I have what I paid But I think it doesn't need to be a super expensive place to be clean and well maintained Bathroom 1 star The 5 stars only is for quite place and walkable to downtown

Disappointing and could do better

First the good stuff. Staff were friendly and helpful, including when we hit problems. No complaints about them. Bed linen and towels were spotless and well maintained. Also there was clearly some maintenance work going on in the hotel to possibly improve some rooms, so perhaps in the future the following negative aspects will be improved. So the negatives: firstly, it’s not their fault, but the hotel is located at a busy junction in the centre of town. The noise from not only the traffic, but also from the surrounding shops is relentless. It is very sad that a Hotel famous for and named for its balconies, it is too noisy and dirty for you to open the balcony doors and enjoy them. Earplugs are essential. The hotel itself is a great building, but needs considerable maintenance, and the three rooms I visited were only superficially clean. One room had water pouring down the wall from the Aircon, and well established black mould growing underneath. Second room had broken toilet cistern which leaked. Third also had cistern problems. Staff were helpful and moved me each time without fuss. But after one night there I gave up and move to another hotel, although I’d paid in full. Balcones is advertised as a budget no-frills hotel, but for only £10 a night more, I stayed at the high quality El Convento instead. I Wish this hotel well for the future, it needs some investment and love and it could come back to life as the great hotel I remember from a previous visit 10 years ago.

A nice hotel. Fantastic location, 2 blocks from the cathedral. Small but comfortable room. A/C and fan! Three options for breakfast in the morning. All very filling. Would return.

Nice little hotel for decent price.

It is a decent hotel for the money. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I have stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks. The staff went out of it's way to please me. The rooms are not great, but efficient and clean with air-conditioning and flat screen. Very closed to most everything.

Bad reservatio system

I booked 2 rooms with the same name and hotel didn't register the second room because they thought it was a duplicate booking, without verifying the itinerary number. They also are not well synchronized with Expedia, since in Expedia they have a price per room and when we arrived we had to pay more because they said the price was per person. Finally, the room floor was not clean, air conditioning was old and didn't work. Pretty bad experience myself.

Not up to snuff

The nightclub down the street blasted music loud enough to create tremors on Mars. In addition, the street noise outside the hotel was very loud. After our first night, we asked for, and received, an inside room, which was much better. The breakfasts were marginal.
