The Pier Hotel

3.0 out of 5.0

The Pier is in the city central, has (limited) covered parking + a deal for free parking locally from 18:30 to 08:00. The rates are good and can be cheaper on Booking.com that over the phone! It's clean if basic. Beds can be a little lumpy sometimes.

I don't leave reviews and usually take them with a grain of salt, but this place is different. DO NOT STAY HERE. Period. You will not get a room that looks like the pictures, the room will be FILTHY and you will want to leave and ask for a full refund (which we did request and receive). Our room was absolutely disgusting. The carpet was gross and falling apart, the tub looked like something out of a horror movie scene and we LOL'd at the fact that the carpet was installed and cut AROUND THE FURNITURE. Like there is no carpet under the bed or the desk or anything. The bed was uncomfortable and was outfitted with a cheap fleece throw blanket that was DISGUSTING. There was no parking available for us and this stuff isn't even the worst part.... The hotel has FAKE reviews on their website. See Jack the painter's review for example. The picture is not of a man named Jack, it is a picture of former Illinois Governor, Bruce Rauner. Google him, they just took his pic and used it to write a fake review. This is distasteful, misleading marketing and some consequences should be given to the hotel.

Definitely would not recommend. A group of us were staying for one night and they put half of us in the wrong rooms. The car park is very tight and difficult to get into. No one seemed to be a proper receptionist, we talked to four different people. We were put in the wrong room and then our bags got locked in the room. The rooms don’t look like the pictures on the website and they smell of smoke. The beds aren’t comfy and the rooms are very small. Almost left and booked into somewhere else. The staff were rude and unhelpful.

A very basic property! Very good location c/w poor breakfast. Front staff not very welcoming. Upon arrival, our rooms were not ready and when we were assigned rooms(small), they were not made up! The toilet seat in the bathroom was broken and some of the shower stall grout was mildewed, along with faulty lighting. Underground parking is minimal and like a maze. Overnight was a disaster with the bar very loud (woman screaming)well into the night, then spilling out onto the sidewalks and up the corridors unchecked! While there, one stairwell was blocked with mattresses(?). Verdict ; a near disaster! Would never stay again, nor recommend this property.

3 years ago I was in the hotel and it was a disaster. The more I was surprised now, because it is all newly renovated, both room and bathroom and the bed was pleasant. Also in the breakfast room viles has been changed, the staff is now friendly and helpful. You can recommend it again.

This hotel is a very basic hotel. Good points are location, decent breakfast. But that is where the good ends! Rooms are small but clean, bathroom plumbing marginal- toilet takes 10-15 mins between flushes! Two mornings in a row there was no hot water for an early shower. It seemed like hot water only came on after 7:00am, or maybe my complaints initiated them to turn on the heater! Checkin was a debacle, 3 couples and they couldn’t sort out rooms. Car parking was ok, but each morning we were parked in by other cars and had to wait half hour for them to find the driver of cars to move. May have been better to pay the €7.50 at the adjacent public carpark.

First off they don't have free parking the subsidise local car park. So add that onto your price. The staff are nice, the place is small and old. It's clean but that's the only positive. If your just looking for somewhere to put the head it's fine, if you want anything more I wouldn't recommend

Stayed one night at The Pier Hotel which is nicely situated right in the middle of the town centre. Only problem with that is the traffic noise. I initially allocated room 337. This room was small and too noisy so l asked Caoimhe the young receptionist for a quieter room. She then moved me to what l would describe as a box room where the taps were so old the chrome had peeled off. Still significant extraneous noise to be had from the plumbing and lift engine noise. Would l stay here again?? No there are better pkaces to stay A good B&B would be a better choice.

The good... Good location, parking garage. The bad... Bed was horrible, room small and walls are pretty thin. You get what you pay for. We only overnighted and were not in town long. If I had to do over - I would spend a few more bucks for a bit more posh hotel.

After thinking the room was great, time to sleep discovered a must be 30 year old mattress that is well past it’s use by date and two pillows made of cement, then try closing the curtains to find the sheer curtain on the same rail as the block out, use hair clips to close curtains. Breakfast, an overrun staff member a chef who has tome on his hands and a full room of bus travellers = obe big mess of mistakes - wouldn’t recommend to anyone
