Greeted by warm and friendly smiles, efficiently escorted to a spacious and comfortable room with sea view and a lovely plate of fruit. Service was outstanding. Lovely pools, tennis court, good restaurant. I cannot thank the kind staff enough. My ipad was left behind in security on the day that I left. One of the staff kindly picked it up for me and has agreed to send it on to me. I am so grateful for the above and beyond of the lovely people there. Good people in a beautiful and convenient place for the airport. It was surprisingly not at all noisy. Best of all worlds.
My wife and I had a wonderful 8 night stay at the Albatroz! We were part of a group of 7 visiting Madeira for the first time. We had excellent communication with staff via email before our arrival so we knew what to expect when we arrived. Costa (who is phenomenal, as is the rest of the staff) picked us up at the airport on time and was diligent throughout our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. He even offered to do what he could to help our friend who was sick for part of the trip. During our stay, the weather on Madeira was difficult at times (although plenty nice for a Minnesotan like me), and excursions were cancelled throughout our trip. Costa made every effort to give us ideas to enjoy the island or encourage us to try something new. The rooms were very nice and well kept. Cleaning staff were present at least twice per day to make sure the room was always in tip top shape. I had an accident spilling coffee all over and they were gracious in helping clean it up without a word. The hot tub was nice (keep in mind you have to ask for the top to be removed to use it). We didn't use the pools, as the weather made it impossible to keep them clean. We had really hoped to used the seaside pool, as it looked so inviting on pictures. Unfortunately it was too windy and dangerous for us to use them. The food was excellent as well. We had breakfast every morning and were greeted with smiles at every turn. Had a great omelette had prepared for me every morning, along with plenty of fresh sliced fruit from the island that was so good. Ate plenty of breads and bacon, and drank coffee, hot chocolate, and plenty of fresh juices as well! As for lunch and dinner, we had good experiences with that as well, although we ate mostly away from the hotel when we were out for the day/evening. Another nice thing about the Albatroz was it's proximity to the airport. We didn't have to take a long sad ride when we were leaving. We got up and were there in minutes. They also provided a sandwich and snack the morning of our departure to make sure had eaten (we had to arrive at the airport at 3:30 am). We enjoyed the walk to Santa Cruz. My group of 7 felt completely safe walking to this nice, small town. We did it several days as there is one of the best food establishments on the island (Taberna do Pestisco). We ate there twice and had amazing food for amazing prices. You are likely to wait up to an hour to get a table if it's busy. Also, right next to Taberna do Pestisco is a phenomenal coffee shop/bakery that also serves meals called Confeitaria Los Nietos, where we had excellent fresh pastry items several times, and really good coffee! I can't say enough about the people of Madeira and how nice and helpful they were to our group. From the taxi services, to the shop owners, to the excursion operators and certainly the Albatroz staff, this island atmosphere will be hard to beat! All in all, we had an amazing trip and hope to come back to Madeira another time in a few years.
The hotel convinced us not only by the perfect location but also through the most friendly, warm and personal service. It felt like coming home every evening. When our flight was cancelled due to severe winds the staff made everything possible to arrange the best possible solution for us. Thank you very much!
We stayed here for two nights in Jan.Very convenient to Aiport with free shuttle service provided.Aircraft noise not a problem .All areas well maintained withe large well appointed rooms overlooking the sea.Restaurant very good with meals that are not expensive.; Staff are friendly and helpful. we will go back again next year.
A small hotel close to the airport but you don't notice this at all. Beautiful gardens and sea front. The sea pools are magnificent and we enjoyed the one at the hotel level too. Very helpful staff and delicious food. The breakfast is very impressive with everything you can wish for.
A fabulous hotel - wonderful friendly service, beautiful gardens, large rooms facing the sea with lovely terrace. Pool in gardens and 2 further sea pools a short walk down the cliffs. Pool towels and gowns are provided. The hotel is quite close to the airport but do not be put off, it is not disturbing. This is a very peaceful hotel. Excellent breakfast buffet. Good restaurant for casual lunches or more extensive a la carte evening meals. 20 minute walk to nearest village or short taxi ride to a village or town.
A lovely property with a breathtaking clifftop position. You are made to feel welcome by the friendly staff from the moment they collect you at the airport till you leave. The proximity to the airport makes for easy transfers yet when you are at the property you are totally unaware of it. There is no noise at all. The pools, both the freshwater one and the lower seawater ones are ideal to laze around and admire the sea views. There are ample sunbeds and space to fell secluded if you wish to. The rooms are large and all have nice balconies overlooking the sea.The beds are huge and comfortable and the bathrooms are well fitted.Little touches like fresh fruit in the room makes your experience feel welcoming. The restaurant serves excellent food at reasonable prices and the big breakfasts easily take you through to the evening. It is a short walk to the nearby village of Santa Cruz if you fancy a change of restaurant occasionally. It was our first visit to the island and we will certainly be back.
It's hard to fault this fine hotel. My only criticism is the occasional banging of cupboard and bedroom doors that echoes up and down the corridors. One is sometimes forced to share more of fellow guests' stay than one might choose. And, given the number of English-speaking guests, an English language news channel - BBC World, Sky or CNN - NOT Fox or RT - would be appreciated. Of the levels of service and the quality of the cuisine, enough has been written. Both were superb. A tip: make sure that the heavy glass sliding door is firmly closed before you turn on the air conditioning. It won't work if the door is open, even a fraction.
The rooms are light and spacious and we were delighted to have such a lovely view of the sea and islands in the distance. Situated conveniently close to the airport and not troubled by aircraft noise. Rooms very clean and excellent room service and pleasant helpful reception staff. The hotel was quiet and the gardens pleasant with interestingly plants and trees. The sea water pool was gorgeous at the foot of the cliffs. A little disappointing it was empty for a couple of days of our stay but it was refilled. Good snorkelling in the sea which is clear teeming with fis and crabs. The breakfast was excellent with a wide range of breakfast goodies and freshly cooked eggs to order. We would definitely visit again and look forward to it.
We stayed here for 11 nights and had a room on the ground floor. Costa and all his staff run a first class establishment which includes a drop off to & from the airport. Breakfast was lovely, lots of choice (my other half has a big appetite and was very well fed) the waiting staff and chef were so polite and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were clean, large & well attended with a huge, comfortable bed. Loved the pools down by the ocean, on a calm day we snorkelled and when the ocean was wild we sat in the little caves in awe watching the water pour into the pools. The other pools up the top were clean and you get a great ocean view whilst relaxing. The airport is very close & for me that was one of the best bits! Never got bored of watching the aircraft come around the bay then line up to land on the infamous airstrip. Noise can be heard when they land & take off but it's not intrusive and only lasts a few moments. We walked to Santa Cruz most evenings (take a left out the car park and follow the broken road to nowhere and along the ocean front - about 15/20 mins) lots of nice places to eat. In the day if we weren't relaxing around the pools we walked to the airport or Santa Cruz and caught one of the SAM buses. We are the type of couple who like to explore & mix with the locals. The buses are cheap & regular. Try and take the bus from Funchal to Porto Moniz (€12 return) to the Piscine Naturals! Amazing trip along the winding roads to the NW of Madeira. Going in the other direction, Baia d'abra is a must. Our first time in Madeira and we fell in love with the island, if we choose to return we would only stay at The Albatroz. Thank you for having us.
