentiful with a reasonable variety of good available. The location made visiting attractions and shops in central and Old Town Funchal simple by foot. Will definitely return to this hotel.
We spent a great week at The Vine. Location is great and on arrival we were told we had received a room upgrade. Our room was gorgeous with the mini bar being a lovely touch. Our waterfall shower and separate bath were very luxurious. Every staff member that we met gave 110% service. Breakfast was excellent - a glass of fizzy at breakfast was a lovely surprise! We ate at UVA the hotel rooftop restaurant and the meal was exquisite. We both hope to return to The Vine in the future.
