Place was beautiful! Got a whole villa to ourselves! Place has lots of potential but your feet away from La Fortuna waterfall. Breakfast is free and amazing. The people are so nice and treat you like you are family at this location. I will definitely come back! They even know English!
This place has real potential, however, it’s ran down and needs some TLC. If you don’t mind that the breakfast is great and the views and surrounding area are beautiful on a clear day. You will need a car to get into town but you can walk it in just over an hour. We struggled to get Uber’s to pick us up from the hotel but were fine getting them from town back to the hotel. The staff here are very accommodating and kind. Very close to the waterfall which is well worth a visit. Rooms are fine, they have tea and coffee facilities and air conditioning. However, we had mould on the walls and a mouldy lampshade. The room itself felt damp to be in and the bathroom whilst clean again smelt of bad damp. The rooms and hotel itself need a real revamp as even when you walk around the area, there are empty run down buildings.
A nice quice place on the side of Arenal in the clouds; we could see for miles. Felt like we had the resort to ourselves; staff was nice and helpful. If you want to do nothing be chill..this can be your place.
We loved our 3 night stay at Greenlagoon...it wasn’t that busy so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. Breakfast every morning was to die for (our favorite breakfast during our 7 day stay) the pancakes were the best me and my boyfriend have ever tasted! The staff was even nice enough to give us the recipe, and they were vegan!!! We were so close to LaFortuna Waterfall we walked there. This resort was close enough to town but far enough up the mountain to feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere (in a good way) if you like to be in nature and don’t mind some bugs, then this place is for you! The staff were all so friendly and happy to help in any way! My GoPro needed so TLC and the staff was eager to help me, and when they couldn’t, they directed me to town to a local shop that fixed it for free! Out of the 3 places we visited in Costa Rica, La Fortuna was our favorite. They locals were all so friendly, and we didn’t get any bad vibes anywhere in the area. Thanks again for an amazing stay! We will see you soon Greenlagoon
I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff, food, juice, and atmosphere at Green Lagoon Well-being Resort. Wildlife around every corner, healthy, delicious meals, and staff that go out of their way to make you feel at home. On site, and included, is a gorgeous trail taking you up Chato Volcano through the rainforest. Breathtaking... The entrance to La Fortuna waterfall is a 10 minute walk from the resort. Also a must do! Another surprise was that a 15 minute drive and you can be at the Tabacon hot springs. This blissful resort is just what we needed. Relaxation like I’ve never felt before. So thankful for our visit. Thank you Green Lagoon💚
I love the La Fortuna area and being away from hectic city life. The staff and breakfasts were great. The room was ok, it was clean but dated and in need of upgrades. The road leading up to the hotel really needs to be maintained better and the hotel grounds could be amazing if updated. The area is superb, nature and hiking surrounds the entire hotel. I’d love to stay here again, already planning my next trip back but, I hope they do some updates by then, if not I’ll opt for a newer or renovated place next time.
Let me start by saying the Villa was amazing!!!!!! It is huge and has an enourmous walk in shower and tub that generously fits 2 people in every bedroom. When they took us to the Villa we thought it was a lodge and we had part of it, nope the entire thing was ours! It has a washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, coffee pot, blender, dishes, etc. Glass doors and windows everywhere...so clean I actually did walk right into a closed door! Lol! People were very nice. Now the negatives, we rented this huge Villa just for the private pool and when we checked in at 5:30pm (had reservations for months ahead of time) they were draining it and said "it is cleaning day" we said ok, how long till we can use it. They said maybe 4 to 6 hours. After they cleaned it, it was being filled by a small leaky hose that at 10:30pm at night we could sit in the stairs inside the pool and not get wet! The next morning it was finally full with the hose running all night. We go out and it is filled with tadpoles and freezing cold. We went to the front desk and the gentleman apologized, bought our dinner from the night before and sent the pool guys twice a day to clean the pool. This was very nice and accomodating except it was not very sunny days and the pool NEVER warmed up! We never got to use the pool at all! Also, if you rent this Villa it is up the hill quite a ways and unless you want to hike to breakfast every morning a car would be a plus. Luckily we had one. The food at the resort is very good, but the menu is limited. If you eat many days there you will run out of new things to try, but it is all great and the people are super kind. We also got massages that they brought the tables up to our Villa and we got them outside on our private patio which was amazing! One more minus, and I am sure it is not anyone's fault, but the bugs! Wow are they big....every night I went to my bedroom I did a full screening of the room to make sure I had no unwanted visitors with broom in hand to smash all the bugs...ewwww!
WORST STAY EVER!!! The just day we got there we went into the jacuzzi and one of the worker tired on the water jets when the jets weren’t even covered by the water. All of a sudden scorching hot water hits both my legs! Gave me second and third degree burns. We were supposed to have massages that evening but due to the pain I was in we ask the front desk to cancel them because of what just happened. We didn’t get one I’m sorry, how are you doing, is there anything we can do, we got NOTHING!! Any yet they were still upset that we had two cancel. We were there for 3 days never did they come check up on us. I would never recommend this awful place to anyone!
We didn’t get to our room until 9:30 after traveling all day. It was right up the hill from La Fortuna Waterfall. The driveway/road from the waterfall to the hotel is really bad. The little car we had, I was curious if it was going to make it! Our room was clean & comfortable. The only issue that we had was there is no TV. Being off the beaten path, and the sun going down around 6pm every night, there wasn’t much to do after dark. We went to bed early every night, & got up early every morning. We only had breakfast there the first morning. I’m not saying it was bad, but it didn’t fit my taste. (I can be rather picky). My girlfriend liked her pancakes though. The first day, we hiked up Cerro Chato. That trail is now closed, but you can still access it & go around the barb wire. We hiked 2 miles up the volcano through the jungle. It was a very difficult hike! We got all the way to the top, about to go down to the lake in the volcano, and there was rangers there that turned us away! The hike was still worth it, we just wished we could’ve swam, or at least got a picture of the lake. There is a restaurant here that we didn’t eat at except the one breakfast. We got in the hot tub one night, which was good, but we didn’t spend a whole lot of time here other than sleeping. I would come back and recommend if you want a relaxing, early night place to stay.
I will most definitely return to this resort. It had countless hiking trails, several species of colorful birds right outside my suite, and scenic views from the mountain overlooking the valley. They upgraded my room and I was given a suite that was amazing! I have never stayed in a hotel/resort so marvelous. The suite had all glass windows and you could see the mountains, hear the birds and other nocturnal creatures. It was like being in a forest which was landscaped. Also it is only few steps to the La Fortuna waterfall which in itself was a magical experience. The property is landscaped beautifully with trees and flowers and while I was there it felt like I was in a heavenly realm. :) I would most definitely recommend this resort to anyone without any reservations.
