Admittedly, we were a bit surprised about reading the very diverse ratings but the offer just sounded too good. After staying for 4 nights we are even more surprised about other ratings, but apparently the hotel is perfect for some but not for others. For us it was perfect and here is why: Main criterion for us is "did we sleep well" and the answer is not only yes, it is yes, better than in most hotels we stayed so far. The bed is large, comfortable as are pillows and blankets, and despite being a waterfront hotel with busy roads around it, it was sooooo amazingly quiet (see below). Room is spacious and large bathroom, plenty of space for clothes and suitcases. All staff extraordinarily friendly - at reception, breakfast, cleaning staff, pool, bar,... and we have seen them very professional on several occasions with unacceptably annoying guests. Indeed, the towels at the pool cost extra - thankfully they do otherwise this gorgeous rooftop pool and terrace would be overcrowded with short time guests coming and leaving. Good idea to keep this a special place this way. Indeed, Internet and 4G hardly work in the rooms - the massive walls shield the RF signals we presume, but - well - so they shield the noise from waterfront, roads and neighbours. So again, this is great. Indeed, not everything is super modern - but this means also not sterile but a great authentic place. And the price was unbeatable- best value for money. If we return to Livorno or Pisa, this is our place!!!
never thought that i could find such perfect hotel like Grand hotel palazzo, i enjoyed my stay there, all particolare at the hotel after renovation excellent, very cleaned and friendly multilanguage staff. deserve to visit and stay sure there, everytime i will be back to Livorno i will be at my second home. thanks for the management for real hotelier services.
We stayed here for 3 nights in a sea view junior suite. Our room was beautiful, spacious and with an amazon view watching the sun set over the sea. THERE ARE NO IRONS IN THE HOTEL!! And be careful with the laundry service as they rip you off. There is a decent hairdryer in the bathroom. Lovely big shower and bath with separate toilet room. Great air con. TV with just one English speaking channel, CNN! The restaurant upstairs was not bad, we had a lovely meal there one night sitting outside with an amazing view over the sea. Staff are hit and miss, one waitress was so lovely, the other did not want to be there. The food arrived quickly and was very tasty. Reception speak poor English but were helpful enough. Breakfast is great! Lots of choice. We wouldn't rush back here considering the price. In fact Livorno was a bit of a dump. The beach club over the road from the hotel was good fun though. And there is a great all-you-can-eat pizza place up the road, pizza go go I think it was called.
If you admire elegance of good old times this is your hotel. It was almost a travel to past. Hotel is beautiful and the rooms very nice and cosy. Breakfast is amazing. We also appreciated the free parking - allthough in the evening time it can be full. Especially if there are some occations (weddings, business meetings etc.). Take a look from the backyard as there are plenty of parking space as well. Livorno is very close to Pisa and Florence. You can easily reach them by car or by train. We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. It is classy and stylish. The service was good, especially in the restaurant areas. Perhaps the reception could be a bit more efficient.
This looks as though it should be great but in fact it is far from the 5 star hotel it advertises itself as. The staff were helpful and smiling but let down by the facilities. The hotel is miles from the town and looks as though it is on a beach but is NOT it is next to the industrial port. The rooms are spacious we had a first floor room looking over the rear garden which was very quiet (seafront views are over a busy and very noisy road). Internet was infuriating to log on to and you have to pay for it too. Our bathroom looked fine until you opened the shower door.. no shower tray and it stank..No point complaining as all the rooms were full but it really is not good enough. This is the worst of the Sofitel McGallery chain we have stayed in - they are usually good - Note to management: you need to get your act together. I could not recommend this hotel sadly.
Very clean and accomodating ~ close to beach and sea. Staff was helpful. We did not eat there, but had espresso and beverages on the rooftop. Staff arranges taxis for us--Livorno train station does NOT have taxis waiting around---you must call and make appointments for ALL taxis in Livorno--just an FYI to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We asked to park our car to have dinner in their restaurant. Being in travel I explained that our car was full of luggage and if we might park our car while being at dinner in their hotel restaurant. I was told no - this is only for guests staying overnight. I tried to explain again - and same answer. A very impolite service and to me coming from the luxury hotel industry - a no go. Still we decided to stay there, found a parking and went upstairs to their roof top terrace. We did not want to distroy our first day of holidays by one persons mood. But the bad service continued in their restaurant. From seating where we had to place our table by ourself, to welcoming ... So if you want to enjoy a nice view with a kind of self service level - the Sofitel seems a place to be
On arrival the hotel is grand, lovely foyer and staff... It's only when you stay here you realise that beneath the surface all is not what you think. The room : as has been reported here before, although there is tea and coffee making materials, there's only powdered milk and rediculously small cups... We tried tea, it didn't really work The bathroom.. Like the hotel, lovely and look closely... It was dark, had brown marble counters and brown marble sink and brown marble shower tray... So were they clean? Who knows couldn't see! And you couldn't open the shower door properly as it hit the toilet (see photo) The room has "carpet" which is more akin to hessian sackcloth so not that comfortable to walk on... And had been replaced in sections... It also had a water stain (see photos) and one of the door seals was dangling. We arrived mid afternoon when the restaurant was closed but there were snacks available in the bar. The "American bar" consists of 2 tables and 8 chairs, there is also outdoor deck seating and of course the restaurant. We advised that we wanted a drink and a snack, and were told we could either sit outside (as pasty white English who had just arrived it was too hot) or the dark bar area... Sitting at one of the dining tables, to eat, wasn't allowed as they'd been laid for dinner. We ordered a cheese and ham panini - what we got was a sunblest style roll with one slice of ham and one slice of cheese... No garnish,... It was nice for what it was, but it wasn't a panini and it wasn't 5 star! When it came to pay I had to sign a pice of paper that just had what we'd ordered, with no idea what the cost would be... This was the same when I went for a latte the following day (didn't get a latte however) When our room was serviced on day1 they left the dirty cups in the room (and a dirty sponge), so we put them outside the door - hotel policy throughout the world... They were still there when we got back from a day of sightseeing the next day. Breakfast - again not 5 star, and more of a European style bread-cakes-near-fruit breakfast than anything you'd expect in a British or American establishment. What annoyed me here was the blatant racism... An Italian asks for tea, and they are brought a pot of tea... We asked for one, and are directed to a "tea station".. Where you poor the tea yourself.. Water goes into a pot which has no lid (unless it's run out in which case the staff don't top the water device up) and as long as there are cups left you are good to go.. Unless you wanted a jug of milk... As there were no jugs. The rest of breakfast is self service, unless you are Italian and then it's served to your table. none of the cold drinks (water or juice) were actually cold (room temperature). Oh and there are two vehicle entrances.. One is open all the time, the other was closed more often than not - and if you are driving an unfamiliar car on unfamiliar roads on the "other side of the road" the last thing you want to find is a locked gate and having to reverse onto a very busy road As others have said, no local information, or hotel guide in the room. Wifi very poor, dropping mid use and suddenly being told you'd exceeded the number of devices connected... Mid Google search! On check out, no "how was everything?" "Do you need any help?"..... There are some boxes on the reception desk with cakes in... Reserved for the Italians no doubt! This isn't a cheap hotel, you are paying "intercontinental" price for something That's more akin to Ibis or holiday inn express quality.... On a bad day!
We got a nice welcome at the reception and was upgraded to the suite. Then we decided to cancel our dinner reservation and instead eat at the hotel- BIG mistake!! The waiter was very professional but the food was not worth the visit. The breakfast buffet was same category. I am the owner of a food service management, if I had an executive Chef like at this, that person would be replaced ASAP!!
I travel to Sofitel hotels on business on a regular basis and chose this hotel as part of the Sofitel brand expecting a similar experience. My wife and I were very disappointed. The swimming pool did not open before 10.15 and was closed at 7pm. There was no shade at all by the pool. Towels were charged as extra. Using the sauna was charged as extra. The one restaurant had a very restricted menu. There was no concierge to offer advice. There was no safe in the room. This was a poor experience and over-priced as it did not not offer the facilities of a 5 star hotel. The room was large and comfortable. As a platinum member of the Accor hotels I should have been offered an upgrade but this didn't happen.
