This hotel has a special feel, not sure if its the friendly caring staff or the fact that its a bit like The best exotic Merigold Hotel. Location was good, off Garlic lane but set back a bit so its quiet but still in the middle of all the action. Lots of friendly staff always around cleaning or there to help if needed. The Spa attached was excelllent, I saw a healer there, for my painful heal and had massage and ear waxing ect and all priced well. The hotel is oldish but that just adds to the appeal. Room was clean and a friendly room attendant was always close by, the gardens are nice and peacful, 2 pools were good not overcrowded. Breakfast was very average but on par with most budget hotels. The pool side bar was OK for beer but not much in way of cocktails. Excellent value and hope to return one day.

We really liked this hotel as it is close to all the best this place has to offer. Also, good value for money as this unpretentious place is best place to have good sleep. Still, some room for improvement

I stayed here for three nights when i first arrived back on Bali. The room stunk of the mold that was riddled through the bathroom and around the walls, they attempted to disguise it by hanging an air freshener from the AC system which is also in dire need to servicing, it was noisy and pretty ineffective as far as AC units go. The room was riddled with mosquito's and and i had to go and buy some fly spray and douse the room with it, close it up and co out for a while while it took effect. The bathroom was simply disgusting and in need of a good scrub as it was covered in mold. the door was falling to pieces and couldn't be shut properly. the bed was neatly and tidily made with sheets that were almost worn through, they looked as if they used to be white at some stage of their life but that was long ago, they were grey and stained and should have been replaced long ago. I'd hate to see the state of a standard room as this was an upgrade room that i paid for. There was a couple in the room next to mine that had a huge fight disturbing myself numerous other residents which was not appreciated as i needed to be up early for a dive trip, they were yelling at each other and slamming doors for over 2 hours and even after complaining the staff did nothing to try and stop it. I have no problem staying in a budget type of accommodation but as a minimum standard it needs to be clean to a reasonable standard (moldy and smelly is simply not acceptable for any reason or budget level!) To sum it up this would be the worst place i have ever stayed and wouldn't even let my dog stay in that room. my advice is never stay there!

Just stayed here for 10 nights.Never again. Asked for a ground floor room. Got a first floor room. Changed the next day at $10 per night more to find we had no hot water. Changed again and got a better room. Although the towels stank. Don’t think they use washing powder. If you want to have a swim forget it as they never had any pool towels. We were paying top price and they could not supply us with basic needs. They say you get what you pay for but surely a pool towel is not a big ask. Hotel is run down and needs urgent money spent. We see one wall coming away from the main building at the rear section of rooms that looks very dangerous.

Great location accommodating staff rooms a little tired but do able. Small breakfast but for the price it's fine. Pools clean chairs lacking and need replacing. Good value cheap holiday but rooms at rear really need upgrading.

Went to stay here looked good on internet but in real life no so no fridge no kettle no water in room tried 3 more rooms no water there an upgrade is a superior room with a old fridge didn’t stay took the prepaid room as a lose and left for a better hotel

Room had cockroaches running around everywhere, hair in bedding, funky smell in entire room, shower broke when I used it, towels were old and smelled mouldy. Booked for 9 nights, only stayed 1 and they wanted to charge me for 7. Spoke to booking manager on the phone when I was checking out, he was rude and argumentative. I was happy to pay for 1 night but after speaking with booking manager on phone I walked out. Would not recommend ever.

The Suriwathi doesn’t pretend to be what it’s not. It is an old set of villa style rooms, a couple of pools and gives you a basic breakfast in the price. But if you want to stay near shopping, a 100 mtrs to the beach, have big rooms that are air conned and have a fridge, it is perfect. We are on our 5th visit here mainly because it is not a resort, but it is very comfortable. You will pay 6x the rate at the resort, or stay at Suriwathi and have some to spend.

The hotel was old. But it is well maintained and clean. The top advantage is the hotel is located in the congested Legian area, but the hotel yard is spacious and quiet. The breakfast is ok. Value for money.

Four of us shared a 2-bedroom villa just before Xmas. Bali was really quiet at that time, At $38 a night each we felt this was good value. The nearby villa was not booked so we had the private pool to ourselves. The hotel was really quiet, only a couple of guests so main pool plus bar and restaurant, was mostly unused. Suriwathi is just off garlic lane so extremely central to bars, shops, markets and eateries. Yet it is very quiet and peaceful - a little oasis. The villa was created out of beautifully carved wood, but a little rundown - eg doors wouldn’t close properly but beds were comfortable, bathrooms had baths and showers. Overall it was very clean, with cleaning and beds changed as often as wanted. The other villa was having renovations so guessing both will be even better for future guests. Staff were friendly and helpful. Promptly cleaned our pool on request. There’s motorbike rental on site plus car with driver hire at competitive rates. Breakfast was included- eggs to order, toast, fruit, fried rice alternated with fried noodles plus pancakes, veggies or fried potatoes, Bali coffee, tea and juices. We were happy with that! Overall, we were very happy with our choice of hotel.
