Lampang River Lodge3.0 out of 5.0

The Lodge has 3 levels of accommodation, so be aware when booking as standard rooms are small and do not have fridges or kettle. We stayed 3 nights (most people appear to only stay 1 night)The setting is beautiful with acres of large tropical manicured gardens, lake and pool (with no one in it except us). It is 10 kms out of Lampang which means taxi (not a lot available) or you stay on location. I had the sense that this property would have been a wonderful place to stay 10-15 years ago but is now a little rundown and needing an upgrade in places in particular the standard rooms of which we had 3. The restaurant is outdoors and menu well adapted to western taste (unfortunately) and breakfast is served at another location on the property and the setting is beautiful and on the river. The menu was OK but I am guessing has not been changed for years and had the worst coffee of our trip. Staff were helpful when needed (we had to change rooms due to ants infestation) and there was always someone available if you had a query. Mosquito nets are not provided in all room which makes it impossible to sleep with windows open as there are no screens. Take repellent as the mosquito's are ferocious and in large numbers If you are looking for a quiet out of the way place to stay in beautiful gardens and outlook, this might suit you well, but check your accommodation details and amenities and book into deluxe or executive if you can afford it.
Absolutely the the natural setting of the place. What would make it even better if I had had the chance to sleep with the windows open to enjoy the fresh forest air and the songs of the birds instead of being forced to sleep in air conditioning.
We stayed for two nights. It's nice location close to nature. It's beautiful scenery around resort. We enjoyed with riding elephants. Also, staffs so friendly and helpful. Overall, it's worth the money. Highly recommended !!
Very nicely located in a beautiful garden with own little lake. Breakfast buffet is mediocre only. No mosquito nets at the windows which do not allow you to keep window open at night. This is really a pity because the nights are cool. The net they provide for the bed is uncomfortable. Restaurant food unfortunately is very much adapted to Western taste. It is a transit hotel. I think we have been among the very few that stayed for two nights. In Lampang itself there is not much to see.
Me and my wife stayed in the hotel for one night, but it was overall a good experience. The setting is excellent, by the river, but it is located outside Lampang center, so no nightlife here. We stayed in a cottage where the room was very small but ok for a sleepover. The dinner and the breakfast was good and there were no problems with the internet.
We stayed at this hotel (mid-February 2017) due to a friend's wedding in the area and we were told this was the best place to stay. We took the night train to Lampang and hence arrive at the hotel at 7am (after a 20 min tax from the train station), the hotel staff were very unhelpful and seemed to have no idea what to do with us! After some prompting they let us leave our luggage at reception (as we were not allowed to check in till 2pm even though there were obviously rooms available!). We asked the hotel to arrange a tax back to the city centre and they quoted us a ridiculous price so we decided to find our own way instead. The room was nice but small, it had all the expected amenities and the bathroom was of a good size. The hotel grounds were very nice, well presented and the pool are is in a secluded sunny part of the grounds. The dinning area was also nice and there was some night time entertainment at dinner. The breakfast was good and had a lot of choice, including fresh fruit and pancakes. The prices at the hotel were again ridiculous! We didn't pay prices like that in Bangkok so were shocked when we were presented with the price list. The other issue is that the hotel is in a secluded area 20 mins away from the city centre so we had no choice other than to have dinner there. The food were served was not of good quality and it was such a shame. The hotel staff were awful, they were at best clueless. When we were checking out they presented us with the items we had charged to our room, they had managed to add up the various receipts wrong and upon inspecting the receipts we notices they added items that we had not signed for. We left the hotel after 3 days very annoyed and extremely dissatisfied with the whole experience.
This hotel is a little gem by far the best setting for a hotel we have stayed in and the restaurant was very very good great choice of Thai dishes and the breakfast restaurant overlooks the river. So relaxing loved our 3 day stay
Increíble but rooms walls are so thin. Even the enviroment and the service are incredible, once the lights turn off and you want to sleep, you can hear your neigbours breathing higher than the frogs outside... a pitty... becasue the surroundings are great. The room is a little bit old and needs to be painted... but the price is ok. We get lost 2 times because google maps sent us to a non-end road along the riverside. We walked a bit trough the trees and find the right en trance. Then, we went back to the car and turned arround to get the car into the parkig of the hotel. 10km away from the city center. So you need to hire something to come.
It is not an easy task to chose a hotel in Lampang, either you are coming for the elephants or making a stop Between Chiang rai / Chiang mai. Hotel is good, especially outside. It is design and make you feel you are in a northern village surrounded by nature. See the pictures, they have a great garden and tree collection. But, rooms are not what you expected. They are okay for 20 years ago. They are mainly cold, you can hear next room noises. Floor cracks, they have lack of light, and in some cases humid. Shower is rather cold for some reason. They are often, groups visiting the hotel, so it will be part of the mass. Also, keep in mind the hotel is about 15km from the city. So you will be most of the time at the hotel. Attention: on the way back transport to train station is 400thb which is way too much. If you can arrange before hand will Be better... To sum up, if you are a beginner is Thailand could be a good place, but if you have been around for a while you know they are better choices for the same Price.
This hotel is set in a beautiful location. Rooms are nice although there are loads of mosquitos here. Food was great and the evening music was fantastic. Very nice to have breakfast next to the river. Staff are Friendly and made us feel welcome.
