stayed for two weeks in October this was our second visit to riu palace a amazing hotel ,the staff are a real credit to the hotel .from the moment we arrived to the day we left nothing was to much trouble .we have stayed lots of hotels but this is the best by far .will be returning next year
this was our 5th visit to the RIU Madeira Palace so this really says it all for us. The flight was only three hours and the transfer only 15-20, when you arrive you are welcomed with a Madeira wine and as we are RIU Members check-in was simple, no forms to fill in just hand your card over and all details are there. Just check other reviews and 90% are as we experience, great staff, great food, lovely rooms and great all inclusive. Only negative for some people is the location, but this is in the description and there a few bars if you want to walk a little way. All in all a great hotel and would certainly recommend to most people.
We booked this hotel directly with Riu and got a taxi from the airport, the 20 min journey & cost 20 Euro. We were welcomed with a glass of Madeira wine & and allowed to our room even though we arrived before the 2pm check in. Once in our room we received a phone call to ask if we were happy with the room- we were! This is a lovely, clean hotel and all the staff go the extra mile to make your holiday great. It's mainly for older people and not really catering for young children. There are two outdoor pools and one is slightly heated. There were always sunbeds available and soft cushions were provided in addition to the fresh towel service. I enjoyed the aquafit one morning. The food was excellent and a vast choice. I would recommend the freshly prepared omelettes at breakfast. My only slight niggle would be the weak orange-flavoured drink at breakfast but we found some jugs of freshly made fruit smoothies instead. We were on the 8.30pm evening dinner sitting which suited us well as it gave us time to have pre-dinner cocktails in the bar (great selection brought to your table by waiter service). Most of the children were on the 6.30pm sitting. The restaurant was totally refreshed between the two sittings so we always had hot freshly prepared dishes and our allocated table always had a clean linen tablecloth & cutlery. Maurice our waiter deserves a special mention as he was always on hand to refill our drinks. We ate at the themed Brazilian restaurant once (need to book it's only small) and it was delicious. The hotel ran a coach 5 times a day into Funchal free of charge and we were able to change the time of our return when we decided to come back earlier than we had booked. The coach drops off next to the cable car station which we took up to the Monte Palace Tropical Gardens. We enjoyed these gardens with sculptures and waterfalls and an impressive collection of crystals and took the toboggan ride back to Funchal. A bit scary but great fun! We easily walked downhill back to town in about 20 mins. We booked a walking tour with Explore Madeira (they collect you from the hotel) and had a very enjoyable day walking in the rainforest. We took walking boots anticipating that we would do this. It was warm enough to walk in shorts but rained all day! Still it was really beautiful in the mountains along the levadas and waterfalls. We also took a catamaran whale and dolphin watching trip with Magic Dolphin but unfortunately didn't see any, it was an expensive boat ride! All in all a great holiday to celebrate 25 years of marriage! Thank you to all the staff for making it special!
We spent 2 weeks in the Riu Palace, returning on 27th Oct. We have not settled since our return and just want to go back! There is nothing negative I can find to say about the hotel, the staff, the food even down to the shuttle bus driver. Everyone made us welcome from the time we arrived. The selection of food was vast and quality was unsurpassable. The waiting staff were attentive and more than willing to top up our wine glasses. We loved it and, as Arnold Schwarzenegger said "we'll be back"!!!
Hotel superb, clean and welcoming. Staff are amazing, always smiling and keen to help. Rooms spacious and very clean, although a little tired in places but still really good. We were on the third floor with a sea view and overlooking the pools/sunbeds. Food excellent, plenty of choice, well cooked and presented really well. Free Hotel bus to take you to Funchal and back. There was evening entertainment but didn't check it out. Plenty of sunbeds available throughout our holiday. We would definitely return.
We actually travelled as couple end of November 2016. To be honest Madeira was not on my radar as a destination to visit purely because I didn’t know much about the place, and had never stayed in a Riu hotel. I was extremely pleasantly surprised by not just the destination but quality of service provided at the hotel. So many friendly members of staff , housekeeping was impeccable literally no issues with regards to cleanliness of the rooms or communal areas. Food was as varied as can be with an all inclusive hotel, all cooked to great standard and table service for drinks was perfect. Breakfast was the best in my opinion even some bubbles first thing in the morning if that floats your boat (it was my birthday during our stay so I was guilty of a early morning drink ). Decor of rooms was very old fashioned it is certainly in need of a make over , specially because it doesn’t seem to match the lovely communal areas, it doesn’t need to be hyper modernised and it truly doesn’t effect your stay but just nice to have a more fancy looking room as icing on the cake..... talking of cake it was arranged by my partner to have a cake make for my birthday it was lovely really special moment along with bottle of bubbles. In all I would say it’s worth a visit for sure , so much so I am flying out on my birthday the end of this month to do another week here , my next review will not be far away.
This is a really great hotel about 10km to the east of Funchal. We had a week here on an “all inclusive” package holiday through TUI. The staff were really friendly. The hotel is a squared off U shape with the bottom of the U away from the coast. The hotel is right on the coast with the hills of Madeira behind it. There are 8 floors (levels 0 to 7). Most of the food is served in the main restaurant which also has an outside terrace area which overlooks the pool area and the promenade and then the sea. There is also a pool and lobby bar (funnily called looby bar in the lifts). Our room was on the 6th floor facing towards the sea. It was a reasonable size with a small balcony which got the sun from mid morning to mid afternoon. In the evenings there was entertainment on in the bar salao next to the lobby bar. If you booked at reception there were a limited number of tables in the a la carte restaurant (one end of the inside area of the pool bar). During the day you can get drinks brought to you by the pool, the pool bar or the terrace bar. There were plenty of sun beds around the two adjacent pools, with towels and sun bed mattresses provided. We had a really enjoyable week, and it’s certainly on our list for places to return to one day.
Well I can find no fault with this Hotel,Every one was friendly, and could not do enough for you, from the shuttle bus driver who took you to Funchal, reception desk, waiters, snack bar, sunbed staff, and of course our maid made our holiday great.food spot on could not get better anywhere else.plenty of sun beds and clean towels every day. Would like to go to Madeira again and this hotel. Thank you for great time there.
We arrived at the hotel and were made to feel welcome straight away . Hotel is very clean and all the staff helpful. We would like make a special mention to Beatriz who round the pool and bar nothing was too much trouble and she remembered what you liked to drink and always had a friendly greeting. Could not fault anything , room was cleaned to a high standard every day , plenty of sun beds . In the restaurant there was plenty of choice and they were always topping up your wine glass and checking everything was OK. Overall a very chilled week.
Nice hotel, evening entertainment was a bit hit and miss, however food and drink were very good staff are very friendly and helpful, beach no sand lots of big rocks, lots of sunbeds you also get towels around pools, nice and clean around pool areas, big pool bar, all in all a lovely holiday
