We stayed at the do carmo for 3 nights in April. Very good central location. Good value for money. Nice view of port from balcony. .rooms cleaned daily and staff very friendly and helpful .breakfast reasonable. . Would recommend for short stay
A friend and I stayed here for my birthday long weekend. The welcome was friendly, everything was explained well and the rooms were clean and had plenty of storage. The beds were ok for us, helped by large amounts of Coral. The bathroom was ok but not huge and the shower on full power would take a layer of the old dermis off easily. Just how I like it. I had the rolls Royce room, my pal had the Walt Disney one which would have given me nightmares. How we laughed. The bar was ok scene but quiet and Duarte the bar dude was great fun. A credit. Breakfast was typical Portuguese with a few hot items in it, and when you have a hangover there is a bottle of sparkling wine to start the day off. The one thing all of Portugal do right is bread and cheese, so even if you want only that it is great. Location is about 10 minutes walk to the sea, same to the cable car and 20 the edge of the lido. I liked Madeira and the people were pleasant, and may well return. Be fit enough for the hills😊
Excellent staff. Comfortable beds and a good breakfast to start the day. We had three dinners in the restaurant which we enjoyed. Hotel is in the locationfor Funchal. The rooftop pool is an added bonus. Too cold for us to swim in but a good sunbathing spot..
I liked very much, and the location was good, in the center of Funchal, the street was silent. Service was good, friendly, and to get advice about example beauty salon. +++ the staff of the hotel reception.😊 Even there was a finish, swedish and english speaking lady in the reception.😃 Breakfast was very good, even sparkling wine, if want to. Renting a car from the reception of the hotel was easy, and to get parking place near by opposite of the hotel. Thanks a lot!!! Regards Marja Regards: Marja
What a great find! Central without the noise and hustle and bustle of being central. Hotel was clean and provided everything we needed. Beautiful rooftop pool and several terraces giving a splendid view over the city. Breakfast was great, saw us through to dinner. Would definitely stay again.
We stayed at this hotel for 12 days recently. Our first weekend was the carnival which was really good. The hotel being so central was ideal for everything that was on for the local event. We agree that the hotel could do with a bit of updating but our room was cleaned every day, the beds were comfortable, the breakfast was plentiful and offered a good selection for all tastes. The staff were fantastic....helpful, friendly and informative. We felt they were genuinely interested in making our holiday memorable. There are more modern hotels in the hotel zone but we would recommend the Do Carmo...it felt like we were staying in the centre of the local community not stuck up in the tourist area. Special mention of Natia on reception and Reuben in the breakfast room.....they were great !!
Great Staff, friendly, smiling, and extremely helpful. We have to consider this is a three star hotel, not five star as in up the hills, miles away and three or four times the price, we were very happy overall with the place, the facilities and the Service.
Lovely hotel, amazing staff ...nothing was too much trouble for the staff at this hotel. Great views from rooftop terrace pool area. Nice decked seating area outside the back of the hotel - a little oasis. Lovely retro feel, full of character.
The hotel is situated in a good position for exploring the city and easy access to most areas. The view from the rooftop pool is spectacular and a nice place to sit in the sun. But there is no Air Conditioning, no extractor in bathroom, no tea or coffee facilities. Decor is very tired. Arrived to no hot water so moved rooms. Breakfast was good enough to keep you going through the day. Breakfast patio needs refurbishing badly fences down you are looking at a brick wall they could put a fence up with a nice mural to look at otherwise its a bit depressing. We had a very intense droning noise on the Monday night for quite sometime apparently to do with the water on Tuesday we had no cold water until the evening. This has nothing to do with the hotel but we had some very inconsiderate people above us with hob nail boots on all the time especially at 07.00 and 23.00 we told reception and they said they were walkers - so what please consider other people. Overall not one of the worst i've been to but low down in my top ten unfortunately for BA with whom we booked it through..
Really strategic placement in the center of the city. You can reach everything with a short walk. Nice people at the reception and a clean and welcoming place to stay. The only regret is for the breakfast. Good but not wonderful as the rest. We'll be surely back in this hotel. Most of the rooms have a nice terrace, available for smokers.
