Being my second time stay at this hotel, I found the second stay better. During the first, I was denied the free breakfast that came with my booking. I made this an issue while booking my next reservation and I believe the message was passed because my stay came with it's free breakfast for the 2 nights. The omelette and sausage were nice. Despite arriving very late due to a delayed flight (I arrived to check-in at 2am), I found an alert receptionist and a wakeful kitchen. The door on my bathroom had come off it's hinges and this wasn't fixed till I left. Ventilation and heating work fine, and bedding was comfortable.
This is a good hotel, it is just a correct hotel, located in lagos island, in a quiet although very neglected area, the neighborhood is very unattended and has no class. The hotel is in a dead end street, has security at the door, the staff is quite friendly. Price 8000 naira a night in economy room, which includes: tv with satétile, air conditioning, hot water, comfortable bed and in general a correct room although a little left and with unpainted walls. The hotel restaurant seems to be the best, the pasta very bin cooked and the dishes very large and economical. For my right, but nothing suitable for business.
Despite the title, overall I had a very good stay and a pleasant experience. I would easily return if I have the need to be in the Marina area again. The Good: Nice location if you need to be in Marina area and close to VI, Lekki etc...as long as you aren't traveling during rush hour you can get around to these areas fairly quickly. If you get caught in the notorious Lagos traffic it can take over an hour to get somewhere that's literally 10 minutes away. The hotel itself is off Broad Street and a bit difficult to find because it sits on an alley-like side street. Once inside however, the lobby and hotel is self is nicely appointed and clean. Security is tight as there is a guard or two around 24/7. We stayed for close to three weeks so we got to know the hotel well. The staff is friendly and courteous and very helpful for the most part. The rooms are clean and nicely appointed. A little rough around the edges and can use some updates/preventative maintenance/paint here and there but overall, decent. Consistent power with no major outages. Sometimes they switch from generator to national grid but we were never without power for more than 10 minutes. We had steaming hot water and didn't have to wait for it to heat up more than 20 seconds or so. So by Lagos standards, it was great. Wifi was steady and a decent signal. Could not stream video but other web surfing/email was just fine. I had one issue with the connection but someone from "IT" came right up and took care of it. The Bad: Room service was SLOOOOW. The food, once you got it was very good but the wait time was horrible. Even when we went down to the restaurant it took a very long time to get food and quite a few times our orders were wrong or mixed up. Staff was easy to work with in order to get things corrected but it's a headache to have to bring up some issue every time you place an order. Also, double check your receipt as we were over charged a couple times. Housekeeping was good but we got sheets that were old and discolored looking a few times. They were that grayish color that white turns to once it has been washed/used too much and just needs to be replaced. We got stuck in the elevator a couple times, but maintenance was prompt to get us out. The "satellite" or cable is poor with only 3-4 channels worth watching. We either had to watch news or Hip TV and a couple of movie channels with no good movies most of the time b/c no other channels came in clearly. The Ugly: ROACHES. Yes, roaches. This was almost a deal breaker for us. When we first checked-in, one of the employees accompanied us to the room we were assigned to, as soon as we opened the door and turned on the lights we saw 4-5 roaches/bugs scattering around on the floor. We immediately raised an issue. The employee went back downstairs and came back with another room key. I was skeptical and considered checking out but we had already paid for the room online and it was late. The 2nd room was clean and we saw no roaches or bugs anywhere or scattering around so we decided to stay. However, a couple nights into our stay I saw one roach crawling on the wall. We called down to complain. The next day the entire hotel was fumigated, so although it was not pleasant I give them credit for getting on top of it. We had to leave the room for a couple hours while they completed the treatment. When we came back someone from housekeeping came and re-cleaned the room. I did see one or two more roaches during our stay but nothing that I would consider an infestation. This is something they should monitor closely if they want to keep guests coming. As I said, overall my stay was good. The atmosphere was pleasant, good customer services and food. I would recommend.
