Grand Hotel Cravat4.0 out of 5.0

Lovely hotel in the heart of Luxembourg. The interior spaces (lobby, bar, reception, breakfast room) are all really well maintained as are the bedrooms. The outside could do with a little spruce up as it detracts from the excellent interior.
We stayed at the Grand hotel Cravat in November 2017, it was perfect for what we needed and a brilliant location. A very spacious room overlooking the Christmas market. The breakfast was good and the staff very helpful.
I appreciate much that the hotel staff speaks English, German and French. The hotel is situated in the city centre. However it is easy to reach the hotel by public transport. There is a very pleasant lobby bar with fireplace.
This hotel needs quite a bit of modernisation - the doors were 'old fashioned' keys (haven't seen those in a four star hotel for years), the bathroom suite was a seventies throwback, as we're many of the other fittings. But that said, the service was polite, the room was clean and the breakfast quite acceptable. Not sure I'd go back at the price, but the place did have an antiquated charm.
Right in the city centre, with good transport links & taxi right outside, good continental breakfast, lifts on ground floor, beautiful old classic internal décor, very professional helpful friendly staff, large beautiful comfortable quiet rooms, with large ensuite bathrooms (bathrooms are slightly old but very clean and functioning well), bedroom overlooking the city centre - cant ask for more!
My friend and I stayed here on a short stop over in Luxembourg back in August 2017. I was disappointed. I booked a twin room online (i.e. two beds instead of one double bed). When we arrived to check in they said they do not have a twin room available. Luckily I was with a friend so we didn't mind too much but from a customer services perspective it is unacceptable. The staff member was not helpful and bordered on sarcastic. We arrived albeit in a heatwave which is unusual for Luxembourg, but not to have air conditioning in 2017 is unacceptable - every 4* hotel I have been to here in the UK has air conditioning and our climate is similar if not colder to yours. Breakfast was good although should have been more vegetarian options for my mate. The location is very good! I would advise those travelling as a pair who are not in a relationship to ring up and check that they are getting a twin room rather than a double. It could have been embarrassing if I was with a colleague! I would also advise not staying here from June - August until the air conditioning is sorted.
Let's start with the UPs: The view from the windows was great! Good area where to walk around. The staff were helpful and spoke English well. Now the DOWNs: It claims to be a vintage resort, while it is plain old and in need of refurbishment. The fact there was not even a fan in the room while the temperature was very high made the staying pretty tough, but what stroke us the most was how tired and beaten up the furniture and everything else in the room was (phone, hairdryer, etc.). I'd seen tinier bathrooms only on cruise ships, even the toilet had been turned sideways not to hit the sink. The bed was very small for two people and with a very uncomfortable gap in the middle. On the ouside the building looked old with broken lights, cracked walls, faded drapes... On top of it all the owner was plain rude. At our low feedback he replied that we shouldn't complain because we paid "a rockbottom price". Mr. Cravat, if you have rooms that are not worth the "Grand Hotel" name then don't sell them! We pay what you ask, like any other client, and like any other client we like good deals. You can't treat your customers with arrogance just because they paid less than your average guest and then expect them to keep it quiet! As a well experienced traveler I've never felt so offended!
We loved the cocktails and the atmosphere of the lobby bar! The fireplace was perfect on a rainy night in Lux. The room was a bit worn but clean and quiet. Extra points for very clean and nice bathroom!
The hotel must have been grand at his peak, but is a bit outdated now. Still classy, very nice staff. The room had some old and damaged furniture that needs urgent replacing. Breakfast was good. The location is excellent!
We chose to stay at the Grand Hotel Cravat because of its central position betreen the railway station and the opera house. The breakfast was rather more than we usually pay but was of excellet quality.
