My family and I have spent several years at the Vila Porto Mare and we have never been disappointed! The management is always polite friendly and very professional… managers.  The service personnel are wonderful from reception to the waiters and waitresses in the excellent resturants to housekeeping, great! The grounds of the hotel complex are beautifully lain and always clean and the pools are controlled continually! If you asked me what we enjoyed most I would have to say Happy Hour at the bar drinking a cocktail in the sun before dinner whilst watching our son swimming! If there were anything to complain about it would only be that we would sometimes wish for entertainment that would suit the slightly younger generation but saying that the musicians that appear in the various bars are all very professional! We were on Madeira in April for the first time this year, otherwise in summer, and not expecting the weather to be too good but...18 - 20°C! We can recommend the Vila Porto Mare and have done so many times in the past... says it all!

Excellent hotel ,good facilities and first class staff . We enjoyed a relaxing week away from the great British weather in the Porte Mare which is within reach of most facilities in Funchal .We both enjoy walking so a nice stroll into town most days followed by a stretch out by the pool with a drink/snack afterwards was just perfect We'll be back

Stayed at the Porto mare hotel last October it was meant to be for 7 nights ended up being 4 through no fault of the hotel, it was the madeira weather to blame it was too high winds for the plane to land. When we did finally arrive we had great weather for the rest of the stay. On arrival we were welcomed at the hotel reception by lovely helpful staff, we got shown to our room which was very nice big and bright, the balcony was a great sun trap it was lovely to sit out on at anytime of the day/night. With breathtaking views of the hotels gardens and a slight view of the sea. Madeira really is a beautiful place. Back to the room the beds are huge and very comfortable, the tv doesn’t have much English channels but that didn’t bother my boyfriend and I at all. Who goes on holiday to watch tv? The bathroom is nice and modern you get a robe and there’s also a good powerful hairdryer not like them horrible ones that have barely any power that other hotels provide, you can also purchase it if you wish after your stay. There was shower gels, soap, shampoo etc that get replenished after use. The shower is over the bath which didn’t bother us, it had good water pressure not like a trickle of water that other hotel showers can be like The food I can only comment on the breakfast as I was b&b I did have a delicious chicken ceaser salad one day from the hotel and I loved it. What I did have of the food from the hotel was very tasty and had a nice variety of things. There are lots of places nearby the hotel that have amazing food as well if you decide to go for b&b you won’t be disappointed. Also Bolo bread in Madeira is a must you have to try it. Overall it was an excellent stay it’s very peaceful and has a great atmosphere about it. The pools are excellent there’s plenty of different pools to choose from an indoor pool that goes into an outdoor pool there’s also a hot tub. I am already booking another stay here this year it truly is one of the best hotels I have stayed in, I don’t understand these other negative reviews, there were no screaming kids and the music isn’t overly loud, it isn’t at all an oap holiday camp we had different ages in our group ranging from a teenager to 20s 30s 40s and 60s and everyone loved their stay and can’t wait to return! As for other comments about paying for mini golf etc it’s only about €2 who’s going to grudge €2? All in all I had an amazing holiday and I will hopefully be returning for years to come thanks for an amazing stay.

Back to the Porto Mare again for another stay. As usual everything was perfect, its an idyllic place to get away from everything for a while. You can still have the hustle and bustle of Funchal, but when you are around the pool you are in a different place - surrounded by beautiful gardens. We were looking out to sea and saw dolphins, the Christopher Columbus ship on the horizon, and one morning, woke to see the Queen Victoria sailing in past our bed room window (on the horizon). Will be back here again this year for sure

Fantastic hotel with a beautiful garden. We loved our stay very much. We will be back, hopefully already next year. Great morning buffet and restaurants. Fine room with a view to the sea and garden. Peacefully and nice atmosphere. A great and professional service from a friendly staff.

Another junior suite in the hotel. A great view over the grounds and swimming pools. Fantastic breakfasts. The staff very polite and helpful as ever And almost perfect weather. All added up to another great week in Madeira

this was our sixth visit and we were not disappointed. From the beginning of our stay to the end it was peaceful and comfortable. Beautiful gardens, food and excellent staff many the same for the six visits...can't wait till our next visit.

Our room was large, clean, bright and very comfortable. We had planned to eat out every evening but the quality of the hotel restaurants was so good we ended up eating at one of them six nights out of seven. The weather was much hotter than we expected for this time of the year but there was never a time in the day where we couldn't get a sunbed in our chosen location. The gardens are beautiful, especially for an evening stroll. We would have no reservations in recommending this hotel for both adults on their own or families in the school holidays.

We have been to this hotel on a number of occasions and every time it gets better and better. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The breakfast selection in the morning is amazing. The evening meal package is a great buy. The food quality is excellent. A must is Friday fish night and the Italian night. This is the first time we have been in March. The weather was beautiful during the day approximately 20 degrees and a cardigan advised for the evening.

this is the perfect place to wind down and relax. check in so smooth and only a short wait for our room. the room was superb with a gorgeous view and well looked after. breakfasts were to die for and such a varied amount of different food. i defy anyone not to find something they could eat and like. a big thanks to Marcia on reception for sorting out a minor problem with our room so quickly and efficiently. can't wait to back.
