We checked in late and were given a room on the ground floor. I have to say it is beautiful and surpassed anything I expected for the price we paid. We got a room facing the garden, so that means gorgeous foliage facing our living room and master bedroom, and direct access to the pool! Even though the grounds outside our suite are common, the suite is tucked away into its own corner by the heavy foliage so you don’t feel like there’s an intrusion of privacy. Still, I’m sure some people would be uncomfortable leaving their doors open at night. There’s a glass door and a net door, you can open the glass down and lock the net door to prevent bugs from coming in. The rooms themselves are spacious and tastefully furnished. Bamboo furniture and accents where possible, good lighting in every room. Kitchen is fully equipped with utensils, microwave, full oven, full size fridge, hot water pot and even a slow cooker! Salt, pepper, sugar and creamer and Hawaiian coffee bags provided. Even paper towels are provided! Every room has a ceiling fan and bedrooms have an additional standing fan each, but you do need to open the doors or the air will be hot no matter how cool it is outside. I’m posting some pictures here. Beautiful place. There’s even a linen closet full of towels, and washer and dryer in each unit.

It's a good place. Clean, quiet, and depending on room there are good views. Nice staff. We were in room 405. There were excellent views from our balcony - posted. For those who criticize no AC and the decor: There are ceiling and floor fans, plus Maui has excellent trade winds that help with cooling; Re decor: I've stayed in vacation condos on all of the Hawaiian islands - many look like the set of The Golden Girls, so just go with it and have fun - the furniture is comfy and the units have everything you need. Plus, the ABC store with deli is just down the road - super convient. A beach is just down the road as well, and it's close (by car) to all that Lahaina has to offer. Some said there were bugs, we saw no bugs. The room was very clean and housekeeping did and excellent job. Mahalo, Soliel Management. We'd stay again.

The place sucks. OLD property in need of lots of TLC. Our rate was $4,255.36 for 11 nights for a 2-bedroom which turned out to be NOT an oceanview. The building is positioned at an angle not friendly at all to ocean views. The management, Donna, knows she has a stinker of a property on her hands to try to keep afloat. I felt bad for her when we left after the first night there. Rented a condo literally two doors down right on the ocean, parallel to the water, could throw a stone to the drink. Just gorgeous with sea turtles swimming out front daily! My wife and I have taken our children to over 40 different countries, been to Maui four times. I don't usually write bad reviews but I feel that it's my fiduciary duty to warn fellow vacation seekers about this property. What a heaping pile, Hono Koa Vacation Club is. Run! There are so many other fantastic choices on Maui which is a safe favorite of ours.

We traded with Interval International and our home resort was a Interval Premier Resort. Apparently Interval trades only get the units closest to the road (farthest from the ocean). We were disappointed in what we got with the Hona Koa. Office staff were not friendly or helpful. The unit itself if old and outdated. The garbage cabinet smelled like old garbage from the first day. Kitchen was well stocked with dishes, so we didn't need to run dishwasher after every meal - which was good. Kitchen cabinets, coaches, chairs and beds were very dated. Pool was so cold you could not swim in it. No other amenities at resort besides pool, hot tub and 2 BBQ grills. Was in a good location near beaches, shopping, and restaurants.

Old, old, old furniture. Bad washer/would not complete wash cycle every time. Bed was so saggy in master. Couch was so bad. Chairs lost any cushion. Sands of Kahana updated all their units/4buildings. This Hono Koa DESPERATELY NEEDS TO GET NEW FURNITURE AND WASHER AND KING MATTRESS. VIEW WAS NOT GOOD. You hear every word from those in the hot tub. No water access. A disappointed stay at this Hono Koa.

We stayed here when visiting Maui. As other reviewers have stated, this is an older resort that needs updating and is currently under repair (minor). That said, the location is perfect and our view was incredible. I should say that we used RCI points so that fact that we were not "out of pocket" any cash to stay there was a tad more palatable. The people in the front office were wonderful, very friendly. Our room was a 2 bedroom with full kitchen and lanai. The kitchen had everything we needed. Day one, the coffee maker broke and they replaced it in record time. Had an issue with one toilet, fixed immediately. Something to be said for their attentiveness. For us, it was perfect. Since we were out enjoying the island most of the time, this was the perfect place to go back to at the end of each day. When we travel, we tend to spend less on the hotel as we don't spend much time there. For folks with kids, it has all that you need and a very nice pool. There is no beach here but they have a sister hotel down the street that you can go to with a beach. We did that one day but hanging by our own pool was just as good. Again, location is key and it was close to everything we wanted to do. Unless you are used to the 4 Seasons, this place is fine.

The west ocean front of this resort is under construction repairs. This was caused from the ocean waves over the years. There is noise everyday from equipment running. The crew works very hard and are courtious. The workers start 8:00am and usually are cleaned up and done by 4pm. This repair is necessary to the future the resort.

Needs updating, Just changing out the couch and chair covers would make a huge difference , as well as the bed coverings. The cuboards, where dishes are smell musty and old. Condo of a good size, just 2 larger bedrooms and baths. Pool is very small and with the construction of the sea wall there is no place to sit and look at the ocean which is why we came to maui.. Sister property a mile up the road is available but when you want the convenience of being in your resort It's not good. Would not stay here again.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is construction going on, retaining wall is under repair so there is no beach access. The pool was way too cold to use, brrrr. The condo was adequate, comfortable. Upon arrival, we encountered roaches in our unit and were immediately moved to a different condo which was nice. Furniture could use some updating. There are no on site activities or amenities which would have been nice. We were not aware of the mother-resort where all of the amenities were available. We found out about it on our last day. The unit provided all of the necessities and was comfortable.

Our unit was in desperate need of an upgrade. Furniture was old and worn out, appliances and fixtures outdated, flooring in need of repair, paint chipping off of kitchen cupboards etc. Construction problems outside were ongoing and very noisy.
