Excellent welcome, wonderful room, fantastic location, exceptional food, impeccable service. My wife and me have been really good, three days really in contact with the fantastic indian ocean on a clean beach. Thanks to all the staff.

The Majlis Resort is everything you want it to be. Amazing food in a restaurant overlooking the Lamu Channel. Outstanding architecture mixing Italian, Indian and Swahili vibes. Wonderful hosts that will make you feel at home. I spent two nights in this idyllic resort a few weeks ago, and it was truly a dream come true. I have absolutely no complains, for the entire place was marvellous and its staff were just incredibly welcoming and nice. I must also note that the owners were very kind and made sure that we were enjoying ourselves during our stay at their place. I live in Kenya, and will continue to recommend the Majlis to all my contacts and friends in this beautiful country. After having travelled extensively throughout East Africa, I can very confidently say that this is the most amazing and beautiful place I have been to.

My family and I spent a week at Majlis resort. The Majlis team was wonderful and looked after us so very well. Always at our disposal. Always so very friendly and professional. The service couldn’t have been better! Majlis is magical! The facilities are amazing! The beaches are lovely! The children enjoyed a great variety of water sports. The spa offers a lovely choice of treatments. Both pools are fantastic and great fun! Our rooms were beautiful and very clean! The family behind Majlis looks after their hotel amazingly well. Thank you for a fantastic week!

I stayed five nights and felt warmly welcomed from the moment I arrived. The room was beautifully arranged with wide windows that allowed you watch the sun rise and set from your bed. The chairs, carpets and doors were tastefully arranged, inspired by local craftwork. Bougainvilleas greet you as you step outside. It seems that the owners took great care into every detail of the experience. There's a pool with a bar that has magnificent views of the beach and serves delicious cocktails with complimentary pizza slices, wonderful for hanging out on a summer night. The restaurant has great Italian cuisine. Wonderful service overall, especially from Sifuna who was consistently attentive and kind. The seafood tagliatelle is divine as is the tuna tartar. The deserts were delicious, particularly the chocolate fondant, coconut ice cream and the coco bongo, which is a mango in crystallized caramel. The hotel also offered bicycles for riding right on the beach around Shela island, which is an amazing experience. They also have Dhow sailing boats and kindly help you set up and find good routes through the local channels. They offer you wine and appetizers on board! The staff is very kind and welcoming and the owners are very friendly, tasteful and accommodating. I can't wait to go back!

I had an absolute bad time. Ali - guest relations was very welcoming. Same as Philemon the bartender. And the resort is very pretty. I have never experienced such racism despite having travelled to many local hotels and several countries. Federicko chased owner kicked us out. We came to celebrate a friends birthday. Had pre booked inclusive of cake and swimming. We were drinking our wine and having a good time. He approached two of us and threatened to call security. Said he didn't need our money. And earlier he made our bags to be moved to one couch cause we are black. Would never recommended. We had to leave. Very racist. Yet this is my country and he feels he can be racist.

This is my second time visiting the Majlis for a quick get away! and I LOVED it...the staff at the Majlis are fantastic and very welcoming. I was advised by the manager to try the new grilled mango dessert and I definitely recommend this to anyone who visits The Majlis. The property is lovely, clean and serene and I really appreciate how attentive the Directors the manager and the team are! thanks for such a fantastic time and I can't wait to come back soon

I would like all future guests to take time and read my review keeping in mind I have been to Majlis THRICE on separate occasions. Yesterday took me by surprise as my friends and I experienced blatant RACISM and profiling from one of the owners, Federico. This now explains why my previous visits were amazing (once I stayed 3 nights) was because none of the owners was there and we only had the local staff attending to us all fairly despite the race of their guests. Yesterday, we decided to celebrate our friend’s bday so we reserved lunch for 6 followed by cake cutting and swim as we wait for the evening to go for the sunset cruise. So we proceeded to swim and the First encounter was when the owner sent a waiter to us and we were told to remove all our bags from where we had sat. He didn’t even ask the manager to come, instead he sent a waiter to do it and she was so uncomfortable relaying such a discriminatory message...mind you when paying for swimming the least that could have been done for was to be politely shown by the manager a locker room / area to put our belongings as non residents. However, we still complied and moved them only for me to recall a couple of months ago we came for another bday lunch at majlis that had more foreigners than locals and funny thing is we had put our bags ALL OVER that same lounge area and never were we once told anything. Contrary to this we gave him the benefit of doubt despite feeling Profiles and guess what followed that? The owner, Federico came to the lounge area to tell me to stop screaming yet I had just asked a friend for my phone as I had been swimming and couldn’t see it. This puzzled me but I politely said “oh sorry” just trying to be respectful that maybe when I had been a bit loud when asking for my phone, but what followed next gave me a clear answer of his real intentions. I got back in the pool and was enjoying a one-on-one conversation with the birthday girl, only to look up to see Federico has followed me and now purporting that we are talking too loudly and we need to stop or else he calls security to kick us out. “I’m the owner and if you don’t stop talking now, just leave and I’ll call security to kick you out” . We just left the pool, gathered our things and left the premises out of sheer perplexion. I have never felt so humiliated or disrespected as yesterday and in my 22 countries, globally worth of TOURISM experience, I’m only saddened that these Italian owners want to make Kenya a racist place where tourists don’t enjoy. We have been so open to foreigners investing here but surely, at our own expense as domestic tourists? Nevertheless, The local staff apologised vehemently on his behalf and we met the other owner Stefano on our way out and his first question was “Is Federico drunk” meaning his brother is known to be aggressive and they blame it on alcohol 🙄🙄🙄🙄 Kindly note, being a tourist is a CHOICE and better yet, getting proper service delivery is mandatory especially when payments have been done. We appreciate all the staff who followed us and calmed us all down as we made a decision to leave the grounds even after the attempted apology by the other owner when we said we shall write reviews of the HORRIFIC experience. In other news, Peponi at Shela beach welcomed us and the bday girl had the TIME OF HER LIFE despite the earlier trauma .. Federico, #WeAreNotChildrenOfALesserGod

Visited the hotel for a day with some friends to swim and have lunch. Initially all was good, the hotel is pretty and most staff welcoming. Hours after being there, one of the owners, Frederico, comes to us and tells at us to get out of the pool and leave immediately. We were just swimming. He then threatened to call security on 5 girls. His behaviour was rude, disrespectful, mean and unwarranted especially to paying customers. He was racist to us as well. When asked why we were being kicked out, he didn't give a reason but said because he is the owner we must get out at once.

Had the worst experience ever. Federico kicked us out for no reason. The management is racist and rude. If you are black & want to experience your country in peace, do not attempt to visit this place. There are much better places to visit in Lamu.

We booked the resort for three nights. I made the choice between pepponi and majlis. Honestly at the beginning I was not sure about my choice but in the end turned out to be a good one. Start with positive things: 1. The staff are very nice, friendly and helpful. 2. Facility is good. Well I didn’t expect gym, but pools, spa, TV (we watched tennis), bar, sunbed, transport from and to the airport.... Indeed we need to pay the shuttle to Sheela or lamu town, and rent bicycle to Takwa ruin. I do agree everything has a price, but if the hotel can make these free, such as bicycle renting, it would be nicer. 3. Food are delicious. At least my children love their pizza and pasta. We enjoyed sea food. Didn’t try meat. 4. I like the rooms. Our room has a roof terrace, room is spacious and clean. You should not expect 5 stars hotel in Africa the same standard as in Europe or US. 5. The beach is the nicest beach I have ever seen! Not a single dried seaweed, only sand, you can swim without worrying about stones or shells or bleached corals which might cut your knee or feet. The water is clean and warm, and wave is not strong. It is really a big moment to walk along the beach during sunset or sunrise. For this I don’t regret to have chosen this hotel, because you won’t have this on Sheela island. Of course it has flaws, I think like any other hotel. 1. The hotel missed our pick up time. We had to wait in the arrival for about 15 minutes. I’m pretty sure the hotel will improve this. 2. Indeed we need to pay shuttle to Sheela and lamu town. We also rent the bicycle to Takwa ruins. I think the wind surf or other water sport is also not free. If the hotel could make bicycle, and some free windsurf lesson, it will become more popular. 3. I have read many comments about management. I have seen him in the resort on the last day. Well, seems not approachable if this is a flaw. All in all, the location is really great. On the beach you feel like the paradise. And I do hope the management of the hotel can make things better. My advice to you is book with breakfast, you go to Sheela for lunch, then pay at the hotel dinner. I will do like this next time.
