We have visited this hotel twice in the past but this time we noticed a lot had changed, firstly we were given the wrong room even though days before we emailed to check everything was ok we were found the correct room but had to wait till next day, you are given your doors cards but left to find out which floor your on yourself with your suitcases by means of going up and down in the lift !!. A few original staff remain while quite a few of the new ones never smile or say a word especially at dinning times and are far to quick to take your plates while you are still finishing your mouthful, also at dinner in a five star hotel I don't expect to see people wearing shorts and jeans or flip flops when I asked about this I was told they were losing trade coz people wanted to wear what they wanted !!! Well may be this hotel was not for them I would expect people to make some effort .Jacqueline in the dinning room is amazing an can't do enough for you and when she covers on reception she does not disappoint so helpful and informative others could learn a lot from her. The outside pool area is still very much up to standard and probably there best selling point amazing views an the pool is huge an most the time no more than 5 in it at any time it's great, however the sun beds could do with an up grade. The position of this hotel is perfect just a couple of minutes from main town an walk into the old town where you find all kinds of expensive shops mixed in with quaint local shops a real treat. All in all Madeira WELL with a visit but Pestana your standards have dropped ,

Great location, great building designed by world renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer and 5 star accommodation and service. You won't be disappointed here. The hotel is 40 years old now so there is a little barely noticeable deterioration of the fabric but this is nothing compared with the stylish surroundings, superb public spaces and artistic decoration. You're really living when you stay here.

Thank you Pestana casino hotel for a great stay, can't fault anything,we both had a great stay.indoor and outdoor pools superb, breakfast great.nice staff.Funchal a great place to visit and will return again to this great hotel.

Very disappointed with hotel, very shabby, staff miserable, very different levels of service as indicated on reviews. On reading some reviews, feel as though we stayed in a different hotel! Breakfast ok, but had to wear sunglasses as sun so bright. That was after you found a table that was clean, never seemed enough staff in the morning and when you did they were too busy chatting to one another. The lady making omelets was lovely. Pool attendants good but all beds and umbrellas were rotten and need replacing. Hotel lacked any atmosphere. One bar open at night and took ages to be served. Rooms very dated and not impressed with having to pay for tea making facilities. Never been in a five star hotel where you have to pay. Hotel very very dated, Needs a complete update, we didn’t get chocolates of a night, sockets in bedroom don’t accommodate adapters. Lovely views from balcony but when you sat down on chairs, all you saw was a bit of concrete!!!!!!! Defeats the object really. Put a sign up on door do not disturb, so they knocked! I didn’t reply, so then they phoned, what does do not disturb mean! Fantastic location but they need to sort themselves out. One bulb in ladies toilet by reception was out all week, very dark in there, towels were dry and scratchy and very used.

You may be suprised by the architecture. It is different and refelcts late 70's love of concrete! The hotel is graded as 5 star, but under what classification is unknown. The rooms are good, large and well laid out. The corridors are long and the lighting is 'subdued' but adequatw and in keeping with the style of the building. Access is good throughout. The pool and other facilities are excellent, as we would expect. We found all levels of staff to be highly professional, polite, knowledgeable, and positive as we would expect. The breakfast is possibly the best we have ever seen in a tourist Bed & Breakfast package deal. One is not staying at Reids up the road of course. Other earlier reviews noting scruffy carpets are out of date. They are spotless and of good standard throughout. We did not use the bars or have other meals in the hotel. Points where the hotel falls short of 5 star status could be; Bathroom towels tend to be thin and need replacing. There is no room service menu, although we believe room service to be available. We had to call to get the phone to work and even then the numbers on the list provided are incorrect. We had to ask for a kettle. This was reasonably promptly proved with an initial supply of tea and coffee. Would we stay again. A resounding yes, particularly for the location and general quality of our stay.

We booked a Half Board stay following a recommendation as it is the closest hotel to the Old Town but it is getting very old itself and has lacked any investment in it. The whole hotel could do with redecoration and replacement of torn settee covers in Lounge Bar area and plus replace the chairs that have lost their support years ago. Tables in the main restaurant rock, not because on the legs but because they a loose on the upright pedestal. Towels in both the rooms and the indoor pool need to be changed for new ones that are not rough as sandpaper. Prices for drinks were very high compared to local cafes/bars. Upgrading from the Dinner Buffet one night to the Sunset Restaurant was not a good deal, I had paid an extra £60/night to change B&B to Half Board but only got £30/ couple allowance off the price of an Al-carte Dinner and the prices on the menu were way over the top. Clearly not value for money and I even looked to just miss the buffet and go out to one of the many restaurants that are walked distance of the hotel. The was no atmosphere in the Sunset restaurant as we were the only couple dinning in a 50 table restaurant over looking the main buffet restaurant. Would not recommend using this upgrade option. As the public areas do not appear to be air conditioned then it was very uncomfortable wherever you ate. Not the behaviour of a 5 Star hotel. The Evening Dinner Buffet was definitely not 5 Star food. Only half of the tables were set for dinner so on some nights guests were being sat down at tables that had not been cleared and reset. Clearly the restaurant was understaffed even though the hotel has data to say how many people have paid for the evening meal. On our first day it was raining and we managed to get Kidnapped by the Timeshare Tout and taken by taxi to the Pestana Carlton Vacation Club for a 90 minute presentation about the Pestana scheme. During this presentation it was made clear that whilst their other 5 hotels in Madeira, plus the 7 in Algarve, were part of the program the Pestana Casino Park Hotel does not meet the standards need to be included in the Vacation Club program. Clear confirmation as to the view of others that have written reviews about this hotel. It also came as a surprise to find that Mr Pestana has an office at the Casino Park Hotel. Overall I would not recommend this for anybody looking for a good annual holiday.

We were disappointed when we arrived at lunch time to be told in no uncertain terms that we have to wait until 3 pm before we can check in, not very happy about this when you have been up since 4 am travelling. When 3 pm came room still not ready so we told the reception staff we would sit near the desk where they could see us so that as soon as our room was ready they knew were we were. After about half an hour I asked again about our room and would you believe it the key was sitting there for the room and no one bothered to check or tell us. Not impressed at all. Reception staff not very friendly at all, you only get 1 bottle of water free in your room on the first night otherwise you have to pay 4 euros, rip off. Tea making facilities again you have to pay 5 euros each day after the first day, I only needed a kettle, as I take my own tea bags, and do not require milk, so I was not prepared to pay 5 euros for a kettle. On the web it states that you can have have an Ironing board and iron on request, when I mentioned this they told me that they do not offer this facility and to take my clothes down to the 1st floor and they have a room there, we were staying on the 5th floor, not likely to do that. Unbelievable. The Hotel is very tired and old fashioned, beds really uncomfortable, towels in the rooms so thin and worn .Hair dryer did not work very well at all, kept shutting off, thank goodness I took my own, safe failed to lock, so we had to get that sorted out. Positives, we had a side sea view room, which is what we requested and the view was well worth it, breakfast was ok, loads of cakes and bread if you like a heavy breakfast, very poor selection of cereal, mainly cornflakes and coco pops!!!. On the plus side if you want a glass of bubbly for breakfast you can fill your boots. Pool ok, but lacking in pool staff to put umbrellas up if you needed one, we had to do it ourselves most days. Beach towels very old and very thin, not very good at all. No mattresses on beach beds, which have seen better days. Pool restaurant was the best part of the Hotel, staff very friendly, which was nice, although we did not have much to eat there, you could get a decent glass of wine. cocktails again were a bit thin on the ground, as they did not have hardly any selection of mixers and could only do a very limited range of cocktails. To be honest this Hotel has nothing going for it except that it is a short walk down into the centre off town, which is where we went to eat and drink every day and you can watch the ships coming in and out of port. We would will not return to this Hotel again, would like to try the other Pestana up the road, where we went for cocktails a few times but that seems to only open to club members. Shame really. The other point I would like to mention is that we had to stay an extra night as high winds were stopping planes from landing and taking off, our flight was cancelled, so we asked if we could keep our room on for an extra night, at first we were told that someone else had booked that room, which surprised us as no one could land on the Island and hadn't done for a couple of days, then when we mentioned that we would pay up front for the room their attitude changed immediately and the room suddenly became available, strange that, but that gives you an example of what this Hotel is like. This Hotel company seem to want to make as much money out of their customers as they possible can, nothing much is provided free, unlike other Hotels we have been to, where we have had un limited water supplied in our rooms, and most Hotels these days provide tea/coffee making facilities free.

Myself and partner enjoyed a weeks holiday here last month. Whilst the hotel was clean, and staff friendly, it is not a 5 Star hotel. Our room was pleasant and had a garden view where we could see the casino. We never had any noise on a night. The breakfast buffet was good with plenty of selection (we were b&b and ate at different restaurants on a night). The sausages and bacon leave a lot to be desired but then you shouldn’t go abroad expecting a full English cooked “just like Home”! Not sure about the reviews about rooms not being cleaned, ours was cleaned everyday and fresh towels left, you just leave your old ones in the bath and they’re replaced. We enjoyed 2 massages in the spa which were good but would’ve been better without the sales pitch after (I never spend €50 on a moisturiser I’ve never heard of before)! Spa area was nice although steam room and sauna closed on last 2 days which was annoying. Drinks round the pool bar weren’t all too cheap and all week they had no coke which was odd as they had it in the main bar. For what we paid, the hotel was clean and good value.

the rooms were ok but some are in need of decoration. Most of the staff was unfriendly or arrogant. Only a few staff members stood out because they were so friendly and helpful. the food was ok. Prices for Drinks were ridiculous high (we were in other Hotels before and they were much cheaper).

We came over to this hotel for a special trip for my farther who loved this island when he was alive. The whole idea of the break was to take my dad's ashes as he wanted them in maderia, so the trip was a bit emotional for us especially my mum. When we checked in we were given the wrong rooms we has 3 rooms with sea views booked and when we checked in the man on reception gave us the wrong rooms facing the gardens we took our own luggage up to our room and had to go back down and tell them about the rooms they told us it was a mistake and they would put us into the correct rooms 3 days later which they did arrived Fri and got our rooms sun. As compensation for this they gave us a meal voucher for evening meal not good but under the circumstances of our visit my mum didn't want any hassle, a bit of a headache as we had to unpack and repack to move. The hotel is not 5 star but is ok the rooms and hallways are tired but clean we had a view of the new sovoy hotel been built which going to be huge. The food is good nice breakfasts lovely view of the infinity pool there is a indoor pool downstairs with a sauna a steam room and ice room . The gym looked good and people were always in it. The hotel is very 1970 looking from the outside and there is a casino on site as well we never used it as there are no insentives to go there they have shows on in the casino which are advertised in the hotel but at 45 euros again no insentives for guests of the hotel. The pool area and gardens are all nice and we'll kept staff seem good. All in all the hotel is good . Would we come here again No but only because they messed up with the rooms I explained when I got there the purpose of the visit but it fell on deaf ears and it was up to us to sort it out and a meal voucher didn't really compensate for the extra money we had paid for the sea view rooms and the hassle of packing and unpacking again. For my mum who has been coming here for over 30 yrs and was a member of pestana for 30yrs who wanted a peaceful time without hassle because of the circumstances I thought they could of done better. But as I said except for that the hotel was ok and was in a nice place.
