We were disappointed and regretted choosing this property for our stay in Lille. The room felt so used by the thousands of guests who have stayed there over decades that we didn't dare touching anything; I didn't dare seat on the sofa in the room either. It smelled of dusty carpet and stagnant water. The carpet was so old that it was discoloured. It was hard to tell whether everything was dirty or dusty or just having lost its freshness a long time ago. Hallways have the same uninviting quality. That is not ok for a hotel advertized and sold as it is. We are not rating our stay based on our expectations (we didn't have any), but based on what this hotel is promising. Apparently it is a 4-star hotel, the pictures on the website make it look like great and it is priced accordingly. It is 2018 and there are many accommodation options, including outside of the hotel industry. We nonetheless chose this property. The pictures look nice and the rating is high. I guess the areas of the hotel that look good on picture are some common areas that we didn't use (the restaurant maybe?). I see many reviews from guests that echo my feeling, but somehow it does not translate on the rating, which mislead me into thinking that a large majority of guests had a great experience there. Many reviews are in fact unenthusiastic at best. This hotel badly reflects on the Novotel and Accor brands: there was a flyer in the room advertizing other properties of the group and I thought that they looked nice, but immediately told myself that they looked good on paper, but are probably as disappointing as this one. I know what you will reply to my review, so I can already add it here for you. It is useless; if you really care about your guests, please close and renovate this hotel or price it and advertize it in a way that is aligned with the reality of this place. "Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Novotel Lille Centre Grand Place. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. At Novotel, we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. Please rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem and prevent future occurrence. We stayed for 3 nights in March and were looking for a fairly good quality hotel well located hotel with the now fairly standard good beds, shower, and wifi, but that didn't suffer from street noise, which a lot do. Also we wanted nearby reasonably priced parking as we were visiting war graves one day. It fitted the bill and we were pleased with the choice. Room was quite large, with both bath and shower. Toilet was separate which other reviews say is standard. That would be good if it had a wash basin it, which it didn't. But otherwise all good. A nice touch was a minibar that is for your own milk for tea etc, and where each day a bottle of water was provided. And though we had not asked we had a good view of the tower by the Grand Place (the room was on the 5th floor) We had breakfast, which was fairly standard - ok but could have been better. There wasn't the variety that some similar hotels have. Eg bananas always seem to have run out when we got there. It was busy at the weekend and staff were quite overwhelmed, with not enough clean cups and plates to go round, with many tables uncleared and messy. Could be improved. The parking was OK for us, but you need to be prepared otherwise it could be rather stressful (it would be good to get instructions as to what to do in advance). When we arrived at the hotel we parked opposite in front of someone's garage, while my wife popped into the hotel and was given instructions as to how to get to the car park. It would be good to have these sent in advance (though we had researched online with other reviews the layout is hard to work out). The best parking is in the public Nouveau Siècle underground car park which is not as easy to use as a UK car park, but ok for us as we deliberately hired a very small car. Quite cheap for 24 hours about 12 euros (oddly the hotel say you can pay via them but it is more expensive!). You pay prior to exit, which works well. But you need to know that the gates on entry are usually shut and to go closer and then they open. And that sometimes is says that it is full but there are still places so it is worth trying! Also though close to the hotel, the passage way at ground level under the hotel was annoyingly closed when we were there, so we had to go round the streets. Not that far if weather good, but would be a realy pain in rain. Coaches park right outside the hotel and the other spaces are often all taken. If you want to use a car a lot you might be better off slightly further from the centre (we only used the car to get from the Eurostar and back and to visit war graves one day - we would have booked for single day but bizarrely it was less than half the price to book for 3 days at the weekend rate). Staff were friendly and when I mentioned that I had emailed before about a complementary drink as I am an Accor member we got a voucher even though I booked via LastMinute.com (for a good deal with the Eurostar). They enrolled me again with another email. Small quibbles. There are only paper cups in the room for tea. We bought our own mugs. The air con only seemed to have heat not cooling at night, and the room was stuffy. We opened the window to see if that was better but it was then too cold being a cold March weekend. However, this seems often to be a problem in even 4* hotels. The shower gel was in a tube that was barely enough for 2.
I stayed here with a large (50) group visiting for the 100th anniversary of Vimy. The hotel staff are very efficient and friendly, organizing a dinner for our group on our penultimate night. The rooms are up to the Novotel standard and there are many great restaurants within walking distance. For a bus tour, the parking area for buses is usually occupied by an illegally parked car so our group had to schlep our bags about 200m from the corner. Not a tragedy but an irritant. The restaurant is quite good and the lobby bar is well appointed and welcoming. I would stay there again when visiting Lille, which is a beautiful city at the central core.
Visited with family over Christmas and stayed for 3 nights. The location of the hotel is excellent, very central and walking distance to sights, shops and restaurants. We had two rooms and they were both good size. Nice rooms, the only complaint is that the bathrooms had an unpleasant smell. We actually had to buy an air freshener spray to improve things. The hotel does not have its own parking. There is an underground car park behind the hotel but be warned, it can get extremely busy and it’s poorly managed. We spent 45 minutes getting in and out of it until we found a space. We would have expected the hotel to have negotiated a discount for its customers but that does not seem to be the case. The stated check-in time at the hotel was 3pm but none of the two rooms were ready at 3pm and we did not get them until an hour later. The breakfast was very good, lots of variety. When we tried to have dinner at the restaurant however, it was a disappointing experience. It turned out we could not order anything from the menu, we had to help ourselves to the dish of the day which was on the buffet. It seems like you could order different dishes for room service but not at the restaurant, how bizarre! Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel but felt the service could have been better.
Great location near the Grand Place, charming, helpful staff, thank you for the restaurant recommendations, both were excellent, a practical room, with a comfy bed, funny oiled pillows though, and importantly, a very good breakfast with good coffee! All in all, a very good base for a most enjoyable tourist weekend in Lille.
Stayed here with my wife for a short break just before Christmas. It's location is excellent, very close to the town centre, shops and the Christmas Market. We arrived on the Eurostar and walked to the hotel from Lille Europe station, no longer than 15-17 minutes. Check in was quick and easy. Room was nice and clean with a mini fridge, safe and offers room service. We did have breakfast served to our room one morning which was ok with the exception that the yoghurt was out of date! Ate in the restaurant one night which was ok too. I thought it was excellent but my wife's food was slightly under cooked. I would definitely still here again.
What a lovely hotel in the heart of Lille. Location is brilliant very close to everything including shops, restaurants and the train station. Rooms are clean and tidy with a lovely bar downstairs. Would recommend staying here for a short city break.
Located in the city centre. Rooms are old/aged and stains on the carpet. They need a deep cleaning. Breakfast isn't special and overpriced. You can better eat next door at a local place. When you put the sign don't disturb at the door. Forget it, they still enter your room while you are having a nap. They don't offer all the perks for Accor members. No room upgrades. Their slogan feel welcome, that doesn't count for the hotel.
Stayed for a night at this hotel. We were part of a group of 16 adults and the experience we had was very good. Location is excellent and just a 5 minute walk from the old city centre. Reception was well manned and very good front of house staff. The rooms are Very Well equipped and cannot be faulted. Excellent range of channels on the Tele too. The quality of the room was above average and perhaps the only area where a slight improvement wouldn't go amiss. Their breakfast selection was copious and delicious way to start the day. On the whole had a very good stay at this property and can highly recommend it.
We found it a perfect location for a cheap city break, ticked all the boxes for us! Hotel right in centre, clean rooms, comfy beds ,friendly staff what more can you ask for for the price! I would really recommend this hotel
