We joined our daughter who has 2 weeks Timeshare at the resort. We exchanged from our Tenerife Timeshare into a one bedroom apartment, 1662., next to the lift on the 6 th floor. This had 2 balconies, one with a partial sea view and the other one a mountain view, The apartment also had a bathroom and a shower room. The apartment was spacious, but we suffered from noise during the night, caused by the hotel's air conditioning unit during the night. Unfortunately, we couldn't be moved as the hotel was full, due to passengers being unable leave for the airport, which was shut due to high winds, which had been blowing for 3 days. The weather at the resort was perfect however.

My partner and I returned from here about a month ago. We had been traveling with my parents and brother who had stayed here before and are frequent visitors to the island of Madeira, particularly Funchal. Given this set of circumstances our welcome was a lot more personal as my parents knew everyone by first name and vice versa. The hotel itself is worthy of its 5* rating with its revolving door and light and airy reception which had many comfortable seats to relax in. The hotel prefer the term apartments to rooms as this is exactly what you get all bar an oven. All utensils are supplied and if you were missing something staff were more than happy to fetch it for you. Assuming you were not staying all inclusive these facilities were brilliant as most places we have been too (mainly 3-4* in our case!) had no where to keep drinks cool or space to store snacks and fruit. I'll admit our bed was two singles pushed together but they do make the bed up with a mattress topper, if you ask so you don't fall down the gap if you are prone to rolling like me ha! We tried all the facilities around the hotel bar the spa and all were excellent! My favourite happened to be the inside pool purely because you could still swim outside and get the best of both worlds. The jacuzzi as well is a must for parents as from it you can see the whole pool without any fear of missing you children. Happy hour at the bar is an absolute must as the barman has a slightly different measure for mixers than in the U.K! Breakfast was lovely so much choice even vegans and other diet eaters would be able to have at lest 2 courses of different food choices. Overall I would recommend this hotel for all inclusive buyers as they would be able to benefit more from some of the other facilities on offer that were not included in our package. Madeira is a good island if you are young, want to take it slow and just relax. If you are of an older generation then there are plenty of things outside the hotel which would interest you but as a young person Madeira is not my first choice for exploring especially in the heat they are currently feeling! Lovely place overall tho! 🙃

Holidays in large resort hotels are not my thing so it was quite a novelty to stay in the Pestana Grand, but I actually enjoyed it a great deal and was delighted with my choice of hotel in Funchal (as well as bring bowled over by the beauty of Madeira). The hotel is large and was full in August but there is plenty of space in the large open spaces and in the enormous pool, the largest in Madeira. The sunbed hoarders are a nuisance but this is no fault of the hotel. Our family room with sea view felt very spacious, even with three beds in it, and had good amenities: a small fridge, safe, tea and coffee making facilities and plenty of storage. The aircon worked well and the wifi too, both in the building and pool areas. The staff are a great asset to the hotel: friendly, courteous and efficient. The hotel location is superb: it is a bit out of town, but at sea level, with a gate giving onto the Coastal promenade, and with gorgeous and well-maintained gardens. There was live entertainment near the pool bar most evenings. The breakfast buffet was vast, catering to all tastes and with freshly cooked options. The only little niggles: thin scratchy bathroom towels and lumpy pillows which are unexpected in a 5 star hotel but these are small details.

Awesome breakfast, facilities, staff, rooms. Very child friendly bit then so is Madeira. Highly, highly recommended hotel. We stayed with 5 and 10 Year old. It's not a 'waiting for god' costa del hell hotel. Charming, classy with great ocean views. Book.

Just had a lovely week long holiday at the Pestana Grand. Very clean hotel, bath towels changed daily and beach towels provided. The gardens were beautiful and very well looked after. Only ate at the hotel for lunch twice and the food was good. Some days it was hard to find a sun bed because many holiday makers saved the beds early and then went to breakfast but the pool staff worked hard to find us beds, some of the sun umbrellas could do with replacing as they are a bit tatty. The hotel is in a lovely position with wonderful sea views. The Magic gardens next door are worth a visit and are free to Pestana Grand guests and a must have is a cup of coffe and a slice of the home made cake at the tea house. I would definitely go back for another holiday.

The Pestana Grand is a wonderful hotel with friendly staff, rooms were immaculate. The only problem was the selfish guests who put towels on the poolside loungers around 08:00 hrs and did not turn up until after 11:00 hrs.The hotel has to get this stopped .

The rooms are good, well cleaned and the breakfast with good variety and some quality. There are some flaws in the amenities but talking to the employees, who are helpful, we managed to solve. The service at the reception started with some coldness but afterwards they were helpfull and friendly. It is a good option especially for those who want to walk around Madeira but want to finish in a quiet area, near the sea and with access to restaurants.

Positives of the hotel: Amazingly friendly and helpful staff, particularly the staff on the front desk Clean and modern interior of hotel Large and spacious bedroom and bathroom with good amenities in room Large pool area and enough sunbeds, umbrellas and chairs with space to relax Never felt over-crowded in hotel with lots of places where you could be undisturbed Lots of non-smoking areas, in fact smoking areas were not easily found Shopping mall with a huge hypermarket within 5 minutes' walk which was good for water supplies, snacks and wine/beer etc Free return hotel shuttle into Funchal about 12 times a day Good access to bus services to Funchal and beyond Airport bus drops off/picks up from outside hotel Happy hour twice daily at the bar Excellent choice of breakfast foods at the buffet even for vegetarians Free access to pool table Indoor pool, jacuzzi, gym, sauna,Turkish baths on site Things to improve: While one of the pools is dedicated to adults only, it wasn't enforced by hotel staff and a couple of (feral) children spoilt things for many for a couple of days until it was dealt with. Hotel staff need to make sure parents are told to use the non-adult pool and step in if this rule isn't adhered to Indoor pool and jacuzzi need to be warmer Outdoor pool would benefit from being heated as it was cold until about 2pm each day An amazing hotel - I would go back

Great location, very friendly staff, nice rooms and lovely pool area. We used the shuttle bus and taxis. A very easy place to travel around. Recommend booking a private taxi to tour the island -Pascoal -00351919853392 is his number - took us out for over 5 hours to lots of places we wanted to see, was a great guide and so friendly - 4 of us for 100 euros - amazing bargain. He gave us an hour at the botanical gardens - dropped us off for the toboggan ride and met us at he bottom - took us to the cable car and met us then to a little fishing village and met us again. A perfect day. Recommend Casa de Espetados for a great meal and also the pizzeria out of the back gate of the hotel and 200yards to the right. Also the Fort was alovely restaurant and the set meal with wine very good value - well worth a visit.

We stay 7 night at Pestana Grand at the fin of July, and we liked it very much. The hotel is in a great location next to the ocean, with a free bus running to Funchal and back to hotel. The room was large and clean, pleasantly decorated, with a balcony to the sunset and sunbeds. Pool area was clean and nice, with lot of sunbeds and umbrellas. The staff is kind and helpful, we particularly liked Ricardo from the restaurant, he was so helpful and friendly, and at the reception, Udo Vital which was friendly, trying to help you feel good. Breakfast was very good with large selection of pastries, cereals, toast, fresh fruit, yogurts, freshly made pancakes, eggs of any kind, sausage, hams, cheeses, salami's etc. Also at the dinner the buffet was varied with differently specific for every evening, having delicious dishes. At the bar they have happy hour with the offer you take 2 and pay 1. There is a shopping mall with a supermarket just 5 minutes to go. Rooms with sea views are desirable. Those overlooking the west reveal a sunset and a view of the Cabo Girao. A few steps away is a bus stop to get to the center in aprox. 20 minutes (1.95 euro if you buy from driver or less if you buy it before at kiosk). Walking on theseafront to the city center is a pleasure Taxi from center to hotel was 8 euro.
