I thought I'd push the boat out on my Derbyshire to Mallorca motorbike road trip, so I booked to stay in the wonderful parador at Vic-Sau, leaving me with just an easy short hop to the ferry at Barcelona the following day. It was remarkably easy to find, despite being tucked away in the hills. The Spanish go to town on signage for these places. The room was huge, beautiful, extremely comfortable and well equipped. I had a great view of the reservoir and hills. Dinner (I went for half board, as there is nowhere else for miles) was very good and served in a lovely, if rather over-sized, dining-room. I like the philosophy of concentrating on local produce. Salchicha and cheeses followed by cod and crema catalans. I had a swim in the large and well-tended pool. The next day breakfast was equally splendid . I tried the walk along the footpath to the monastery but it was heavily overgrown and I turned back. I couldn't be bothered to schlep up the road as I wanted to go off site. This turned out to be a bonus as instead I followed a tip from a fellow traveller and took a single track concrete path round the reservoir to the outstanding hill village of Rupit. On my motorbike this was bliss. 23 km of absolutely deserted off-road track with stunning views.
Lovely peaceful location at the end of a winding road into the hills, approx. 10km from the town of Vic. The parador is a wonderful looking building overlooking the swimming pool and garden; beyond the pool the ground falls away down to the reservoir and across to magnificent views of the mountains. I agree with previous reviewer that welcome at reception desk was disappointing - a little enthusiasm and a few words of welcome would be enough. Our rooms on the first floor were modern, clean and spacious with a good balcony for that all-important view over the pool. Across from the reception area there was a very comfortable and peaceful lounge. Service at the bar was fine, perhaps unhurried would be kinder. And having missed lunch on arrival we had very good toasted sandwiches on the bar terrace to keep us going until dinner. Dinner was good if a little expensive for the portion sizes, but the spacious dining room lacked atmosphere despite at least a dozen tables of guests. The staff were all very professional in their attitude but we stayed for several nights and overall it was fine and relaxing but it would have been so much better for some service with a smile.
Absolutely stunning views of the reservoir. Beautiful building and large bedroom (double Superior). Fabulous room with great views. Great choice at breakfast. At the evening meal vegetarians were very poorly catered for on the menu. We had veggie paella which was quite ordinary and too salty. Getting a drink at the bar was difficult. I blame insufficient staff. The barman was busy serving wine in the restaurant The biggest disappointment was the internet speed it was dreadful and was so poor as to be unusable most of the time. Probably a factor of the remote location but I am sure they could solve it. I am sure it wouldn't worry many people. Despite a few negative comments about things that could be fixed. I would thoroughly recommend this Parador as one to be visited.
We arrived after a lovely two days in the luxurious and friendly Hostal Estrella in Rupit. We were obviously hot and tired after a long walk but there was no welcome just an immediate request for our passports. A sign indicating water and lemonade for guest sat on an empty table. No offer to show us to our rooms. The rooms are spacious, clean and modern and ours had spectacular views over the lake, though the view is sadly broken by the car park in front of the hotel. Service at the bar and restaurant was quite poor, our table was being cleared as we were eating. Having looked from our balcony at an inviting swimming pool, we were disappointed and amazed to find it is closed until June the first. The Parador offers a slightly too expensive, too corporate and unwelcoming experience. Yes it is in a lovely peaceful location but overall really quite disappointing.
I loved staying here. Beautiful and quiet. Lovely service. Very nice view from the balcony. Visited the town of Vic which was close by. Also, ate at Fussimanya, a nearby local restaurant - what a treat!
N/A. It takes me too much time, so be happy with what I am sending you. It simply annoys me to fill in all this space. I advice you not to bother your clients too much. I assure you if I get another questionaire like this one I will not reply.
We enjoyed this beautiful and tastefully appointed hotel as well as its natural surroundings with its various hiking and trail running opportunities, but also, we enjoyed the town of Vic, Girona, coastal towns/beaches and nearby restaurant, all within 15 minutes to an hour away.
Look I admit that everyone has different tastes and expectations but just having returned from my very first experience of staying in a Parador i must say it was extremely disappointing Now I have to say that the views are very spectacular and if you stay you have to pay extra for a room with that view Staff were pleasant although they did refuse to book us a table at the window when asked as they said it was a case of you have to eat now or take your chance The whole experience for me was disappointing the Parador for example has some issues that need correcting light bulbs missing wobbly shade on bedroom bedside table cold water tap came of on my hand Also their were lots of children in this Hotel if you are looking for a quiet dining experience forget it So that's it really bottom line overpriced I would just drive up and look at the view then move on as the price asked €155.00 Breakfast extra is simply not worth the money Disappointed in the whole experience
Worst Parador experience so far, deception. Located in one of only 3 rooms of all available that face a wall, not able to enjoy the main attraction of this Parador, its superb view on the Pantano de Sau lake. We just guess it is due to the booking through SmartBox, as many guests arrived after us and all were located into balcony featuring rooms with view on the lake. Certainly not a 130€ worth experience when looking at a wall through the tiny windows of the room..
Just 40 mins drive from Girona into a beautiful National Park, the Parador de Vic=Sau stands out in the midst of a canyon and beautiful greenery. We had booked this hotel many months ago as our daughter was spending Christmas with us in Catalonia so we wanted to have a nice Christmassy athmosphere. I could have cried when we checked in at the LACK of athmosphere, all that wasted space in the beautiful lobby and not a garland in sight, only a mock electric tree and a few other bits and pieces thrown around. What a wasted opportunity to create a lovely Christmas athmosphere, especially in the variious drawing rooms with empty fireplaces! The lighting in the dining room could do with some tweaking as it is very bright, we actually had to ask for a candle on our table...at Christmas?? Why was there not piped Christmas music playing discreetly in the background. Our bedrooms were very nice and roomy with stunning views over the reservoir, waking up in the morning and looking out over the fog sitting above the reservoir was magical! We have stayed in many Paradore's in Spain over the last 30 years and they are not known for their food so this one didn't surprise either, very mediocre and not consistent, although Christmas day lunch was very tasty. Having said all that we did enjoy our total 'chill out' for a few days, the staff were all very friendly and helpful at all times. If the Parado in this beautiful place want some help to create an athmosphere on special occasions....please get in touch with somebody who knows what they are doing!
