My wife and I did not see any bed bugs but my back will testify that our bed was infested! The bites did not start to show until the end of our stay. During checkout, I informed the front desk of the problem. They were very unsympathetic and said they would check the room. We would not stay there again!
We were not aware of the lack of air conditioning when we made our plans. It was 87 and sleeping was impossible with windows open and a lot of outside noise. The pool needed skimming of a lot of debris but it was a welcome respite to the heat. There is a lot of traffic noise from the street since your windows are open all might it will interfere with a good night's sleep. Due to construction, there is no ocean front area to enjoy. Roomy condos with well stocked kitchens can be so much better.
Our stay was good. The weather was extremely warm and humid during our stay. The unit was very nice with the 4xception of the clothes dryer venting into the second bedroom made things uncomfortable for sleeping. Other than that, it was a pleasurable stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would recommend others to stay at this property.
We have traveled all over the world and stayed at well over a hundred condos in 70 countries. This had to be our worst experience and all because of one person at the front desk. We noted on our second day that the pool hours were from 9 AM until 10 PM. We usually like to get out on the lounge chairs around 8 AM, lie in the cooler early morning sun, go in for a dip about 9AM and then spend the rest of the day exploring wherever we are. We mentioned to the pool attendant that we would be at the pool area before 9 but would not use the pool before 9 AM. He had no problem with this. While discussing other things I happened to mention to the front desk that we would be at the lounge chairs by around 8 but would not be using the pool. She rudely informed me that, in consideration for the other guests and their quiet privacy, the lounge chairs were not available until 9. When I tried to reason with her she threatened to call security. In my 70 years this is a first!!! My wife had also tried to communicate with her but she eventually just walked away in frustration. We knew when we booked that there would be construction in progress. The noise from the jackhammers, dump trucks and workers started every day at 8AM. While we have no complaints about the construction noise as we knew of this in advance, we could not see how us lying on lounge chairs would be more of a concern to the other visitors than the construction racket. The jack hammer was in use within about 15-20 yards of the pool! Neither I or my wife have ever been talked to by staff in such a rude and confrontational manner as we were over this silly little matter. The rest of the staff have been very nice, the unit is older and dated but large, very clean and well equipped. The mid week cleaning went beyond expectations. The location is OK. What could have been a great experience was ruined by one rude and confrontational person on the front desk. Keep looking. All our other stays on Maui have been wonderful.
Unit in good location and had plenty of room. Kitchen well stocked Bedding comfortable. Could be updated on furniture. Need to have room air conditioning at least in the bedroom Very difficult to get sleep. Would not advise staying here in ummer
Not a good first impression with a huge dirty laundry cart sitting right out in parking lot when we arrived. Elevator was filthy. Condo wa sock but no air condition! Hot, stuffy and blinds clanked at night. Outdoor security lights right outside windows. Sleeping was awful. Not a relaxing experience. Definitely would not return.
Hona Koa is a great small resort if you want to get away from crowds. (27 units only). It is well maintained and has a friendly staff. Only on site ammenity is a pool. They have a sister resort 1 mail away that they share facilities with. No beach access at the resort but resort 2 doors down allows public access daylight hours. Snorkeled out front and had an amazing encounter with a green sea turtle. It swm right up to within a foot of my face. Swam with it for 5 minutes. All within sight of our condo. Spent a great 10 days at this resort.
We checked in late and were given a room on the ground floor. I have to say it is beautiful and surpassed anything I expected for the price we paid. We got a room facing the garden, so that means gorgeous foliage facing our living room and master bedroom, and direct access to the pool! Even though the grounds outside our suite are common, the suite is tucked away into its own corner by the heavy foliage so you don’t feel like there’s an intrusion of privacy. Still, I’m sure some people would be uncomfortable leaving their doors open at night. There’s a glass door and a net door, you can open the glass down and lock the net door to prevent bugs from coming in. The rooms themselves are spacious and tastefully furnished. Bamboo furniture and accents where possible, good lighting in every room. Kitchen is fully equipped with utensils, microwave, full oven, full size fridge, hot water pot and even a slow cooker! Salt, pepper, sugar and creamer and Hawaiian coffee bags provided. Even paper towels are provided! Every room has a ceiling fan and bedrooms have an additional standing fan each, but you do need to open the doors or the air will be hot no matter how cool it is outside. I’m posting some pictures here. Beautiful place. There’s even a linen closet full of towels, and washer and dryer in each unit.
It's a good place. Clean, quiet, and depending on room there are good views. Nice staff. We were in room 405. There were excellent views from our balcony - posted. For those who criticize no AC and the decor: There are ceiling and floor fans, plus Maui has excellent trade winds that help with cooling; Re decor: I've stayed in vacation condos on all of the Hawaiian islands - many look like the set of The Golden Girls, so just go with it and have fun - the furniture is comfy and the units have everything you need. Plus, the ABC store with deli is just down the road - super convient. A beach is just down the road as well, and it's close (by car) to all that Lahaina has to offer. Some said there were bugs, we saw no bugs. The room was very clean and housekeeping did and excellent job. Mahalo, Soliel Management. We'd stay again.
The place sucks. OLD property in need of lots of TLC. Our rate was $4,255.36 for 11 nights for a 2-bedroom which turned out to be NOT an oceanview. The building is positioned at an angle not friendly at all to ocean views. The management, Donna, knows she has a stinker of a property on her hands to try to keep afloat. I felt bad for her when we left after the first night there. Rented a condo literally two doors down right on the ocean, parallel to the water, could throw a stone to the drink. Just gorgeous with sea turtles swimming out front daily! My wife and I have taken our children to over 40 different countries, been to Maui four times. I don't usually write bad reviews but I feel that it's my fiduciary duty to warn fellow vacation seekers about this property. What a heaping pile, Hono Koa Vacation Club is. Run! There are so many other fantastic choices on Maui which is a safe favorite of ours.
