The Granary House Traditional 19th century home in the heart of Bourg d’Oisans
The Granary House offers flexible accommodation, ideal for families and groups of friends. The ground floor is an open plan living room and kitchen / diner. Two large and one small sofa provide comfortable seating to relax after a hard day on the slopes or in the saddle! and a TV is provided for watching DVDs or your own device. The kitchen / dining area has seating for up to 10 and a very well equipped kitchen with coffee machine, microwave with grill, full size oven and ceramic hob. At the top of the house is a second living room, perfect space for the teenagers to hide away, or to find peace and quiet with a book and the amazing mountain views. Up here you'll find a large sofa bed and two comfy chairs. The 1st floor provides a double bedroom, twin bed room, separate toilet and bathroom. The 2nd floor has a king size room, twin bed room, and shower room with toilet.
'The Granary House is a traditional French Town House in the centre of Bourg d'Oisans. Combining 19th century tradition with modern comfortable living this self-catering accommodation provides a true home from home. Bourg d’Oisans is your gateway to the mountains and all they have to offer: sport, relaxation and un-spoilt nature. It is only 20 mins to Alpe d'Huez, a snow-sure ski resort perfect for all abilities. Its convivial atmosphere, fabulous outdoor pool with corkscrew slide and toddlers pool, wide choice of shops, bars and restaurants and vibrant market are simply idyllic. The Granary House will accommodate up to 10 people and The Stable House which is next door sleeps another 12.
Cycling Paradise: From small country roads to solitary mountain passes lost in the clouds, Oisans is a very popular area for cycling. Come and explore the six valleys of this fantastic area with its winding roads, its perched villages, sitting on mountain tops like eagles’ nests, or its more gentle roads opening up its hidden valleys. As you will see, each road has its own history and each village has its own distinctive character. The ‘30 Cyclo Tourisme’ guide lists 30 routes all starting from Bourg d’Oisans, including the infamous 21 hairpin bends to Alpe d’Huez, as well as some less strenuous routes suitable for all the family. Oisans hosts spectacular mountain bike competitions such as ‘Megavalanche’, the longest MTB downhill race in the world, starting in Alpe d’Huez and finishing 30km and 2800m further down. There are events for everyone to participate in and with the cable car open all year round, the route up the mountain could not be easier!
Summer Activities for Kids and Big Kids!: Take flight! Paragliding courses for beginners, tandem jumps and advanced courses all available. On the water - whether you choose the peace and tranquility of fishing or the excitement of white water rafting, you can find it here, with over 200km of streams and rivers and many mountain lakes. Sailing, kayaking, rafting and canyoning, swimming pools, fountains in the summer, the water offers a wide range of refreshing possibilities. The childrens club is open all summer to children aged 4 to 14, with all sorts of activities, swimming outings, tree climbing and sports tournaments. The Ecrins National park was created to protect and enhance the extraordinary natural heritage of Oisans. It has over 680km of way-marked trials ranging from simple strolls to adventurous hikes. Surrounded by the majestic mountains, whatever path you choose the setting is sure to be memorable. The 'Via Ferratas' (ladders, ramps and cables fixed to the rock face) provide climbers with complete security
Getting to Bourg and Alpe d'Huez: Our closest airport is Grenoble, a small provincial airport that is wonderfully quick to get in and out from. Ryanair fly all year round and Easyjet in winter. Grenoble airport is 56 miles and about an hours drive from Bourg. We recommend pre-booking car-hire or you can take the transfer to Grenoble City Centre and a bus from there. Almost as easy is Lyon airport which is 85 miles and about an hour and a quarter drive. British Airways and many of the low cost airlines operate flights to Lyon and there is more choice to Lyon from airports in the Midlands and the North. Some guests also fly into Geneva which is about 2 1/2 hours drive. Grenoble train station and city centre is 44 miles from Bourg d'Oisans with a number of buses available. If you prefer to drive it is 8 to 9 hours from Calais or Boulougne. It's an easy, if long drive, as the motorways tend to be much quieter than the UK. The tolls are about 80 euros each way.
The vacation home is heated and features a kitchen and 2 bathrooms, and there's space to spread out with 5 bedrooms. Guests can expect to find a TV with a DVD player. Other standard amenities include a sofa bed and an ironing board.

The Granary House
Verblijf was top! We hadden met z’n vieren meer dan voldoende ruimte. Het huis was prima in orde, netjes en van alle gemakken voorzien. Helaas geen plek om privé buiten te zitten, maar meer dan genoeg locaties in de buurt om dat te compenseren.
We were a group of 6 friends on a biking trip to Bourg in July. The town is wonderfully charming and the support for bikers is great. The house was very good. It gets hot up on the top two floors in the heat, but constant open windows helped (30c highs while we visited).
The kitchen/living area on the ground floor was tighter than we’d expected but fine if you’re just hanging out for short periods, and head out for every meal, as we did. I recommend it!

Great location, spacious upstairs bedrooms, very cold (and wet) downstairs
The property is situated in the city centre which makes shopping convenient. There is a free parking 1 minute away.
The house is built beautifully and the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom are very comfortable.
The living room and kitchen downstairs was freezing despite keeping the heating on all the time as two small radiators is not sufficient for the area.
Also the kitchen sink was clogged mist of the time and leaked small amounts of water which made the kitchen floor cold and damp. The host accepted the problem and waived our electricity charges to the property as a goodwill gesture which is appreciated
We stayed in the Granary House for 4 nights as a base for a cycling break. The property is ideally located in a quiet back street of Bourg d'Oisans and was perfect size for our group of 6 blokes. The house was clean, tidy and well furnished and equipped. A useful feature for us was access to the cellar where you could store bike-boxes and bikes out of the way.
In all my dealings with the owner I found them very friendly and helpful, including organising a late check-out for us at short notice.
Would go back to this property - a good find!

Mountainous disappointment...
Upon arrival we noticed a very strong smell of mold to which my wife is extremely sensitive. After notifying the owner that we may have to vacate if staying upstairs with the bedroom door closed didn't help, the owner said they would try to have someone come around, but nobody came.
Although the smell dissipated somewhat after airing the place out, my wife had congestion and burning in her eyes and lungs the next morning. After informing the owner of our need to vacate the property the owner abandoned all pretense of sympathy and stated, “I am sorry that you are not feeling well but to be honest it seems somewhat far fetched to blame that on our house. If for whatever reason you feel you cannot stay that is up to you but I will not be issuing a refund unless there is a fundamental problem with the house that makes it uninhabitable.”
To use her words, we had literally just stated a fundamental problem with the house that made it uninhabitable, but since she found it “far fetched,” she flatly said she wouldn't issue us a refund for the remaining two nights even though we'd not yet asked for it. We attempted to educate her on the danger of mold to people with sensitivities, providing a link to a reputable medical source but she didn't respond. Her ignorance regarding mold and health issues did nothing for our bliss, and her complete lack of understanding basically cost us double since we to rent another property. She also stated there was nothing wrong with the property even though she wasn't there and no one had come around to check on the property until the moment we were leaving.
Additionally, the property was noticeably dirty, a particular irony due to the long list of requirements for the renter from the housekeeper no less on all steps to be taken to leave the property clean upon leaving. Also, after asking for a discount from the price since there was only going to be two of us, not ten, using only one bedroom, there was an additional cleaning fee imposed that amounted to the size of the discount. A followup check on the listing revealed that a cleaning fee wasn't even part of the rental so we ended up with no discount whatsoever.
Unfortunately we cannot recommend this property. A shame since the area is stunningly beautiful.

We went skiing during our stay and it was a 25min drive from house to the ski lifts.

Lovely Mountain town retreat.
The stay in Bourg-d'Oisan was just right. The house was great for our group and the communication with Liz was perfect. We had a lovely stay and would highly suggest using their property if you want to experience Alps d'Huez, but the feel comfort of your own home. Kitchen was well stocked and the town has plenty of shops and restaurants. I would return!

Good Base for Alpes D'Huez
Comfortable, clean and very spacious! Excellent having the second mezzanine living area for our teenage boys to play board games etc, without complaining about the adults talking too much!
Kitchen well equipped and plenty of space for the dining table for all to sit around comfortably.(There were 5 of us.) Bathrooms modern and even with showers all round, didn't run out of hot water! Also, has an actual bath which was a lovely treat.
Watch out for the hairpin bends if you are driving to the resort, and the car park is just around the corner. Also, a good bus service for eager skiers which leaves Bourg D'Oisans early in the day or late starters that don't want to get out before noon. Taxis not too expensive if you want to stay late at the resort to enjoy the night-life. Lockers cheap to rent at the resort, so you don't have to lug your ski stuff back and forth daily.
In the heart of small town for restaurants in the evening and near shops to stock up, if you want to stay in.
No outside space, but lovely little park 2 minutes away to sit out in, if you are not going skiing.
Lovely base for our skiing holiday. Thanks

18 cyclist in Biking Mecca
We hired both The Granary House and Stable House for a week of cycling and had a brilliant holiday. Bourg d'Oisans is a fantastic base and for the days when some of us didn't want to cycle the outdoor pool is gorgeous and so are the mountains and lakes. Also had a great day out at Vizille. Really well stocked kitchens and huge living room and kitchen/diner in The Stables allowed us all to get together. Local bars, cafes, shops and restaurant are a real French treat. Houses just as described, Liz and Steve easy to deal with it. No hesitation in recommending these houses for a really good summer break, with or without bikes.

An excellent place to stay in the area
A lovely place to stay for a summer cycling break. Very comfortable. All facilities clean and in good working order, and location ideal. WiFi was not available for our visit, but advised it was on order, which should be good for future visitors. And there were plenty of cafes with WiFi anyway. Booking process straightforward and owners easy to liaise with. Would definitely recommend to others. Enjoy!!

Granary House
Very nice house in a beautiful location. House was as described in description. The property is well maintained and clean. Good cooking facilities if you prefer to eat rather then head to one of the many restaurants in the town.
We would highly recommend this house you won't be disappointed. Owners were easy to deal with and very efficient in responding to any queries.

Great cycling holiday
We have stayed with a group of uncles and nephews at the Granary House and we had a great time. This was our second time here and just as the first time we loved it. Bourg d'Oisans is a bit boring in this time of the year, but we were there to climb some mountains so that wasn't a problem to us. We had a great time here cylcling and running up the mountains.
The first time we stayed in the Stable house which is a big bigger, but the Granary house was big enough for us. Before we came we were informed that there were some problems with the cleaning of the house, but when we came the property was clean.
The discription on the site, fits with the property so everything was like we expected it to be, although you have to look carefully at the pictures provided on the site. Because some of the pictures belong to the stable house and not to the granaray house.
We will come back here next year for another cycling holiday and we recommend this property to anyone who comes here to cycle and wants to stay in a nice house!

Great Base for a Ski Holiday
We have had a fabulous time skiing over Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Granary House. What a lovely house in a stunning setting.
Three of us managed to Ski Alpe D’Huez, Les 2 Alpes and Serre Chevalier. The snow was good and by the end of the week most of the runs were open. The beginners amongst us had a great time too and Alpe D’Huez seems a great place to learn.
I will definitely think about using The Granary House if we ski Alpe D’Huez again. I will also recommend it to friends who may ski in that area.

Top Pad for a cheap ski break
9 of us just got back from pre-Xmas ski trip. House was brilliant and was great value for a large group. The drive up to Alpe d'Huez was no problem. Plenty of bars, good supermarket and kebab shop in the town. What else do you need?
Couldn't have afforded a place like this on the slopes. Beats being stuck in a small, grotty apartment and the minor inconvenience of not being in the centre of Alpe d'Huez really isn't a big deal.
We booked right at the last minute, owners were responsive and was very handy that we were able to pay by credit card

Big bike group at both Stables and Granary
We were 17 (!) middle aged men and our over-price road bikes coming from Canada to suffer on the legendary climbs of the Tour de France. An excellent time had by all in spite of some bad weather.
We used both houses: 10 in the Granary and 7 in the Stables. Everyone got their own bed but 2 slept on fold outs and one on a cot. Roughed it a bit, but no complaints - it was all about the riding (and the wine and cheese). The beds were comfortable and clean and the showers warm (except for the 6th and 7th man). Kitchen was supplied well enough that one of our group who enjoys gourmet cooking was able to produce meals for the whole group, including rabbit and rooster dishes... The only limitation was a lack of a corkscrew at the Granary, but we made due.
We had 3 rental vans and direct access to the houses was somewhat limited due to the narrow alley and street on which they are located. Still a nearby public parking lot was only a 5 min walk and had plenty of space for our vehicles and all our bikes.
All in all, a great spot for a home base and highly recommended.

The Granary House Jan '10
Just returned from 9 days skiing in Alpe d'Huez where we stayed at The Granary House.
Myself, my partner and our 2 children found this property comfortable, spacious and idea for families. We found the descriptions and pictures very accurate.
The location is idea for the surrounding ski resorts and village is friendly with everything you need.
The property was very clean upon arrival and well maintained with all of the home comforts.
We found Liz and Steve very helpful and they kept us fully informed throughout the booking process. I would recommend this property to friends and family and we would look to re-book this again.

The Granary House
We have just returned from an early summers break exploring the many climbs of the Tour De France.
The Granary House provided the perfect place to relax and recuperate after a long day in the saddle.
The many Bars & Restaurants of Bourg d'Oisans are only a short distance away from the fantastically located property. If you would rather spend a quiet evening in, the house offers everything and more any holidaymaker could want for a week away. Whatever kind of holiday your looking for, the Granary House will provide the perfect base

Cycle Tour 2009
We would fully recommend staying at The Granary House, or next door at the Stable House. We all had a great week in Bourg d'Oisans which is the perfect location for touring the Alpes and the house is brilliant - everything you need, comfortable beds and lots of space for a large group. Also very central for bars and shops. Crepizza and Cafe du Paris our favourites.
We will come back next year, hopefully with a group of 20 in both houses. Thank you Liz and Steve for sharing your holiday home.
