When we arrived the guy on reception was so nice and friendly, always a good start, and remained that way for all staff members. Did have a hire car, there is limited parking space at the hotel so good idea to book a parking slot in advance, as I did. The room we had was nice and clean but yes would be good to have tea and coffee making facilities. My wife and I both very much enjoyed the breakfast, again chef a really nice guy. We were only there a couple of days before going elsewhere and ate out in the evening. Old town is nice, promenade a bit limited in distance (say compared to Canary Islands versions). Would recommend if anyone wishes to be close to the airport, you are not impacted by the noise.

The staff at this hotel could not be more helpful unfortunately the rooms have absolutely no drawers or shelves to store clothes which meant we had to live out of our suitcases or move to a better hotel. We chose the latter. Santa Cruz itself is a very small place and can be seen in one walk around. Not recommended.

Booked a single room, but was given nice double. Reception staff friendly, efficient and welcoming. Great situation only a few minutes from the airport - taxi around €7. Good situation only a few minutes from coast, pleasant walk around the area. Breakfast was good - a fine selection of hot and cold food. Would highly recommend.

I'd stayed here twice before, and the changes are amazing. From an over-bath shower you had to dance in to get wet, to a large shower cubicle with loads of hot water! The decor, once tired and very brown, is now bright white and grey. The staff in the 'new' hotel are as welcoming as in the old. And despite being almost under the motorway, and a couple of hundred yards from the end of the runway, you really don't notice it - Thanks to Madeira's wonderfully hilly geography. I didn't use the restaurant, except for breakfast (which was fine), so I can't really comment on the offering. The hotel is scrupulously clean; smoking is allowed on balconies, not in rooms. The hotel is also handy for local buses, the local cafes and bars are friendly and excellent value, with fine meals to be had.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this, especially when initially it seemed like we were being dropped in an obscure place flanked by wasteland. The hotel also had a big motorway overhead so i was thinking the we had picked a lemon. We did arrive late and was tired so we were relieved to see a nice modern room, we had to upgrade to a junior suite to accommodate our two small children too. The view was over the wasteland but that didn't bother me. What was a bad start was ordering room service from the 'fine dining' menu. We ordered nearly £60 worth of food including a steak and lamb cutlets with home made chips. When it arrived it was a tiny steak with accompanied by a bag of crisps and a handful of pre-packed lettuce and all for the bargain price of £18. Despite the shocking evening food (restaurant was always empty at night) the breakfast was great. Eggs to order, pastries, breads and bacon etc. We ate to last us the day. The hotel was clean, modern, staff were lovely and friendly. Pool was quiet and perfectly sized. Surprisingly didn't have any noise pollution from the motorway and was convenient for the bus stop, water park and small local village.

Just had a week at this hotel. Had 2 lovely rooms with balconies on the first floor. Rooms were lovely. Walkin shower with permanent hot water. Issue about drawers or shelves but not a deal breaker. Pool area. Clean and always sun beds available. Yes it is below the motorway but again unimportant. Lovely bar for drinks and snacks. Only had breakfast but that was superb. Chef there to cook eggs. Fabulous choice of hot and cold. Refurbished and reopened in May. They have done a great job. The staff couldn't be better. Pedro, Tatianna and Olga. Thank you. There is a courtesy bus to Funchal, which we used, even though the buses stop over the road. On a Sunday the yellow bus takes you up into the mountains. Worth a trip. Hotel also organised a private driver for the day. The small town is very close. A few good restaurants. Even though you have to queue at tapas bar. It's worth it. Can recommend the local garlic bread! And the poncha drink! Shop next door for extra goodies and cafe. The promenade is a nice walk anytime. Very impressed and would definitely recommend this hotel.

My friend and I have just returned from The Santa Cruz village hotel, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Still a few niggling problems in the room, No draws or tea making facilities. .no drying area for wet clothes, from Staff on reception were lovely and tried to solve our draw problem with some folding camping draws. It worked. All the staff we met were lovely. Room very clean. Breakfast was adequate. The chef was most helpful, if you wanted eggs scrambled or fried, you only had to ask.I had visited the hotel before the renovations. A very big difference. Lovely, Sandra from Loughborough, Leics

The hotel is well renovated and maintained. The staff is horrible and the service they provide is irritating. Breakfast is a joke. Grumpy waiters and every day the same breakfast. The atmosphere in the night at the restaurant is worse. Poolbar closes at 1900 and no minibar in the rooms. They just don't get it if you talk about hospitality. Santa cruz itself is very small and there is not much to do.

This is our fourth time at this hotel but the first since its refurbishment, the hotel before was called Santa Catarina and was more than adequate, we could not believe the transformation on our recent visit and love the new name, Santa Cruz Village. The entire hotel had been refurbished to a very high standard, the restaurant and foyer areas were lovey and welcoming, breakfast was superb and the rooms had been totally transformed, congratulations to the new owners , you.h ave done a wonderful job. One small criticism, there was no tea & coffee facility in the room albeit the website does advertise that there is. We love Santa Cruz and now we especially love The Village Hotel

we stayed here the first week in may 2017, the hotel as been revamped to a very high standard . all the hotel is very very nice . the staff were very good nothing to much trouble for them and always looked after with a big smile. we was on half board breakfast is not brilliant but was getting better as the week went on they still had a few tweeks to make but was listening to everyone and making them . the evening meal is a smaller choice than the full menu but the food was fantastic;. hats off to the chef. having read the reviews before we went we was in two minds weather to go .. but i can assure everyone that ALL the previous issues they had have been fully resolved ... at this place you get more than value for money . treat and fed like kings ..
