The Dukes Retreat

3.5 out of 5.0

For a family of 6 (including 3 children), Duke's Retreat offered almost everything we could hope for...clean rooms, a sandy park for the kids to play in, a fish tank (to keep the kids occupied), a swimming pool, decent views of the surrounding mountains and outstanding food. Given that our days in Lonavla were mostly spent indoors (thanks to the vagaries of traveling with 3 children under 5) we could not have hoped for a better place to hang out. Having said that, our stay wasn't without a couple of irritants 1. The key card to one of our rooms unexpectedly stopped working. This, by itself would not have been a concern but the fact that this happened thrice was irritating. It also happened to be night when this happened and I would have expected management to be more prompt in replacing the key card with a functioning one. Though eventually we got a working card, it only happened after some yelling over the phone 2. On floor 1 (this hotel is built such that you enter on the 4th floor and your rooms are in floors 1, 2 and 3), there is a sloping surface (which you have to pass to get to the elevator from your rooms) that is very slippery. We had to pick our way carefully around this slope lest we fell down and injured ourselves. The hotel management needs to either change this landing to a series of steps or post a notice warning people of this potential pitfall. This hotel comes with complimentary breakfast. Please ensure you have a light dinner the night before as the spread is delicious. I was also impressed at the chef's ability to make equally tasty continental and Indian dishes.

Best thing about this property is its location that offers breathtaking view of lush green mountains and mighty water falls. We stayed in the hotel in last week of June,2017 and the day we checked in it had been raining for last twenty four hours. we came all the way from Mumabi to loanavala and the moment we checked in to the room we got a spectacular view of valley and water fall that was truly spell bound. We enjoyed the mesmerizing view for hours by sitting in the balcony of room. Other wise considering the amenities and food the hotel is an average. It is en cashing heavy amount for its location and badly needs improvement in all department. Staff is courteous and polite. When we reached in the hotel it was over crowded and was looking like railway plate form due to summer vacations.

The Dukes Retreat was our first Christmas holiday in India. What a Gem. From arrival to departure, everything was seamless. The staff (without exception) were friendly, efficient and very well organised. The room huge, with extremely comfortable beds and super bathroom facilities. The hotel was spotless. Reception is on the 4th floor and all the rooms below, giving great views The buffet at breakfast super, they even serve good strong freshly brewed coffee.(only sign of Nescafe was in the room) A mix of veg/non veg and live cooking stations. Christmas Lunch was a mix of western and Indian and delicious. The desserts out of this world. My wife commented that it was like home cooking.(neither of us are Indian) Dinner was veg/non veg, but again excellent. The surroundings and views are super. We were told that one of the best times to visit is during monsoon, were the waterfalls are in full flow and the hotel sits above the clouds looking down on natures spectacle. If you are looking for a quiet retreat away from everything, look no further. Very nice swimming pool, although we didn't use it(December! Mental block) Well stocked bar. A big thankyou to Mr Rakesh Guleria (GM) and all his staff for making this a most memorable stay. No doubt about a return

Was part of a larger group for a wedding. Location is bliss. Reception is on 4th floor and the rooms are on the lower 3 floors. The 1st floor although lower priced are better (they have a balcony). The resort was very good with extremely helpful staff. Although you have the expressway adjoining the resort the soundproofing is effective.Very well arranged mantap and reception. Breakfast was great, lunch and dinner were good. Here is the only sore points I felt - apart from the 2 bath-towels, there was only one smaller towel as toiletry; 2 are needed one as a floor mat outside the shower area and the other as a hand towel.

We have stayed at a lot of places in India but when the hotel room door opened and we looked out the window we were both speechless. We had just travelled almost 5 hrs from Mumbai to get there (truck turnover on the road) and were not expecting that much. This is a very classy looking resort (pool, dining area, small library, well manicured lawns) but nothing prepares you for the great view over mountains and waterfall. We also had 2 king single beds that looked like a massive bed in the room. There are 2 eating areas and the outside one (level 4) is the best. The level 3 (breakfast and a la carte dinner) is rather cold and less friendly. The hotel caters for conferences, tours etc so is set up to handle quite a few people. There weren't that many when we were there. Staff at the desk were very helpful and helped our driver find where he needed to go. If you are in the Lonavala region I would definitely recommend a hill facing room at the Dukes Retreat.

It is a best place to go for a weekend as well as for any holiday. Food is awesome. Wide range of variety for Vegetarians as well as Non vegetarians. Very nice location as well nice service. Very co-operative staff

The property has a relaxed, informal appeal and is quite child friendly. We had essentially planned a 2 day visit to Imagica with the kids a few weeks back and stayed at Dukes which was close enough. We spent three nights at this place and while the amenities, food and service are average and could be better, we were quite overwhelmed by the lovely surroundings and views of the valley which overshadow the minor shortcomings. To sum it up, a nice trip at a memorable location.

It was an amazing experience staying at The Dukes Retreat as always. The staff is very warm and hospitable while the view from the room is to die for. The rooms offer a wonderful view of the serene Valley of Lonavala Khandala. Special mention for Mr. Vikas from Front office who ensured that our stay was a memorable one.

Dukes retreat....supposed to b a good hotel, but sumwhere it lacks. The restaurant staff is horrible. The service is poor. But other staff is humble and polite. They have a good neat clean big rooms. Nice swinnimg pool. They also have activities for kids. And nice indoor game activities like carom, table tennis, chess, snooker and few video games. As the property is based on higher altitude, u get a good view of d valley with full breeze. A complete hill destination.

The place is just a five minute walk off the pune-mumbai expressway. The rooms offer stunning views of the mountains, and some spectacular waterfalls. Place is very well maintained and staff extremely helpful and courteous. Stayed here for a whole week and yet didn't get tired of the food. There was a lot of choice in each buffet. They often had very good live music in the evenings with dinner. Not much place around the resort for long walks. Ideal for conferences or site seeing around lonavla.
