We had a wonderful stay at this hotel at the end of a trip to Portugal. We selected this hotel because it is a Relais and Chateaux and because it is well located to the airport so you can enjoy the best of the beach and still have an easy drive before your flight home. The hotel itself is ideally placed outside of a small beach town so it is very quiet. Across the road is a nature reserve with a boardwalk. The room we were given (an upgrade for sure) was a magnificent suite with a private balcony that directly faced the sea. Utterly breathtaking views with huge waves pounding against the cliffs. The room was traditional in design and well appointed. We also dined at the Michelin starred restaurant and really enjoyed the creative cuisine. The emphasis is on local products so expect some magnificent fish dishes with a sauce of squid ink, beef with two sauces and impressive desserts. One thing we appreciated was the sommelier suggesting wines that were unfamiliar to us but perfectly matched the dishes. I can highly recommend this hotel on many grounds from the splendid location, the peace and quiet, exceptional food and helpful staff.
Doesn’t look like much from the outside not when you 1st look at the Fortaleza however. Sitting quietly and discreetly amongst the confusion of local restaurants, atlantic beaches, hot summer months, this well placed bathed in yellow small gem with a Michelin star will definitely be revealed to you romantics. Don’t expect masses of luxury but expect a lot from the way you will be treated by the staff, the outside and inside views, the afternoon English black tea and scones with a plate of biscuits, the restaurant and no doubt you will get it all and a little more. View to the Atlantic infinite. The colours of the water, the waves, the sun especially at Sun Set and your Heart will be justified to whisper it’s time again. Time again to ‘feel’ everything. Enjoy !
Outside the city wuth an awesome view. Quiet an impression when entering but not really what you expect from a relais et chateau. Seiling of the rooms are great and the bathrooms have azulejos. Breakfast is great
Wonderful location just by the sea, very nice rooms, a wonderful restaurant... I wish we could have stayed longer... Everybody was nice and friendly. Breakfast was very good. Some guests were a bit noisy but that was not the Hotels' fault!
We spent a beautiful overnight here. The view of the beach from the room is absolutely spectacular. The room is comfortable and elegant, though the bathroom could use a little sprucing up for a Relais e Chateaux. My only complaint is the lack of a pool. Yes, there is a fantastically beautiful beach right there, but the water is extremely cold and it is very windy. So a pool would have been nice...
The location is amazing and you can't really go wrong. The views are incredible, you can hear crashing waves all day long. The restaurant is fantastic. The nearby beaches are amazing. The rest of the hospitality/service though was lacking considerably. Specifically, our drink orders were often forgotten (twice in two days), and I waited 45 minutes for a single bottle of wine while sitting in the bar, despite reminding bar staff twice. The Check-In was also awkward and rushed. I'm not saying don't visit, it's worth going, but it was surprisingly lacking in good service.
Stayed at Fortaleza do guincho it's such a lovely hotel and inmost stunning location with views of the Atlantic we had a superior double room which was large it also had a enclosed balcony with a sea view the staff at the hotel were amazing the service was top notch and all of them were friendly making us feel relaxed I would recommend this as great place to spend a few days thanks for showing us such a great time
Relais & Chateaux is a guarantee by the name. This is a particularly interesting location. Totally isolated on a cliff between two wonderful ocean beaches, the hotel is housed in a XVII coast fort and has all the charme that it needs. Add reasonable pricing, fabulous service, fantastic breakfast in the reastaurant with amazing views. What more is there to want? Michelin star chef for dinners. Not our thing so we went nearby for a more traditional and equally exciting dinner with a view.
A beautiful and elegant hotel built from a old fort overlooking the Atlantic, Fortaleza is a special hotel. Great service, top-rate restaurant, and unbelievable location make for an unforgettable experience. We stayed in one of the junior suites and the room was spacious and beautifully appointed. The hotel itself is beautiful, with an open courtyard that can be covered if necessary. Make sure to have dinner at the restaurant. The food is creative while maintaining tradition and absolutely delicious. The wait service is very attentive but not intrusive. We watched the sun set from our window-facing table while enjoying our pre-fixe meals. By the way, the beaches, both north and south of the hotel, are excellent.
Beautiful hotel and perfect location. The service here is outstanding and the hotel is very, very nice. We only had one night and had not reserved for dining in the restaurant prior to arriving. However, they fit us in for 9:30. Boy were we in for an experience. Since we were too late for the predetermined full course menu we ordered a la carte. But between each course, they served us some amazing and very different appetizers - eel empanadas, barnacle appetizer, fish dip and tartare, and more. It is a very expensive restaurant so be prepared for that...quite an extraordinary experience.
