We have stayed at Albatroz several times before with our young children. On this occasion we stayed at a newly renovated building on the hotel site, the "Vila Olga". This is the original house built on the site, and has lots of beautiful old features (stained glass windows, shutters, original wooden floors and ceiling designed to be like a ship when built). We had a room on the first floor with the children in an adjacent room. High quality renovation like the rest of the hotel, with great views over the sea from our room (although not all rooms do I think). Bathrooms were great, spacious and clean. Restaurant was fantastic, as I've written in previous reviews (won't describe again). Overall another fabulous holiday, would come again.
Just popped in for a drink and a bite to eat. We were made to feel most welcome. Excellent personal service .The chefs prawn and smoked salmon salad was devoured by my wife while I had the grilled prawns. ..exquisite!
I love Madeira and would not stay anywhere except the Albatroz. The staff are exceptionally kind and efficient, and it is a wonderful place to stay with children. I have stayed with my son, DIL and granddaughters before and they absolutely love it. The food is excellent especially the breakfasts which give a large choice which encourages young ones to try new foods. Everywhere is spotlessly clean and the freshwater pool, and sea pools are beautiful. It seems so close to the sea and there is a lovely feeling of being looked after!
This is a quiet, peaceful place to stay in Santa Cruz. We chose it because it's fairly near the aqua park and a bus or taxi ride to Funchal, where we went whale & dolphin watching. The hotel staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, the food is superb. There are very exciting swimming pools to play in and a tennis court. The rooms are spacious, light, private and well equipped. The view is gorgeous.
Now this is holidays. What a fine hotel. Everything is how it should be, and more. It's a small hotel with a personal touch. We were greeted and checked in by a super friendly girl. THE asset of this hotel is the pool at sea level. One of the coolest I have ever seen. I could stay there the whole day. There is a second pool at hotel level. Also very good. The restaurant serves lovely food (I had the scabbard fish and my partner a really tender fillet mignon - he is from Ireland and knows his steaks) and the staff there are super friendly. There is no noise from the highway. And yes, it is near the airport but you don't hear or see any plane at all. We love this place. Wish we were there longer but needed to discover other parts of the island. I really recommend this hotel. Top notch. And by the way, the view is marvelous. Uninterrupted view of the ocean. Different from the high rise in the new part of Funchal.
We stayed here over night as our flights to London were cancelled due to high winds. The hotel is spotless and the staff are fantastic. Breakfast was simple but very good. Eggs made to perfection. Close to the airport and free shuttle service. Thank you for looking after us during a stressful time.
A really lovely, clean, cosy, welcoming Hotel. We loved the clean room and the lovely view of the sea from the balcony. So peaceful. We forgot that we were right by the airport because it was so quiet. Loved seeing Fernando each morning sitting at Reception, always with the biggest smile. He went that extra mile to make our stay perfect. The restaurant was fabulous and so was the room service. Quite frankly we couldn't fault the place and we will be returning again next year for a nice chill holiday.
Stayed for ten days. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Hotel was minutes from airport but surprisingly you are unaware of the close proximity when in the hotel. The pools and pool area were kept immaculately. Restaurant food was good we ate in three times and all the meals were fresh and tasty. We walked into nearby town most lunchtimes and evening, pleasant walk along the beach path which is well lit and safe at night(.Avoid the walk along the main road noisy and dusty, path is not marked so walk out of hotel turn right head along road at first lay by head down the slope it's a bit strange but you end up on path under the road) Had a really fun trip around island on a motor bike with side car our driver Marco was happy to take us wherever we wanted much better than other types of tours pricier but you get to see more. I would say this hotel is more for adults not so easy to occupy small children here. The sea water pool is great but it is a long way down ,I think there should be a way of contacting reception just for safety sake.
We visited the Albatroz as a family during May half term as a last minute break. As always we had a fantastic stay. We are repeat visitors to this wonderful hotel. The friendly greeting at the airport and the wonderful service throughout the entire stay make this hotel very special. The environment is beautiful and the complex spotless. We had lovely weather and were able to use the pools (not the warmest but that didn't worry the children). We ate very well as always, breakfast is lovely with the fresh fruit and eggs cooked to order. The chefs will even prepare rather strange combinations of food as requested by small children and make it look and taste beautiful. We walked to the park in Santa Cruz each day, it is a really pleasant little town with an attractive square. I would recommend hiring a car through the hotel as the island of Madeira is beautiful. The walks in the mountains are lovely and there are walks suitable for all ages and abilities. We love it so much here that we are returning in the summer.
The staff are outstanding; welcoming, friendly, extremely helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Lovely rooms, fantastic breakfasts and delicious evening menu. The pools were great (the top pool could benefit from being heated) Pleasant lounge to sit and chat or play games in the evening if you didn't want to venture out. Would definitely use again if/when we return to Madeira.
