We turned up at this hotel as we decided to extend our short trip to France. Our first impressions were good as the hotel had gone through major refurbishment. The two receptionists were very friendly and welcoming. We booked into an Executive Room with Sea View and Balcony and the view was fantastic. However, we arrived at the room and we had to call the cleaner back to clean parts of the room. The shower doors did not close properly. The soap dishes were hanging off and the coffee table was broken. In the evening it turned cold and the heating was not adequate for the room, we were offered blankets by a surely young man on reception who made it quite clear he was not interested in us at all. The only saving grace of this place was the friendly staff in the restaurant. The food was reasonable, we had no complaints on dinner or our breakfast.
This is a lovely hotel situated right on the huge, expansive beach - stunning views everywhere - great salt water indoor swimming pool - very proffessional staff - everything very smart and chic - my tip is to splash out a little extra and get a sea-view room with balcony - we had a small room at the rear of the hotel overlooking the car park ! The only disappointment for us was dinner in the super stylish restaurant - we had recently thoroughly enjoyed a gastronomic supper at the Novotel Thalassa in Dinard (Brittany) superb menu, beautifully cooked seafood - but alas, not here at Le Touquet unfortunately - the menu was extremely limited compared to Dinard and the dining experience, although good, was no where near as memorable. It was a pity really as it was the last night of our holidays and I wanted to spoil my partner with a meal to remember.
Stayed couple nights this week. Hadn’t been for over 10 years and hotel has been refurbed very nicely. Stayed in an exec room looking out to sea. Was great. Very clean and comfy bed Loved open plan style and private enough we could leave curtains open so could see sea first thing in morning. Only criticism was the paper cups. Breakfast was very good and a really friendly smiley chef. We drank in bar and we found staff friendly not like other reviews. We had intended to walk in to town for dinner but weather a bit suspect so we ate in hotel. Staff were really nice and they even got the daily special menu translated for us. My husband had oysters both nights as he thought were great. The menu is not big but Is well cooked and we enjoyed it. The outside is not attractive although they are trying to improve it. We can’t wait to return in spring with better weather.
The hotel is facing the sea and close to the city center. The simplicity of the front of the hotel contrasts with the exceptional view from the entrance to the hotel. The service is top. No complaints.
Spacious restaurant with fantastic panoramic view over the sea. Great service, food well cooked. However the menu is pretentious and overpriced. Every dish had an unnecessary extra 'signature' ingredient. For example, good oysters do not need enhancing with fish eggs or apple! It doesn't improve them, it ruins their delicacy. Could be stunning, but trying too hard.
As I wasn’t expecting very much after all it is a Novotel, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. We received a warm welcome on arrival and the hotel has a open feel with a wall of windows with magnificent views to the open sea. The deck bar makes you want to just sit and let the strain of a long trip just wash away. The Bed room was clean if a little basic but the bed was so comfortable it was like a warm hug. We stayed in the hotel for dinner and OMG the sea food buffet was magnificent and I wish I had taken a photo to show you. It wouldn’t have been out of place in a 5star hotel, I wish I had booked the hotel for a extra night. The downside on the day we stayed the hotel had no water for about 8hrs but this didn’t impact on our stay as the staff seemed to cope with very little impact on guests.
There are many good points and features about this Novotel. If you've booked a sea view, the scenes are wonderful. The hotel and rooms are clean and efficient. The bathroom was modern and clean. The wifi was excellent throughout the hotel. Nice touch to include Nespresso machine. Reception and cleaning staff were efficient and friendly. Bar staff less so - often disinterested and unhelpful especially weekend lunchtimes. It was very disappointing that both the Spa and the Gym were closed during our stay for renovation. No mention was made of this on the website or when we booked. There was no hot water on the last morning of our stay - seemed to be off for a couple of hours at least. Several guests mentioned it to me, so not an isolated room. No apology or notice at reception. (The water was also off for part of another day but this was due to the renovation work apparently and therefore understandable) We had glorious weather but enjoying the sunset over the English Channel on the uncomfortable balcony plastic seats lessened the pleasure. Some rooms are a long, long walk from reception. Do check if you have mobility issues. Breakfasts were good, albeit €19. Good choice of savouries and breads, fruits, yoghurts and juices. Hot selection available but average quality. The Thalassa is not cheap, especially for solo guests. It is a nice hotel, perhaps more functional than luxurious in any sense. The star is of course the dune and sea setting and the price understandably reflects that. It's unfortunate that there are no other bars or cafes within easy walking distance and town is a about twenty minutes away. We had a pleasant stay despite the failings but I do wonder if the Thalassa is more geared to the overnight traveller rather than the longer stay guest.
Our room had been recently refurbished so it felt fresh although the bed was too hard for us. The comments by many other reviewers about paper cups for coffee in the room are relevant. Although we had a Nespresso machine in our room, we only got two coffee capsules per day so we were limited to one cup of coffee each per day which considering the price we were paying for the room, this seemed inadequate. The rooms are small however if you have a sea facing room, the wonderful view of the huge beach gives you a feeling of space. The restaurant looked nice but we were not able to eat dinner there because no dogs are allowed in the restaurant. Luckily there are several good quality restaurants in the town that accept dogs. I had read complaints about the staff attitude before we went, but on our trip they were fine and did their best to answer our various questions.
Stopped here for 5 nights it’s at the end of the road 5 minutes walk to the main area of bars shops and restaurants, the hotel has nothing in front of it except sand and sea which is brilliant, the sea is shallow and surprisingly warm it’s great. Staff very friendly, room had a big shower but a small toilet, tv has a few news channels but that’s it, it’s quite expensive about €7 a beer or glass of wine the bar closes at 11pm, the pool is inside and it is saltwater, we loved Le Touquet and the beach I wish we had visited here before, the hotel has ample free parking served by barriers, I am told the sea view rooms are for 2 people only, fridge in the room no where to dry anything if you don’t have a balcony Great time will visit again
I try to avoid excessive reviews, and most often agree to comment only when confronted with some kind of issue during my stay. Well, for once, this is simply to say that everything about my stay was absolutely wonderful. Front desk (check-in, check-out) : 10/10 Housekeeping : 10/10 Food & Beverage / Room service : 10/10 Can’t honestly come up with anything negative to mention. PS I should add that you come to this hotel mainly for the view (you’re paying for the view) so don’t even think of booking a room facing the « dunes » (parking lot).
