Having stayed here a few times already we knew the standard was high and we were not disappointed. We sent an e-mail ahead requesting rooms we had used on a previous visit and were pleased that we were allocated these on arrival. Standard rooms are comfortable and there are sufficient wardrobes and drawers for most people. Bathrooms are equipped with shower over bath which lacks the space of a walk in shower now being installed in refurbished Riu hotels but was adequate. Vanity mirrors and hairdryers are provided. We stayed all inclusive and meals and drinks are of good quality and some are branded even on all inclusive although if you want premium you need to pay a supplement. Plenty of choices in the restaurant although the lunches did seem to lack a bit of imagination. For example the cold salad provided only "plastic ham and cheese " most days to go with the variety of salad vegetables. On two days out of our nine there was cold pork in addition. Riu why don't you put out other cold meat e.g. chicken turkey beef etc. Breakfast consisted of the usual hotel buffet type menu with cooked eggs bacon etc . with plenty of choices to go with it and if you are a late riser it is possible to have a continental breakfast at the pool bar after 10-30. The hotel is located right on the sea front with its rear gate accessing a short promenade which one way leads to a public lido with a small bar café and the other way to steps leading up to lower Canico Entertainment is provided nightly and consists mainly of The Late Night Band including a variety of singers and on the 2 nights they are off a trio takes their place. In addition there are outside shows and animation shows which last about 30 minutes. Entertainment is a personal matter and this may not suit everyone but we find this a pleasant way to pass the evenings. All said and done we shall return in the future

Outstanding hotel best that I have every stayed in where do you start, the hotel its self is wonderful with rooms to die for, the staff pamper to all you needs and the restaurant servers food that looks and tast great all washed down with good wine you can even have Champagne with you breakfast. Outside there are two swimming pools and even an indoor one to choose from. The bar is stocked with very good drinks and cocktails. Would well recommend this hotel

This is a great hotel and the team here just can't do enough for you. Food is one of the best all inc I've had. Pools are well looked after. Rooms are large and well cleaned everyday. Location is a bit remote but that's how I like it. Gym is not great and needs more equipment ( but guess you can't have everything ). If you thinking of coming here all I can say is just book it you'll enjoy your stay

Our first time in Madeira on All Inclusive at this lovely, somewhat isolated hotel. If you get any cloudy days there isn't anywhere to wander to, nevertheless the hotel courtesy bus runs to Funchal several times a day, book night before. Food good with plenty of variety although as a previous reviewer pointed out some cuts of meat could be improved. Drinks option very good with branded drinks and choice of wines. Waiters keep topping your wine at dinner! Very friendly pleasant staff. It was my birthday during our stay and our table was decorated with petals and the waiters came to sing to me at our table which was lovely. First time ever we asked to change rooms on arrival though as despite booking a seaview room several months ago we were allocated a first floor room overlooking the outside terrace area which wasn't very private. To be fair we were given the keys to two rooms the following day to have a look at and chose a front facing sea view on the fourth floor. Junior Suites seem to be at the front. Rooms are carpeted with dark furnishings.Bathrooms nice. Entertainment in the evening left a lot to be desired, but you take it for what it is. However, pianist and sax player in Lobby bar are excellent. This is a quiet hotel with a predominantly mature clientele. Very relaxing. Beach towels have seen better days, these need renewing. Funchal is lovely and the cable car ride is a must! Weather in June pleasant, although we did have one or two cloudy days. We were told the Canico area can sometimes be cloudy. All in all an enjoyable relaxing break.

If you have been to other Riu Palaces be prepared as this hotel is quite different to all the ones we have stayed in. For a start there is only one speciality restaurant which has only one menu. It is perfectly fine in terms of service and food but would benefit from at least one more menu. When there are four or five speciality restaurants with one menu it is not much of an issue, whereas in this hotel.... Rooms and Public rooms are fine tho by no means as large or well appointed as in other Riu Palaces. For example I think the plastic shower curtains need to go. Food and drink was good though we sometimes felt that money had been saved in the quality of the meat. In spite of these criticisms we really enjoyed our stay and I would go there again. The staff are first class, very friendly, helpful and pleasant. The ladies on reception couldn't do enough to help us - Thanks Very much. Personally I would like a few more activities Jorge is excellent and does his best to get things going but the majority of the guests seem happy just to lie on their sunbeds. We had a lovely sea view room with a large balcony which was very nice.

This hotel is spotlessly clean everywhere. The rooms and public areas are superb. The decor and furniture throughout are full of character. The food at this hotel is the best we have had anywhere, it is even better than cruise food. The service in the restaurant, again, is better than on a cruise. It is buffet service, but with your allocated table and waiter for evening meals, it was more like a restaurant rather than buffet. The waiter always ensured that your wine glass was regularly topped up. The choice and quality of food was of the highest order. The choice of food for breakfast and lunch was also excellent. The staff at this hotel were the friendliest I have encountered anywhere. Everybody had a smile and would have a chat. The reception would willingly give advice on anything to do with the island. The hotel may seem a little remote, but with a regular free complementary bus service to Funchal, it is well worth staying here for a really wonderful holiday.

Having visited this hotel for the first time we found that the staff in all departments make your holiday enjoyable and the food and drink is very good, but this is the same in all the riu's that we have visited. We did notice that if you are a return guest you did get fruit and wine in your room and a later check out if you had a late flight. We requested a late check out and was told that we could keep our room until 1.00 but others who had visited before were told 2.00. It was someone's birthday and they didn't get the cake and special service as others did. The reception staff need to know this when the guests check in. Having been gold card members we were pretty peeved! It does make you not want to return.

Recently returned from two weeks at the RIU Palace hotel Madeira, what a great place, ok so it may be a little dated and the air conditioning could do with sorting but this adds to the ambience. The staff are superb, very attentive when you wanted but also able to leave you alone when required. The food was excellent and the dining room waiters very efficient and friendly. Reception staff are very knowledgeable and extremely helpfully. We travelled with TUI and took a couple of their excursions. The secrets of the West in 4x4 vehicles was a fantastic experience, we saw areas of the Island that others never see. A great day out and it was a full day 0830 - 1830. My wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary and the staff made that extra effort to.make our evening meal more enjoyable.

We have just returned from the Rui Palace in Madeira two days ago A very impressive building. We were greeted with a complimentary bottle of Cava and bottles of water. There is also a fridge in your room. Hairdryer great compared to some you get. . We went all inclusive and were amazed at the quality and choice of the food on offer. It was delicious, hot and varied. It would suit vegetarians etc. Plenty of fish choices with open cooking too. We were given a set table at night to sit at in the evening only, but you could sit where you wanted for breakfast and lunch. The waiters worked very hard clearing tables promptly. Always with a smile. Our wine glass was never empty! Replenished all the time. The waiters even came together to sing " happy birthday" to you if indeed it was your birthday that day. The room we had was fantastic too. We were in room 1427 on the fourth floor and what a view!!!. All we could ask for and more. . Large rooms with 2 armchairs for sitting. Flat screen tv. Large balcony. You can ask for a bed topper if you want one but the beds were very comfortable. We had the late sitting for dinner which suited us but you could swap if you didn't want to eat that late for an earlier sitting. We pre booked the night before , the courtesy bus to go into Funchal. We took an open top bus ( yellow route). Which took us all around the Funchal area. Well worth it. The other end if Funchal is where it all goes on really. However if you want a peaceful , restful holiday with lots to drink and eat. Look no further. There is also an indoor pool which was surprised hardly used. A gym and a hair dresser. You can put your name down for which type of massage or beauty treatment you wanted. . There is a short promenade along the sea front which is fine if you want a stroll after dinner. At the end of our holiday we felt we needed to show our appreciation to every individual who especially made our stay that more special. Although I must add it is never expected!! Every single member of staff went out if their way to make our stay special. Would highly recommend this marvellous hotel.

I am writing this review to make people aware of this hotel. Unfortunately I cannot give it a 5 star rating. All in all food in the main restaurant is excellent, with plenty of choice and availability. The Pool side bar needs to have a bit more choice for snacks. The room and staff are also excellent, always attentive and want to help. The ONLY thing that let's it down in my opinion is the evening entertainment which is shocking. For such a lovely hotel with such good facilities they need to pay attention to this area. All in all an excellent holiday...
