Great place

The unit was very comfortable, beautiful location and great service from housekeeping and cleaners. Didn't have a BBQ brush but there was a guy for that , who just came up and washed and scrubbed the grill without asking. Only complaints which were minor, was the single electrical outlet in the kitchen and the "cheesy" plastic cheese grater that broke, otherwise fantastic.

Upgrade of former beauty needed! It’s overdue for reinvestment to reach four star status. The beach view is minor. Noise levels at late and early morning hours were disturbing. Name provided but front gate guard did not grant entry via taxi upon arrival miscommunication in system.Entry to unit via electric lock was unsettling and worrisome. Repeated clitches and clutches. Does anyone want to deal with that at five star and upon arrival or after a long walk into the town or a pleasant rest on beach or back from swimming? Repairman suggested key but never returned to bring - did not call.Clarify electrical power charge to visitors prior to visit. AC in bedrooms and not in main living space. Hot tub dirty.Hot water was slow in both showers where it took too much wasted water to warm enough to take baths. Knob was quickly replaced but fixtures need upgrading.Pool lounge cushions are ripped and few.Bridge lights over the pond where it’s needed to access pool and unit upon going to and returning from lower levels at night are out—injury and hazardous fall may result. Staff on sight promised but did not deliver access key. Checkout process unclear.Concierge absent or not responsive. Two or maybe three star site bc of God’s creation and beauty. This is not a five star location or facility. I will not trust VRBO nor utilize its services again.

Beautiful property, exactly as advertised!

beautiful, well-appointed condo. Playa Ballenas was about a two-minute walk and was pleasantly uncrowded with nice sand, warm water, and food and drink service from the small cafe across the road - ideal. Everything worked as expected - kitchen was well-equipped, A/C in th bedrooms worked great, bathrooms and bedrooms were very nice. Did a good amount of cooking (didn’t try the “House chef”) and had everything we needed. Stephanie, Tony and Franco were all very helpful and friendly.

Amazing

Wow! Amazing place , beautiful condo , everything we imagine and beyond. Stephanie ( concierge ) was amazing offering suggestions for places to eat and amusing places, she really went way beyond expectations , so I was Franco very friendly and willing to help us all the time, and he really did in several occasions, what a wonderful team including the maid service. We gather upstairs several times and enjoy the jacuzzi with my wife and granddaughter it was just wonderful . I definitely recommend this place if you looking to have a relaxing and quite vacation. We are definitely going back next year.

The personal chef and the manager made this property worth the price. Unfortunately when we booked this property, VRBO had listed the house for the incorrect price. I received a message well after booking, stating the price was incorrect for the Easter weekend. By then, I had already purchased our airfare. I was left with no choice other than to pay the extra money or my reservation would be cancelled. Easter weekend in Las Terrenas is incredibly busy. The beaches are packed with young adults celebrating. The streets are impassable with motorcycles, 4 wheelers and vehicles. Fun for some, but not how we were hoping to spend part of our vacation. With this being said, after the holiday, our stay was perfect. Ingrid, the property manager, was absolutely wonderful. She was always available to answer any questions and was very prompt when we needed anything. The chef provided phenomenal meals. It is 55.00 a day for Danny to cook breakfast and dinner. You also pay for groceries but he does all shopping for the meals. The food was amazing and Chef Danny is a very kind, easy going person. Ingrid arranged Taxi service from Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas. The drive is a little over 2 hours. I was very thankful we did not rent a car. The driving is very chaotic with tolls and random speed checks. I would also highly recommend being able to speak at least a some Spanish.

Overall, a great stay. A few things to note for your trip

Las Terrenes, the people, the beach, and the culture are amazing. This town is an untouched village that commercialism hasn't discovered. The condo was beautiful and kept extremely clean by the housekeeping staff. The chef was amazing, and the cost of his meal was less than when five of us went into town for dinner (and his meal was better). Overall, we will return to this condo and appreciate Stephanie and Emma answering all our questions before and during our trip. Re: mosquitoes. I was concerned about Zika and the transmission by mosquitoes. There were no mosquito screens in the bathroom windows (I hope that is changed soon). The rest of the windows in the house are also without screens but that is because you have to open them to stay cool most of the day. The air conditioning units are in the 2 bedrooms and the only way to cool down the house is to close all the windows and wait for the air conditioners to cool the house-- this can take a while so plan ahead. Some nights we opted to open all the windows and keep the breeze coming in but that only works during the day, once nighttime hits the bugs will come in and gather around the lights. So, with the mosquito concerns, we either kept the lights completely off and chatted in the dark, or went into our rooms with the air conditioning. There is coffee and filtered water supplied for the house. The kitchen was fully stocked, the grill had a full gas tank, and the view was incredible. They provided us extra beach towels without a fuss and we valued all the staff very much. Overall, it was an enjoyable time and we thank everyone for their hospitality.

We are dreaming of returning here again soon!

After a vacation last winter in the lovely, freezing Montreal, we, our two sons, 16 and 23 opted for something warmer, which led us to look at the Dominican Republic, specifically the Samana Peninsula, for this years winter get away. A little bit of goggling led me to find Las Terrenas, an old fishing village -- with beautiful beaches, that retains its local culture and charm with so many delicious dining choices and adventurous outdoor activities. On HomeAway, the photos and description for this clean, contemporary, well appointed, quiet 2 bedroom PH villa with private deck/Jacuzzi are exactly what you get and gives you so much more. Once we reserved with Emma, who communicated with us promptly, she answered every question we had, gave us suggestions on travel, local information in and around Las Terrenas, plus the many options that come with the rental, Emma was so supportive and thoughtful, she made us feel so well taken care of right up to the very day of our trip. Stephany, is the villa’s cheerful and generously kind concierge/hostess - she was very forthcoming and helpful in getting any and all of our vacation needs set up. The travel from NYC is relatively easy with a short, nonstop flight from JFK to SDQ plus a 2-hour ride up past rice farms, small villages and over the mountains to the villa. TIP: While we had reserved a rental car, once we arrived at SDQ, we discovered that there were NONE to be had anywhere. Luckily, we were able to secure a taxi at the airport to bring us to Ribera Mar. In hindsight, I should have asked Stephany to get a car to pick us up instead, which would have been less stressful. The cost for the taxi ride is 190 US (9,500 pesos - at 50 pesos to 1 US$) each way, plus a 10% tip (the general amount suggested) that is always appreciated. TIP: the banks in DR only allow a daily withdrawal of $200 US (10,000 pesos), only the Scotia bank (one is at the markets: Super Pola, other at Super Linda) allows you to draw out more funds. We had $1500 USD with us, which was not enough since credit cards are only accepted at some restaurants. Having now been here, I would totally suggest bringing the full amount of US dollars to cover your trip. The unit has a very secure safe, the Bonita Village is fully gated with guards and completely safe. FYI it is easy to exchange US dollars in town, but honestly, everyone accepts US cash. We were happy to discover that while called a ‘resort town’, Las Terrenas itself is low key, quiet,

Stunning Property, Top-notch Service

4 adults stayed in the property for 8 nights the beginning of April. Our favorite part about the property was the location. It was at the end of the beach. Traffic was very light and the beach was our favorite that we visited. There were not many seaweed or rocks in the ocean at this location and the restaurant, Solymar, had wonderful service! I would highly suggest the grocery delivery as well as hiring the chef on the first night (at least). He prepared breaded calamari (holy cow, so good), snapper, potatoes and vegetables. It was all delicious and provided leftover fish for a couple additional meals. In addition, we had our concierge, Michael, set up massages while we were in town. The massages were refreshing and they offered couple’s massages. Michael always responded in a very timely manner. He setup most of our taxi rides and used the same driver. It was nice to be able to get to know and trust the driver. It made us feel very safe. The bedroom ACs were phenomenal! And that view, stunning! Emma is very responsive and was able to provide answers to our many questions. This was the first time we have stayed at a VRBO property, and now it won’t be the last! I would recommend bringing an English to Spanish book if you do not speak Spanish. Michael and Emma speak English, but the majority of people in the town do not. As mentioned in a previous review, there are no screens on the very large windows in the living room/kitchen. I would suggest closing the windows before it gets dark to prevent any bugs from flying in. Download WhatsApp if you don’t have an iPhone or bring a prepaid phone. The only issue we ran across was when we were picked up from SDQ for the 2 hour drive. With 4 adults, the car was not big enough for us and our luggage. We all squeezed in and made the best of it, but I would remind them that you will need a van vs a car for pickup. The property itself does not have chairs on the beach, but if you plan on eating lunch and purchasing some beverages you can sit in the chairs at SolyMar; otherwise, just a little bit further down there are chairs for the public. We REALLY enjoyed hanging out at SolyMar for our beach days. Between convenience and service, it is a must. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and the residence, service, and location really added to all the perks of Las Terrenas. I would highly, highly suggest it.

Lovely but remote

Pretty and clean apartment. Comfortable but low to floor bed, room darkening shades in bedroom. Small but nice bathrooms. Hair dryer and clean towels provided. Beach towels provided. Washer but no dryer. Recommend renting a golf cart because very far from everything. Otherwise, you must call for a taxi. Worth upgrading to central air conditioning. They do provide bellhop and daily maid service. The kitchen is well-equipped. Very nice and convenient to use the chef service. Little to zero shade by the pool. No drink or food services on site other than in-unit chef services. Lots of concrete stairs and a steep hill. This property is not mobility-friendly.

Overall nice experience

Nice location, clean property. Bathrooms are very small and have a poor design. Listing needs to be clarified: Chef breakfast is included, but they charge you cash for the groceries and only give you 2 options (Dominican or American breakfast)— great for a couple days, but if you are staying longer like we did, then more options would be helpful.

Island Honeymoon

My wife and I were here for our honeymoon after a destination wedding in Colorado in August. This was our second time visiting Las Terrenas and it won’t be our last. The penthouse was beautiful! We loved the design and attention to detail! The view is amazing and the ocean breezes were fantastic with the sliding glass windows all opened up. Some guests in other units had some crazy loud music outside for a few nights but as long as you like island music it was ok and couldn’t really hear from the bedroom. The chef was great for dinner our first night and the breakfasts were delicious each morning. I’m sure additional evening meals would’ve been just as delicious but we enjoy exploring the local cuisine and meeting the people. Some of our favorites are Ilnido, Portos, and the new Italian place down near center of town that Maria recommended. The beach right down from the condo is amazing and as good or better than any of the other beaches we visited with our quad while we were there. Maria and the rest of the staff took wonderful care of us while we were there. Can’t wait to come back!

Location location location

We had a little bit of trouble finding the property as we were driving. Google map apartamento Bonita village is absolutely key info to know…the private chef and his staff is absolutely luxurious necessity! So good! We found the food outside of the chef experience not very good anywhere else. The condo is in a perfect location on what we found to be one of the best beaches after exploring the peninsula quite a bit. The pool and grounds are very well kept. The hot tub got very hot which was awesome. Had some issues with showers but they did get fixed. Overall I believe it was one of the best VRBO places I’ve stayed in the world. The beaches are just stunning and the people friendly. The condo was as close to perfection as one can get and a perfect place to relax after adventuring out.

A slice of Heaven for the Holidays!

Heaven! The photos are accurate, what is hard to feel is just how open, bright and spacious this unit is. This was our second winter break stay in this fabulous penthouse, to our delight, it was just as wonderful as our first year there (reviewed Dec 2018. Learning from last year’s mistake of relying on obtaining our reserved rental car, we asked Betania to order a taxi to pick us up at the airport. Once in Las Terrenas, we couldn’t wait to get into the apartment, open all those fabulous ceiling to floor windows and let the warm breezes waft in while we enjoyed the incredible view. Knowing how delicious the dinners and breakfasts Chef Danny and Lenny prepared, we booked them for the entire 9 days and even got to look forward to having our favorite 1 or 2 dishes a second time. Danny will get any additional food or drink items you request, which, if you are not shopping, is a great time saver. Having breakfast with a variety of fresh cut fruit prepared every morning was such a treat, no doing dishes either! We also decided to eliminate the stress of the previous year, getting cash from the local ATMs and brought enough US$ and Dominican pesos for the entire vacation. With three laptops, the WIFI worked fine, though we did have to reboot it once in a while. The AC in the bedrooms is key for night sleeping, during the day we needed nothing. We enjoyed renting the units ATV’s (thank you Betania) to visit the different beaches, do quick food shopping in town or just discover the local neighborhood area. We enjoyed the upstairs hot tub late in the afternoon before dinner, the quiet peace of the waves in the distance as the sun set, leaving such beautiful colors in the sky. We did reserve our chaises with Leo at Sol y Mar (great pina coladas) the days we stayed on Las Ballenas beach. It was fun making friends with the three adorable dogs that live in the area. The water was an even 84 degrees every day. For New Year’s our 18 and 24-year-old went off to town to meet friends they made on the beach. My hubby and I picked one of the beach bars ordered a crisp mojito and sat on the beach as bonfire started and local fireworks bloomed just over our heads, just as beautiful as any NYC firework display! Having visited Los Haitises, horseback rode to the El Limon waterfalls (don’t walk!), and ATV’d the back areas of Las Terrenas (all with Henry at Peninsula Tours), this year we enjoyed the Catamaran/snorkeling/Cayo Levantado trip with Flora Tours. Condo in las Terrenas

We returned to this condo after a year hiatus. The property is extremely well cared for and furnishings up to date. It’s a 5 minute walk to the quiet end of the beach which is tranquil enough to swim in most of the time and another 10 to the beach bar section. Betania the local concierge was both attentive and responsive to our questions and needs. Danny, the private chef, is highly skilled and his menu items feature local fresh ingredients. Combined with the stunning beach view, this was a wonderful 10 days in the DR.

Beautiful location and property

The penthouse and location were absolutely amazing. Pros: The Chef service: Danny and Leny were outstanding! He was more of an onsite manager for us as he contacted the staff when they forgot to replenish toilet paper, towels, trash bags, and checkout list. The food was delicious and I would certainly recommend anyone staying here get this service. The villa is spacious and very comfortable. The view from the top floor is amazing!! We got massages up there and it was perfect! Check out was easy; we just paid for "extras" and left. No one from property mgt was there during check out. Tony was great at fixing what needed to be done and Franco also great with bags and hot tub maintenance. The place is very secure and have a great pool on site. The closeness to the beach was also a plus. Cons: We were surprised by the extra $20/day for air-conditioning in the living area but we needed it during the time as it was very hot and humid . I missed it online and it was not mentioned during check in. We had noisy neighbors and had to contact the concierge twice which proved to be difficult at times since the wi-fi was not consistent and we communicated through WhatsApp. Cleaning crew forgot to replenish some essentials even though we were the only customers at times but did a great job keeping the place spotless. Overall its a great villa in a great location. I would recommend renting a car; the drive is on a good road but get pesos since there are tolls. If you don't have a car, a taxi ride to the supermarket will cost you $20USD. Las Terrenas is a beautiful town and I can't wait to return.

June in Paradise

The property was just as advertised. Very clean and nice accommodations. It is located in a gated community with security checking all people coming in. Very safe. We were met by a bell person to show us where to park and he took all our bags up to the pentohouse. Oscar met us and welcomed us and answered any questions we had. The cooks Danny and Lenny were great. We asked for a traditional Dominican meal when we arrived and they delivered! Danny cooked breakfast each morning and it was delicious. The rooms were beautiful, clean and comfortable. The views were awesome. From the kitchen table you can just see the beach and ocean in clear view. The windows open up all around the living area and kitchen which was awesome. The top deck had spectacular views with hot tub and bbq and patio furniture. I would give overall 5 stars but the hot tub wouldn’t heat up for 2 days of our stay. So that was kind of sad as we’d hoped to use it more in the evenings to relax. Overall our experience was great, the communication was done well and we would return. Btw, this area end of May /early June was not crowded at all. We maybe saw 20 other people on the beach. We rented scooters for 2 days and cruises around. Many great restaurants right on the paved road (Diego’s was great for authentic wood fired pizza and calzones).

Incredible. Cannot wait to return!

Las Terrenas is an old fishing village that retains its local culture, charm with many great dining and outdoor activities. The description for this clean, contemporary, quiet 2 bedroom PH villa with deck/Jacuzzi was more stunning than we expected. Emma, who communicated with us promptly, answered every question, gave us suggestions on local travel and information in and around Las Terrenas. Stephany, the villa’s cheerful and thoughtful concierge/hostess made us feel well taken care of from the beginning. We reserved a rental car, in SDQ, once there we discovered that there were NONE to be had. We were able to secure a taxi but in hindsight, I should have asked Stephany to get a car to pick us up instead, which would have been less stressful. The 2 hour taxi ride is 190 US plus a 10% tip that is always appreciated. Banks in DR allow a daily withdrawal of $200 US, only the Scotia bank at Super Pola or Super Linda, allow you to draw out more cash. Having now been here, I suggest bringing the full amount of US dollars to cover your trip. The unit has a very secure safe, Bonita Village is fully gated with guards. It is easy to exchange US dollars in town but everyone accepts US cash. Stephany made sure we had everything we needed once we were checked in, staying in touch with Whatsapp. The unit has a water cooler/heater, all that's needed are bottles of water for your day needs and ice. The kitchen is fully stocked if you want to cook. Chef Danny and Lenny cooked our first dinner of fresh red snapper in a coconut sauce. After that, we asked them to cook for us every night. For $35 + ingredients, the portions are a nice size, we often had leftovers for our lunch the next day. We loved the squid calamari, grilled lobster, seafood kebab and the chicken with mushrooms. Chef Lenny made a delicious chocolate fondant anytime and our 16 year old asked for it every night. The bedrooms have AC, ceiling fans and the beds are comfy. Soaps, conditioners, shampoos in the bathrooms are replaced daily. Nothing I say can describe the view! Opening all the windows and doors, brings in the most incredible breezes. I still miss the incredible light and open feeling of the villa. The upstairs deck is a gift, eating breakfast in the am and at the end of the day, relaxing on the lounges or sitting in the delicious hot tub. We voted this best vacation, it was so very hard to leave such a paradise. Thank you Emma, Stephany, Chef Danny and Lenny and staff! See you again soon,
