This hotel is centric and basically ok for a night stay. There is definately an urgent need to change the matresses and unfortunately this hotel is not a quiet one; you can hear everything and everyone. The hotel restaurant is not bad.
Love the open-air lobby, reminds me of Hawaiian hotels; nice atrium, too Location quiet and convenient, just a couple blocks from all the stores, restaurants; supermarket very close by Friendly and helpful staff, for booking transportation, tours, etc. Room was clean, comfortable; safe requires an old-fashioned key + deposit; we didn't bother, since it looked like it also needed batteries Comes with access to pools at 2 nearby hostels, that worked well
I was actually supposed to stay at Arenal Hostel Resort but when i arrived they had told me that they had overbooked the hotel so they would be sending me to their sister hotel La Fortuna Hotel. They told me this was a better hotel so that i would be getting a better deal since i would be paying the same and if I wanted they can cancel the reservation and i can stay elsewhere. There weren’t any good or affordable reservations so last minute. Also it was no upgrade; the first room they offered me had 2 twin beds instead of double beds and had no windows! Then when i complained i was moved into a room with double beds and with a view of the volcano. The wifi was bad on the top floor, the lock on the door did not work very well, you can use the pool at Arenal Hostel Resort (where I had originally reserved) but had to walk 4 blocks to use it. The rooms are noisy at night, walls are paper thin and you can hear all the noise from the outside. The good parts was the location, it was pretty close to everything, the included breakfast was good and the restaurant prices were good in comparison to other places.
Pros: Great location Wi-Fi was free, strong Lobby ceiling was really neat Staff was kind Elevator worked (when power wasn’t out) Cons: - MOLD AND MILDEW -Ants got in our bags and sealed food -Holes in sheets -Room not ready upon arrival -Lock on door did not work after many trips to lobby someone came up to work on it. He had to break IN to the room by climbing through the interior window. He was very sweet, and in our room for an hour trying to fix the lock. Door was open and let all cold air out of room. Requested another room and was told could not move us. - power went out twice - and then there was no running water in the entire hotel for about an hour. - men’s underwear found under bed (from previous guest - coffee pot not cleaned out and had used, wet coffee in it. Still had coffee in a mug on table from prior guest.... not ours) - Very loud. Full of kids. Open concept - can see to the lobby from fifth floor. So all sound goes up as well. - bar area was closed at 930 (maybe earlier) was told to go to Salina hostel across the street for a beer / ice. - THREE OF US HAD A ROOM WITH NO EXTERIOR WINDOW. - no mattress pad on mattress EXPERIENCE more or less ruined our time in La Fortuna.
I recently stayed with a group of my students here. There was a major mold problem. The open areas and the rooms had evidence of mold. Normal drywall cannot handle the humidity. No idea what type of mold but did not look good.
Convenient location in town. Hotel was adequate and rates were inexpensive. Staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. Pretty basic rooms but all in all a good value. Was also nice there was a laundry with drop off service across the street.
Clean-looking room for the first blink but when you look around better you will find mildew everywhere. I asked for another room but I was offered another moldy one. After that, a third moldy one so I just gave up. I requested that they would clean up the mildew properly because I am allergic to it but that never happened.
We stayed 4 nights here. The location of the hotel was easy to find, it is located in the city center, restaurants and supermarkets are in walking distance. The breakfast we had was great and especially fresh. Staffs were very friendly and provided us with helpfull information during our stay. I would highly recommend it.
So for the money, it has everything you need. But the ladies at the front desk aren’t very smart/helpful, there isn’t a phone in the room and the shower overflowed so badly it went into the room and under the bed! This was when we realized there wasn’t a phone in the room. Had to walk down to the front desk where they handed us a single towel and said not to turn both nobs on while showering. Ugh. The food for dinner was gross, breakfast was just okay. I’d stay somewhere else if I came back
Although not the most luxurious, rooms are clean, staff is KNOWLEDGEABLE and helpful, location is great, and restaurant/bar create an atmosphere of camaraderie and relaxation. Plus the views of Arenal from the room are amazing!!
