Just returned home after a fantastic stay in the Grand, a bit dated glad to hear rooms are having a lick of paint in the Winter, only gripe... cost of the drinks in the hotel ..ridiculous and to pay £5 extra for a poached egg !!!!!!!
Just returned after a week here and have very mixed feelings about this hotel. Yes, it is a lovely hotel and we had a room overlooking the lake, the food was very good and most, if not all of the staff were friendly (rather miserable at breakfast). However, as mentioned in other reviews prices of drinks were ridiculously high, and to charge €5 for a soft boiled or poached egg when the chef is stood making omelettes is incomprehensible! There was also a conference at the time of our stay and feel that the many delegates deterred from the 'holiday feeling' . We feel that this hotel and resort are more suitable to the many elderly guests which seem to stay here year after year.
If you like the oldie style of the the 1940s,you will like it here, some say it should be updated,I think it gives it character, the staff here are very helpful and they work hard. The food here is great, the amount of choice for breakfast..you won't need lunch. the room we were in was large and had a small hallway to the bathroom, wich was also large,my only gripe about the room..it had no tea making facilities.the view from the room out to the lake was breathtaking you can put up with a lot with a view like that. I dont think the hotel would cater well for very young families, does well for the more seasoned traveler,if you like peace and quiet, this is a very good place to be. Be careful if you are on a budget, drinks are not free with the evening meal, and they will bill you at the end I would stay here again, may be a good idea to take one or two warm clothing with you,as it rained most of the time we were there,a bit chilly
This was our 16th stay which speaks for itself. This is not a slick modern hotel but rather an elegant old lady with charm and a wonderful ambience. The staff are terrific, the food excellent and whole thing adds up to a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable holiday. It was pleasing to hear the bedrooms are to be refurbished this winter
This is a lovely comfortable hotel, with a very high standard of service at all times. Some rooms and corridors are very much in need of modernisation, although considerable refurbishment has been done in many areas of the hotel. There was a very large medical conference taking place for several days of our stay which was intrusive of space for guests, leaving very little space to sit in the lounge for example. If this was during your first visit this would give a very unfavourable impression of the hotel. Service is a a very high standard and food is execellent in the main restuarant which s very well managed by Roberto. Reception staff are very friendly and helpful, and there are plenty of staff generally which makes for the very smooth running of this hotel, so that many guests are frequent returners
Perfect. Location, Service and Quality were all outstanding. Everybody we encountered at the hotel were friendly, courteous and extremely professional. We were half board at the hotel and had to pinch ourselves every breakfast and dinner at the idyllic views from the dining room. Gardone is one of the quieter resorts on the lake, but for us it was a lovely peaceful haven to return to after visiting other busier, bustling towns around the lake. The ghg is perfectly positioned on the southern end of the lake right next to the jetty where the boats pick up. If you are B&B only, there are still ample places to dine out in the evenings close by. We would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again in the future.
Stayed here for a week in early September. One of the best hotels we've ever stayed at.situated right alongside the western side of the lake it was almost like being on a cruise without the motion. Fast efficient signing in at reception where there were always several ladies on hand to help. Portage to rooms via lift that looked like something out of an Agatha Christie novel. Our room was beautifully furnished with a very comfy bed, selective lighting, TV and a very clean and modern en suite unit. Room service was excellent. There is a beautifully appointed large, sumptuous lounge; a music bar with live piano and jazz or easy listening music every night and a large dining room, part of which is open to the lakeside if weather permits.Breakfasts were largely buffet style with everything you could wish for almost ,except fish. Various omelettes and eggs were also cooked for you to order. Evening meals were all waiter service and menu was very varied but sometimes a little disappointing. Service was always excellent and friendly. Externally, the hotel has it's own private promenade, clusters of shaded seating, a pool and loungers and jacuzzi and a separate pool cafe and sun deck. There is also a wellbeing centre and massage facilities and a hairdressers. Everywhere there is a profusion of flowers and palm trees.just outside the hotel complex is a nice square and shops and other cafes and restaurants and the booking office and landing stage for the regular boats that serve the lakeside communities. Very convenient.
This hotel is now rather dated and in need of an upgrade. The communal areas are nice, especially the bar area and adjacent lounge, but the breakfast room is huge and the quality of the breakfasts was poor for a hotel of this stature. A lot of the guests seem to like the hotel because they offer a half board package and provide post dining evening entertainment with a musician. Understandably, this suits some guests. The hotel has 2 dining rooms, one of which is a la carte dining and the other has a menu at €55 per person; but neither inspired us. For want of a little effort there are some very good restaurants in the surrounding area ( but unsurprisingly is is best to avoid direct lake side). The rooms. Again, these need upgrading. Worst of all for us were the creaky wooden floors in the bedroom. If anyone needs to use the bathroom during the night, you will almost certainly wake your partner! Wifi in the room is quite good, there is also a mini bar / fridge but no tea or coffee making facilities. Another plus is that the hotel is conveniently right next to one of the lake ferry stops. If you come by car, the parking is €14 per day!
Great hotel and fantastic location, the room was superb and kept beautifully by our maid with clean sheets daily. The lounge and bar areas were excellent and the staff friendly, efficient and polite. We stayed on half board basis, which I do not recommend, the food at dinner was quite hit and miss. Some of the main course veg were really undercooked and generally not of a . quality expected of a hotel of this standard. We were very disappointed when the dress code in the dining room at dinner of long trousers for men was ignored by one guest and when this was pointed out to the restaurant Manager he made the excuse that that guest had had a bereavement a few years ago. Not acceptable, if the guest can dress in shorts, why can he not dress in trousers. Is it one rule for some and different rules for others. Disgusted by that. Everyone else were dressed appropriately. It is not fot the discretion of the manager to make the decision.
We came here for a restful holiday but we also wanted to be able to take some excursions without the need of a car. This hotel is a lovely 'Grand' hotel in its truest sense. All our hopes were fulfilled. Thank you Grand Hotel Gardone!
