We love this place. Been there the second time. Great location, many activities for the kids right outside the door, different restaurants and a grocery store right there, child care, awesome skate/bike/scooter park
The location is great and the children enjoyed the free facilities in the children's park. The apartment was well well organised and had everything we needed. It is not a hotel, it is a self-catering apartment. No-one cleans the rooms or changes the towels, it is very very strange in this respect. If you have a family, then the cleaning products and toilet rolls supplied will not last and you have to buy your own. There is a small pool on site but you have to pay extra, you have to pay extra for parking - but this is Switzerland so just expect to pay extra for everything. There is a supermarket on site and a bakery and they are good but overpriced, especially Volg. A cheaper supermarket is down the road at the garage and better again in Stenna in Flims. Access to the mountains is easy to Crap Sion Gion via the cable car which runs every 30 minutes from 9 AM. There are plenty of walks starting from this location.
We found this hotel at hotel.com as an offer for the night as we just needed a fast sleep over on our way through Switzerland. The price was just under 200 € which is quite normal for a medium hotel for a night and everything looked good and they advertised with five restaurants and three bars to choose between and there was aircondition in the rooms which was what we were looking for as we just wanted to eat and sleep and move on our journey. As we arrived we found out that you have to pay 20€ for the parking, 25€ Per person for a towel and a sheet and finally 140€ for cleaning the room which added up to a total of 260€ ekstra which was way more than the price for the room it self!!!! We also found out that the pool, fitnessroom, sauna is 30€ ekstra per person and breakfast is 20€ per person and the kids club is off cause ekstra. All in all expect somewhere between 500-1000 € per day for a stay at this hotel outside the season when most things is closed. All the restaurants and bars was closed except for one restaurant and one smal bar, so we could not choose and we went to the only restaurant open and the food was actually fine except for the flie in our daughters soup, which we often has joked about, but never has experienced before! We came back to a very hot room and there was no airconditioning, so I did’nt get much sleep that night and when I told theme in the morning, they just said to me that I could have borrowed a mobile airconditioning in the reception! The only reason they get two stars is that the had electrical chargers for our EV in the basement which was very nice. In my opinion this hotel is a cash cow and I won’t recoment it (hopefully it is better in the skiing season) as almost nothing is open and there are only few people there and it is very expensive and very hot in the summer.
The appartment was very good, with an awesome view. I recommend it, but be aware of hidden expenses. The final cleaning is not included and costs 185 CHF (162 EUR), and we were not informed about it..
Apartment; Light in daytime; dark at night. Liquid soap/shower gel/shampoo combo; no body lotion. In room sauna/shower/tub combo. Hair dryer. Large room safe. In unit controlled heated floors 24/7; Kitchenette; Exercise and parking extra. Relatively well noise insulated – minimal outside noise unless a band is in the courtyard area then (at least if you are facing the courtyard – it’s moderately loud – most of the time it is not too painful, but in the very obvious/annoying level – however at least once it was loud enough that the windows were actually rattling – and apparently there is nothing the resort can do anything about it (at least according to the front desk). Ski lockers are included – spacious and the boot holders are heated – so you get nice warm boots in the morning! Walking distance to slopes, restaurants, bakery, and grocery store. Covered parking (extra charge)
We stayed at the rocksresort in Laax on a skiing holiday as part of a package through Ski Safari. We flew to Zurich from London and took two trains to Chur then a 81 PostAuto bus to the rocksresort, a 50min journey (2.5h in total from Zurich airport). The rocksresort is effectively the apartment block annex of the Signina Hotel. There are a number of identical 3 story blocks (we were in “G”) with 2 bedroom apartments, lounge/kitchen areas, toilet and separate shower/steam bath. The good: • modern apartment stocked with crockery, cutlery, pots, pans, oil, salt & pepper, baking tray and (only one sheet of) baking foil and a coffee press. • steam bath - definitely the highlight. A steam room (steam on/off optional) wet room with rain shower. • clean apartment • bin bags, dustpan & brush, washing up liquid and cleaning brush • shower gel/shampoo and hand soap provided • very close (2min) walk to the complimentary locker room and large basement car park for those who want it. • lots of restaurants near by • very good lockers for skis, helmets and boots • Signina do offer games room complimentary for kids with PS3 etc. Bad: • all facilities in the Signina have to be paid for e.g. to use the swimming pool CHF30 each! • bath robes (for the steam bath) are an extra CHF5 each, which is pretty lame • they tried to charge me CHF5 for extra pillows but didn’t tell me at the time • bins have to be emptied by guests and bo cleaning service during stay so no linen changes - all these have to be paid for and are extra • restaurants all quite expensive but not necessarily different to other resorts • staff a little inexperienced and don’t always tell about things you have access to or facilities in Laax • Flims definitely more happening with more to do • No apres ski at Signina Decent place but we won’t be staying here again.
If you are looking for a full week of serious skiing with a family, this is certainly one of the prime places to consider. While you feel the strong influence of the "Weisse Arena" company also managing the rocksresort, this comes with quite some advantages. Everything is thought through, from parking your car underneath the resort at arrival, to modern and practical apartments, ski school, food shopping/restaurants, easy access to the skiing area itself. Everything is in a range of 1-2 minutes by foot.
A skiing resort in LAAX as its best. Great modern and spacious rooms with lots of comfort. We did stay for a relaxing and sportive week. Booking possibilities from Sunday to Sunday - would love to have alternative days of the week. Is this a helpful review? The skiing is great, but lets face it, the weather is out of our control. What is nice about Falera-Laax-Flims is that they have ample trails at all elevations and excellent snow making facilities. We had plenty of natural snow so skiing was perfect. The resort will want to up sell you lots of “conveniences” but you may not need them all. We will review some of them here. As for the accommodation, we rented a 3 bedroom apartment. The facilities are excellent! Everything is well thought out in the apartment. We highly recommend! Excellent! What they don’t tell you... Internet - it doesn’t work. Read other reviews and you will see the same complaint. Laundry - there are only 3 washing machines of the entire resort and no laundries in the neighboring towns. We found this a bit cheeky. The brochure says that below your building on the parking level is the laundry. What they don’t say is that there is only one for the entire resort. They lead you to believe there is one per building. 3 machines for a thousand skiers. Considering there are no other options we found this extremely disappointing! Food - we were sold a food plan “Dine Around”. Much like a cruise ship, you have 5 restaurants to choose from. During our 10 day stay we found that we only really ate at 3 because the better ones had taken reservations well in advance. We had only pre-reserved a few nights before arrival, as we like some spontaneity. If you don’t mind pre planing all of your meals well in advance of your stay, then this will not be a problem. We also found staff who had problems with the new iPad order taking process and with the Dine Around experience. We would tell them at the beginning that we were Dine Around guests and they would often forget. The RockResort is a business model like that of a Cruise ship. Lots of young employees from far off lands, will little customer service experience. They all work together to clear tables, and get the job done, but in the end the customer feels like a number... just another punter. There isn’t one waiter assigned to several tables. As a result, they cannot keep track of the last time you have been attended. Some staff even complained to us about the system. Bars - Years ago, this resort had a great vibe. The Crap bar was THE place to start your Après Ski. Today, the bars all lacked energy, and there was little in terms of music etc. Over our 10 day stay, we didn’t find one bar we’d enjoyed after dinner. It was DEAD! We found much better nightlife in Flims. Funny because back in the day, Flims was the quite upper class cousin of Laax. Now it is alive with nightlife. This is a shame because if you have purchased the Dine Around, you are less likely to go to Flims for a fun evening. In our experience as long as you reserve a day or two in advance you can get into the two or three lower/cheaper restaurants, so you do not need the dine around. So why come here? Because it is still Swiss and has great runs! Because it is not Zermatt, St Moritz, etc., which are crowded with skiers, many of whom are novice. Laax is a place for Skiers and Boarders, who know what they are doing. We think that if the Management can move it’s focus from factory customer “management” and create a culture of “Customer Care”, then the overall experience would be greatly improved.
The rooms at the resort are exactly what someone needs, especially at the age 25-40. The access to the lift is next door and it can be also underground in case of very cold or snow. My only concern the hours shops and restaurants are open (same problem all over the country I guess). Very good experience over all!!
