This hotel is truly the grandeur of the early 20th century kept alive for decades now. The service was really very good and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The wheather was outstanding, the lake refreshing! We booked a corner junior suite room which I would strongly recommend
Grand in every aspect, junior suite with balcony provided a wonderful view across the lake. Breakfast on the terrace was very good quality and wide range of choices. My wife and I wouldn't hesitate to return. Immediately next to the hotel is the ferry terminal which gave very easy access to all routes across the lake. The hotel staff were helpful and polite and a la carte dining in the select restaurant was most enjoyable
It had been a long time ambition to stay at this hotel so was thrilled to be allocated here as part of a cruise and stay holiday and the experience most certainly did not disappoint. The hotel is grand in proportions, a very long building with large function rooms and bedrooms all decorated and furnished in period style. There is a sense of faded grandeur but this is all part of the ambience and history of the place. The setting right on the lakeside with beautiful terraces and an abundance of flowering plants, along with a well kept swimming pool was just idyllic. Our bedroom was huge, well equipped and clean and the bathroom included both a shower and a bath. There is a turn down service complete with chocolate on the pillow at night time. The views from the window and balcony (complete with table and chairs) across the lake were a pleasure to wake up to or to sit and watch the sunset. On arrival and departure porters take your cases to/from your room to your transport and this is just the beginning of the wonderful service received from the staff. The staff on reception are knowledgeable and helpful as regards to local transport services, places to visit etc and the service received in the restaurant was impeccable. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and with a wide choice at the breakfast buffet, salad, cheese, bread and dessert bar the evening meal. The menu in the a la carte restaurant also looked delicious. There was live music in the bar in the evenings and newspapers in several languages provided in the lounge which was a relaxing spot to while away some time. The pool and jacuzzi were still operational even though it was October and there were plenty of sunbeds available to use. Drinks in the bar were expensive but there were bars just a few steps away along the promenade and a lake ferry stop right next to the hotel. Across the road and up the hill a short distance were the pretty village centre, botanical gardens and il Vittoriale so very central to all attractions. The only minus point I can think of is that the lift is very old, small and slow! This is a historic hotel which has seen various uses during wartime and has welcomed many famous people including Winston Churchill, there is a very interesting book about its history available to purchase at reception. Would definitely love to return in the future
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights, the hotel went beyond our expectations, after reading some bad reviews I was a little unsure what the hotel would be like but it was great, the food was good and the room was clean, the room could do with a spruce up but the decor was in keeping with the olde world style of the hotel. I would definitely stay again if I visited the area in the future. Would totally recommend.
As already reviewed, we also stayed here after a cruise and it certainly made the holiday, i was in the pool about 40 mins after arriving, it was chilly but not bad it was a lovely sunny afternoon and I really enjoyed the swim the views. The views from our room were amazing I opened the curtains on arrival and just said WOW! The food was good and as already said good choices and buffet salads cheeses and sweets all excellent. Breakfast was good too. The drinks were expensive but we coped the hotel made up for it, we listened to the singers in the evening the first night the second we walked along the promenade and had a couple of drinks in a café very busy with people from the hotel. The third night we found a little Bistro with a lovely owner and staff who made us very welcome for just drinks. We would love to go back so that we could explore the area more. Possibly staying in the Grand a gorgeous hotel with lovely staff and food.
Stayed here following a 7 night med cruise with transfer from Genoa. Check in quick and easy as our details had already been provided by the booking agent to the hotel in advance. Room was fantastic and on the 3rd floor with two balconies and wonderful views across the lake. Hugh walk in shower and room had a large tv on the wall, plenty of wardrobe space and mini bar. The large bed was very comfortable with turn down service at night. Windows had roller shutters as well as curtains. WiFi good. We stayed on a half board basis and the dinning room was very grand with the option to sit inside or in the covered area outside for the evening meal. Menu displayed outside the restaurant daily with a choice of starters and main meal plus you could help yourself to salads, breads, cheeses and desserts which were lovely. Service excellent. Drinks pricey as previously stated by others but if you had a bottle of wine it was labelled and ready at your table the next day. Large bottle of water was 4 euros. Breakfast was self service but you could order an omelette which was very nice. The usual continental selection available with lovely cakes and breads. Cappuccino very good. Staff polite and friendly. The lift was very small and claustrophobic but you are not in it very long. Lovely areas within the hotel to sit. Pool looked very inviting but unfortunately the weather wasn’t and we were unable to use it. It was the end of the season and the hotel was closing after we had stayed for 3 days. This resulted in many of the nearby bars and restaurants already closed which left very little to do at night. There was a couple playing/singing in the bar each night and they were very good. Ferry just next to the hotel but winter timetable was a little restricted. Tour company had arranged a lake cruise which we enjoyed very much visiting Sirmione, Lasize and Garda. We also took the bus to nearby Salo which cost just over 5 euros return and took around 10 minutes. Lovely promenade with plenty of restaurants shops etc. We walked from the hotel to The Vittoriale where you can visit the gardens, monuments and the Priory. We only walked round the gardens which are immense and well worth the 8 euro fee just to see the Royal Ship Puglia within the grounds. Views would be amazing had it not been so misty. Overall a beautiful place with charm and charisma that lives up to its name The Grand! Hope to return to this area again when the weather is better and would love to stay here if the budget allowed. Thank you for a lovely stay
A very grand hotel overlooking Lake Garda steeped in history a favourite of Winston Churchill. Huge rooms each with a balcony overlooking the lake. Food here is exquisite and the staff are fantastic always ready to help. A beautiful front terrace with pool to relax and enjoy the weather. A five star hotel.
We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. Beautiful superior balcony room, overlooking the lake. What a view! Plenty of plugs, in the room, bed was the best bed I had slept in, and fast internet. Breakfast was plentiful and we had booked an evening meal each night which was superb. We had a different choice of menu every evening. Just watch the drinks prices though as a little on the steep side. We arrived a week or so before the hotel was due to close for the winter, so there weren't any trips available, but we were able to get around ourselves by making use of the ferry service which goes from outside the hotel. The hotel can also arrange taxis if needed. Staff were very attentive and helpful. I will definitely go there again.
Booked through CITALIA who were also excellent. Great hotel. Luxury all the way. Love to stay again. No complaints at all. Everyone was very nice and helpful. View from room to lake was great. Pool area was clean and lots of sun beds.
So it's an old hotel, with old decor, but service and meals were just excellent! Amazing views of Lake Garda from the hotel frontage and from our balcony. Just go there to relax and be spoiled. A room overlooking the lake is a real bonus...and late September was lovely and warm without being too hot.
