THE ARENAL REGION AND LOCAL ACIVITIES: The region of Arenal, Costa Rica centers itself around Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano. Located approximately 14 miles outside of La Fortuna, a popular tourist town, the charming Village of El Castillo awaits you with everything you need to enjoy luxury and relaxation and still see the 'real' Costa Rica. Part of the Arenal area and El Castillo charm is that it is country atmosphere and not highly industrialized. Water systems are natural streams from the rain forest above the town which feed tanks that provide water to the town. Due to the lack of population, the electricial system is old school and satisfies the requirements most of the time. From time to time water valves can fail and the electrical system can go down and it, sometimes, can take a day or two to manage repairs. Although tucked away and private, Castillo is also home to The Butterfly Conservatory, Snake Zoo, The National Park Arenal 1968, and a diverse selection of restaurants. If action and adventure are what you are looking for, Sky Trek, the largest zip line over the Canopy in Costa Rica as well as hanging bridges and sky tram, are located right in our village! There are horseback tours to scenic waterfalls, or kayaking on the lake. There are also repelling and many organized nature hikes and tours that center around the volcano. If you like to push yourself, there are also off road bicycle tours in the hills around El Castillo as well as guided hiking tours through the rain forest. In and on the way to La Fortuna you can find White Water Rafting, a number of hot springs pools facilities, ATV tours, and many other adventures. After your exciting days of adventure you can leave the fast pace of tourism and go back to your home in El Castillo, traveling through tunnels of rain forest and the beautiful countryside in and around the beautiful village of El Castillo. There you can relax and listen to the Howler Monkeys and enjoy a leisurely dinner and sit outside (or inside) and enjoy the pleasant breezes all the while relaxing in a tropical forest, enjoying the wonderful view, the wildlife and the quiet country atmosphere. After a wonderful night's sleep in the comfort of custom made beds and orthopedic mattresses, you will awaken to the singing of hundreds of different species of birds and in the background, the howler monkeys sing their own morning song. Just a short walk across the street you will find a beautiful river for your swimming enjoyment and there are several local waterfalls that can be accessed by horse or hike A bird watchers' paradise and a relaxing retreat for nature lovers young and old. Villa Millon is the place to go when you want to get off the beaten path of tourism and explore.

Also the WAZE App for your cell phone works very well. When you pick up your car, enter La Fortuna and select the police station as your destination in your GPS router. Go west out of La Fortuna entering El Castillo as your destination in your GPS router. Upon arriving in El Castillo turn left through the village proper and continue up the hill approximately 1km. There are two stone pillars at the end of the drive holding a gate to the property on the right.
DIRECTIONS TO EL CASTILLO FROM LA FORTUNA:
When you get to La Fortuna go west through the town and pass Tabacon on your right, then go a few more miles (about 4) until you see a tiny little police station on your right..you will take a left there onto a dirt road. Go 3 or 4 miles until you get to an intersection (T) where you must take a left or right. You will see a lot of signs directing you to different places in El Castillo. You will take a left. Go another few miles until you go over a small bridge and take your next right...at more signs. Keep going straight. You will pass the Sky Trek and continue to follow the road for a few miles, keep driving until you go over another small bridge. The first left after this bridge is the entrance to our village. Go through the village proper and then up the hill and you will pass the Serpentarium, then the Butterfly Conservatory (the house is approximately 600 meters from here)..continue going up and you will see Essence Arenal on the right. You will pass two streets on your right and then your house is the 6th house on the right. There are two stone pillars at the end of the drive holding a gate to the property. Please call us when you arrive in La Fortuna and either myself or our caretaker will meet you there. If for some reason we miss each other there will be a key in a combination lockbox.

We had such a great time here! Me and my two sons with a great family friend and his two sons loved the property. We were apprehensive at first when we discovered there was no AC, but opening windows that had screens along with the ceiling fans, the night really cooled off nicely. Erika, the local concierge, was very sweet and answered all of our questions. She even brought up a personal poker set for us to use at night!

The house was clean, spacious and extremely comfortable. There's an unbelievably beautiful view of the volcano when the weather is clear. We loved the lush greenery all around the house and the music of the songbirds in the morning. We had a delightful stay!

Thank you for a magical stay. The pics online don't do it justice. It is on top of a beautiful hill overlooking the volcano and lake. Everything inside is wooden and beautiful. You wake up in the morning to the sound of song birds. Incredible location. The road getting there is a big tough so I would suggest arriving when it's still daylight. Highly recommend this place

This house is beautiful! We enjoyed just hanging out and relaxing. Plenty of restaurants nearby. We visited the Arenal Observatory and had a great time taking the beautiful hikes. Ericka was sweet and stopped to check on us. We especially loved getting up and seeing all the different birds. Would love to cone back.

This home is absolutely beautiful, the yard was full of lush plants and has a beautiful view of Arenal Volcano. The house was easy to find, but it’s definitely 25 minute drive outside of La Fortuna. If you want to be away from the crazy tourism but still close to all the amenities this is the place for you.The hose could have used more dishes, towels an essentials to make the stay a little easier. Also not noted on the add was that the walls to to two bedrooms and bathroom do not extend to the ceiling, making it less private for multiple couples and better for a family. Overall this house was amazing. Highly recommend.

The property has a beautiful of Mt Arenal, and a nice surrounding. That is about the only good experience we had of the property. When we checked in, the linen was soiled, toilet flush and window blinds were broken. There was a bat inside the property that flew into the fan in the middle of the night and dropped on our bed. We tried to be understanding to all of that during our four days stay, until the last day when water was shut off. We contacted the owner to ask for us to leave one day early with refund due to the lack of water, but her response was "I can go 2-3 days without water" and "I have no control of the people that I hired to manage the property". We ended up leaving after explaining to her that we can put up with a lot, but the basic necessity of water is something we shouldn't be expected to go without. The owner was rude and unaccommodating. I would not recommend this property to anyone.
Villa Millon is the name of the property, and is a complete house in the vicinity of Arenal Mountain. You need a car to move around because there is a lot of activities but they are at least 15 minutes away.

Great place to stay if you’re staying in Arenal area. Great views. Limited privacy in front 2 bedrooms. Driveway is a little tight and slippery when wet but it’s nice to be able to get the car out of the street.

This beautiful unique house is in a wonderful country setting. I had my morning coffee on the gazebo while a horse watched me. The area restaurants were very good and either walkable or a short drive. We also enjoyed water activities on the nearby lake.

This place was perfect for our family of 4. We had plenty of room to spread out with two teenage boys. The location was easy to drive to many excursions and restaurants. Seeing the Arenal Volcano from the front porch area every morning was so beautiful and serene. Ericka was very good at communicating with us every step of the way. We all enjoyed our trip to Costa Rica.

Amazing Location but Lacking Privacy Inside
Place was super clean and location was amazing. Short walk to town and to activities. Only issue was that the 2 bedrooms inside plus the bathroom had walls that do not go all the way to the ceiling. So you get privacy but no privacy from noise. Everyone can hear you in the bathroom and the 2 front bedrooms you can hear everything. If anyone gets up early or stays up late, this impacts everyone. I would not stay again due to this unless it was just with 2 people in the back master bedroom.
