This is suitable for a one night stay by travelers arriving from Heathrow. It's pretty close to major sights and offers a very good "full English breakfast." Otherwise, utterly without charm, and the staff is surly and unhelpful in the extreme.
We were told we had been given a "nice room" when we checked in. Unfortunately, it was the opposite. No air con, the thinnest single bed ever, and a shower which was either freezing or boiling hot. I asked if they had any fans, to be told "it won't be as hot tonight". Wrong. It was unbearably hot. We hardly slept the two nights we stayed there. Also, there was no electricity from the sockets on the first night. Funnily enough, when I complained (for the second time) the electricity came back on immediately. On a positive note, the hotel is in a decent location (for Hyde Park, Paddington) and is fairly cheap. The girls serving breakfast (2 bits of bacon, beans and 2 fried eggs, toast, tea & OJ) were helpful and happy to give us more toast and orange juice. If the above things don't bother you and you're looking for a cheap hotel in a fairly central location then this hotel may be for you.
The pros of this hotel were that check in was fuss-free (I gave my name and was handed a key), the bed was relatively comfy, and the location convenient. The fan in the room was appreciated as it was a particularly warm evening. Outside noise didn't really get into my top floor room. I was provided with a towel (small) and there were a couple of complimentary bars of soap. My room was at the very top. Climbing several flights of stairs is fine for me, but for some this might not be so easy, and the lack of a lift does not appear to be made well-known on the hotel's website. The cons outnumber the pros, I'm afraid. The room was basic. The underside of the toilet seat had not been properly cleaned, and the pressure on the shower was very weak. There was a kettle in the room, but curiously no mugs, or tea/coffee/sugar/milk. There was a phone by the bed, but no number for reception indicated. If there was wifi, no password was provided. There were light sockets without bulbs which added to the tacky look. Breakfast was a non-starter. There was no vegetarian cooked option, so I was provided oil soaked fried eggs, and anaemic backed beans. No cereals or fruit were on offer. This hotel could qualify as generically cheap and cheerful, but it was neither. For the price I paid - even in central(ish) London - I expect a bit more and came away disappointed.
Too small room with no wardrobe. We didn't have a rug in the toilet. Just a small towel for each of us. The breakfast was the same for every single day: eggs with bacon and beans or cereals. Stuff was kind.
Out of every hotel I've ever stayed in, this is at the bottom by a country mile. I don't even know where to start. We stayed in a 3 person bedroom at the front of the hotel which is along a very busy road with a hospital at the end of the street. Because none of the windows had double glazing there was constant noise and sirens from the street all through the night. We had 3 tiny (and I mean tiny) beds and the "blankets" were more like throws you put on a sofa. One of the pillows was covered in stains. In our 3 person room, we were given 2 mugs and no tea/coffee making facilities or basically any facilites except for a tiny bar of soap. The main room was filthy and looked like it hadn't been properly cleaned or painted in decades. The radiator was caked in dust and behind and under the beds was disgusting. We had 1 curtain as opposed to 2 that didn't cover the whole window - the rings were there for the second but obviously wasn't replaced. 2 of the beds were at either end of the window which meant that as soon as the sun came up, the whole room was too bright. The heat in our room was also ridiculous with no form of air conditioning, so that if the shower was used the whole room became unbearably hot even with the windows open and it wasn't particularly warm during our stay. Onto the bathroom - we were provided with 1 tiny towel each. The shower had basically no pressure and the water was either too hot or too cold. The toilet bowl was leaking and the staffs resolution to this was to put one of our old towels there and it was left there for the whole duration of our stay!! This resulted in an awful smell from the bathroom. The rooms were "cleaned" daily but this was just a case of pulling the "quilts" up on the bed and changing the towels. the bin was changed daily but instead of putting a bin bag in the bin, one of our plastic bags was used as a bin bag! The front door was usually locked and you could be waiting anything up to 10 minutes for someone to answer. The "full English breakfast" that was included in the price consisted of 2 eggs, 1 slice of bacon and a bowl of beans. Breakfast was also only from 7 - 9 am and not a second after. There was no wi-fi in the rooms only in the main lobby, it's 2017, this should be a given nowadays. Checkout time on departure was 10am which, in my opinion, is way too early. Most of the staff there were rude, ignorant and uninterested. On our departure day when we came back to collect our bags, we thought we had misplaced a passport and asked the staff member there was anything found in our room. Without even looking up from his mobile, he grunted no and continued what he was doing. How this place is considered a hotel is completly beyond me. As a restaurant manager myself, I have no idea how they are getting away with it. The whole place needs a complete revamp, staff need training on common manners and how to run a hotel to an even slightly acceptable standard. Luckily for us we didnt actually spend much time there except to sleep for our four night stay. I know better in future to trust other peoples reviews, I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy!!
Visited this hotel for my daughters surprise 21st birthday trip to London, found the hotel to be clean, we were put in room 2 which is opposite the dining room so were woke up each morning with the staff preparing for breakfast. Breakfast was simple 2 eggs 1 bacon and spoonful of beans, toast, tea or coffee which was hot and filled us up, I had phoned before arrival to ask if vegetarians were catered for and was informed there was cereal available but never to offered any. No kettle in room which would have been nice or hairdryer but having read reviews before our visit we did pack one 4 ladies without an hairdryer!!!! No brainer. 3 of the beds (singles) were comfy one very hard no duvets sheets and throws 1st night the room was too hot but 2nd night the central heating had been turned off so was more comfortable. Bathroom clean, again having read previous reviews we took our own shampoo etc as only 2 small bars of soap available. Cheap & cheerful. Staff friendly. We only wanted somewhere to lay our heads after sight seeing so this hotel fitted the bill, if you are looking for luxury then look elsewhere.
Great location, very helpful and friendly staff. Sadly, I was let down by non full English Breakfast as per my photo, mushrooms, sausages and tomatoes were not part of English Breakfast. The room needs a serious TLC, ie a toilet that can flush properly, double glazed window that can be fully closed and opened, a bath matt, shower shelf that it is not rusty and more importantly a secure and safe lock on a door. For, this reason I feel the price per night it is to high, despite the fact the hotel is located in London.
This hotel is an all in all a great value for money, I have stayed with my girlfriend for 4 nights and 5 days last week and we were very satisfied. Keep in mind this is a 3 star hotel so forget pampering and luxury, this is a good 3 star hotel with a fresh, basic and complimentary breakfast (2 eggs, baked beans, bacon, all the toast you want, a glass of orange juice and tea or coffee). Rooms are a bit small and outdated but clean, heating works very good and hot water is always present in the bathroom. TV has a good amount of channels in it as well, towels are changed everyday, although rooms are not turned down everyday. WiFi signal in rooms is poor or non-existent but a very good connection is present in the hotel lounge. Rooms are a bit noisy but it is mainly due to wood windows (a general British infrastructural problem) Location is excellent, few steps away from Tesco, shops, restaurants and Paddington station! All in all very satisfied for the price we have paid! Location
Been to this hotel many times same Eastern european person serving English breakfast. Almost throws the food at you now, in a hurry for you to leave so she can clean up. If you arrive before 9am you get breakfast. 30sec after nope. Rooms do not have shampoo or kettle just one small soap between everyone and not replaced daily. At least its close to paddington
