Gold Accor member, I wished to use the hotel bar as a meeting point. I was informed sitting in a table to get a coffee and plug a computer (other tables do not have sockets) was charged at 11 Eur an hour / pax. With a group of 5 just willing to have a coffee and to spend max 1/2 hour ... addition would be very spicy. Not sure I understand this policy and especially when there is no pass through for frequent customers. I understand the need of making money but clearly this is counter productive. How to unsatisfying a good client...
The hotel is good... centrally located .. opposite to gare de lyon and grocery store Carrefour. the rooms are little old but decent. Good view of city from the room. Friendly staff. Quick check in and quick checkout
This is a late review- we were here March 2016. It was our last Europe stay after a three month EurailPass. The hotel is at the TGV/main train station- easy to get to on arrival. We arrived by regional train. Malls, shopping areas right there. Eateries everywhere. Trams at the doorstep- easy and quick into the city. A tram express directly to the airport. Hotel feels secure and safe- lift access. Clean, comfortable rooms- usual Novotel standard. One of the best hotel breakfasts we had in Europe over three months. Strong free wifi. Here for three nights and for us this hotel was an excellent choice.
We stayed there for two nights. The hotel is next to the train station and metro and tram stop. The breakfast was very good and tasty and free for our two kids (as always in novotel hotels). The room was a family room which was a typical novotel room. The reception was very friendly and helped us to print our boarding passes and called for a taxi to the airport. Completely recommendable!
Overall was good. Location is very convenient - close to tramways, big shopping mall and train station. The room is so-so but clean. It's a little better than a budget graded hotel. The bed sheets were quite coarse and we felt itchy the first night. We felt better after requesting a replacement of the bedsheets. The a/c didn't work well and glad it wasn't that hot...
Just step out from train station and walk inside hotel elevator, 2 guys speaking ?French and hugging my friend for on reason. Then my friend noted loss of his phone. Try to trace them but fail. Go back inside hotel but Very disappointed attitude from hotel staff. They tell us to go to police station ourself and report it. I guest crime happen inside hotel that the hotel had no responsibility to report???? Go to police station but no one speak English and sent us away again to another police station and hope that they have translator there!! If hotel staff help and call police to come to hotel, they can get our statement and look at CCTV from the elevator footage immediately. This hotel seem not s safe hotel to stay with lot of pickpocket at station and following u back to hotel which provide no security and no help.
I choose the hotel because it was next to the railway station and because I had stayed in many other Novotels before and was usually satisfied. The room was actually as expected, spacious, with a comfortable bed, a well-working bathroom, good internet connection and working area. And free Evian water, ok. My room was facing a busy street but the double windows kept most of the noise out and sleep quality was good. I had booked and prepaid my room well in advance to enjoy a favourable rate and was actually quite surprised to receive an email from the hotel which asked me to reconfirm my reservation, otherwise I had to pay an extra charge. Very strange. The check-in procedure also took more time than usual and during my stay I could observe there were queues waiting for check-in sometimes. My check-out was early morning, about 6:30 and there was no one at the reception desk and I had to wait for some time before someone showed up. The breakfast was ok, but the variety of bread and cakes was a bit limited and one day the coffee machine had no milk just after opening. I also think that if you open the breakfast buffet at 6:30, all ítems should be displayed by that time, but here the staff kept on bringing more things, that gave an impression that if you really wanted to enjoy the full buffet you should rather show up about 30 minutes after the opening. As a member of their loyalty program I am usually entitled to enjoy a free welcome drink at the bar, and until now that included always a drink for my companion. If you go strictly by the rules it is just one drink and just for one person, but here it has been the first time that this rule has been applied, which I found a bit annoying. Regarding the surroundings of the hotel, there is a big shopping mall with a Carrefour supermarket and several restaurants nearby, but in general the área is not very attractive, there are many homeless people, beggars and drunken so for an evening walk you better take the tram or subway and move to the Bellecour área of the city. I don't think I would come back here.
I booked this hotel due to the proximity to the train station Part-Dieu and to the mall. The personal was very educated and nice but the room assigned was not very nice because it was face to the train tracks so even having double window, in certain time,I could listen the trains passing away. The bed was confortable and the room was spaced. The bathroom was very ugly and old, not recommendable for a 4* Hotel.
* pros - excellent location: 2-3 minutes walk from Gare de Lyon part-dieu. - very quiet room - super comfortable bed and pillow. - wifi works well - complimentary water: what?? Evian water?? for free? - very friendly helpful staff: especially the one at the breakfast buffet * cons - Breakfast was good. But it would be better with more spread.
I usually like Novotels, especially those from the latest generation but this one was very average. Room was small, noisy, dark and old. Breakfast was good. Location right next to the train station was best, at least very convenient.
