A new and very nicely designed spacious hotel that is a pleasure to be in. Room was large and comfortable with a voluminous bathroom and good powerful shower. Bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows and air con controllable and silent. One drawback was the floor to ceiling window did not open, a big detractor for me. Nice touches were welcome snacks and an excellent restaurant where we enjoyed delicious huevos con patatas with padron peppers and a goats cheese salad. Very friendly staff rounded off a great stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at NH. It's a little bit of a walk from historic center, but was a nice modern escape from the heat. Breakfast was excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. Would stay again.
We stayed here two nights while on a Gate 1 Travel trip. The hotel is located next to a university in a park-like setting with a lake across the street. To walk into the old city you have to trudge up a semi-steep sidewalk then walk on the flat for another 10 minutes. All in all not bad if you are a decent walker. The NH Collection is a modern hotel, well kept and clean. Our room was of good size with comfortable beds. And quiet. Wifi was good. There was a safe. The folks who manned the breakfast room were eager to please and did a good job. The breakfast itself was ok. There was no problem getting change for larger Euros at the front desk..
We have stayed in NHs for most of our trip as we generally like their hotels. This one was an exception. Like all NHs the rooms are well equipped with the basics plus a few extras like the Nespresso machine, bathrobes etc. Rooms in this hotel are dated. Not sure why it is in the luxury collection as it is exactly like the other hotels not in the luxury collection. Plus there is nothing luxurious about it! We had a large room. Our first room was not clean so we asked to change it. The second room was clean. Hotel is a 15 min walk from the centre and what we liked least was the sterile nature of the hotel and its location. It really feels like a convention centre. Staff we encountered were unhelpful and indifferent. They fail to tell you that all the parking outside the hotel (and within the complex) is free, instead they direct you to the hotel garage which charges a fee. What irritated us the most is that we made a mistake with our booking and needed to shorten our stay by one day. I had pre paid the booking and it clearly stated the terms, so acknowledge the issue is mine and not the hotel's. However, I asked if they could refund us the one night and got a flat "no". All the other NHs ( who we also had pre paid bookings with) changed it for us. There was zero attempt to do anything - not even a complimentary glass of wine. We had breakfast in the town and there are plenty of options available. Although the hotel is a bit of a walk from the main area and it is a fairly desolate walk at night as the only people around are hotel guests - it is perfectly safe. Next time will choose a hotel with a better location and ambience.
As you'd expect from this type of hotel, it was clean, spacious and well equipped. The staff were polite and professional. Parking was easy (a free space outside the hotel). The breakfast buffet was extensive. The hotel is situated just outside the old town, but if you are happy to walk 15-20 minutes uphill, it is no problem. Our only issue was with the air conditioning on the first night. It did not cool and made for a broken night's sleep. However, this was raised in the morning and fixed for our second night.
My wife, two friends and I stayed here last weekend for the last night of our Camino Portugues trip, having walked from Porto over 4 days (about 240Km). What a lovely place this was to finish our trip! Rooms were spacious and cool, with an excellent quality TV (4k?) and good wifi. Tea/coffee facilities are provided in room, along with a minibar which had sufficient room for us to place our own water bottles inside. Beds were VERY comfy, bathrooms had everything you might need including good powerful showers and hairdryers. There were both indoor and outdoor pools, however, as there was a wedding scheduled to take place in the area poolside, we could only use the outdoor pool for a short period (about 40 minutes) before we had to return to our rooms. Breakfast the following morning was a sumptious affair with a variert of juices and freshly made smoothies (delicious!), a selection of local cheese and meats, a multitude of breaks and pastries, cereals, yoghurts, fancy coffee machines and some delicious pan o chocolate. I wish we had more time to spend on breakfast, but we had a plane to catch so could only spend 45 minutes there (I could have continued feasting for another 20 minutes at least!). If you want a place to finish your Camino and don't mind the walk back into town (must be about 1.2Km or 15 minutes away), then this place comes highly recommended! A well deserved 5 stars!
I would like to clarify this review by stating that I always try to look for somthing positive to say, but in this case I have failed. This hotel claims to be a five star establishment, which it is not! The hotel is vast and faceless and is geared to large groups on short visits. The common areas look tired and shabby. There are dirty rugs in the main lobby, in front of the most hideous seating I have ever seen. The restaurant was like eating in a vast canteen and the food was just adequate. The only saving grace was our lovely table server named Mercedes, who would have benefitted from a pair of roller skates! The room we had was passable, but by no means 5*. The outside pool had approximately 8 sun-loungers, with no extras available anywhere and nobody to ask for help. We had previously spent 4 nights at the truly 5* hotel Nagari in Vigo, and the contrast between the two was stark. Big is not always, if ever, beautiful. I would avoid this hotel at all costs.
This modern hotel has all the amenities you would expect from a 5* hotel, including a good gym, indoor and outdoor pools and a sauna. Welcoming staff who speak good English and are ready to deal with any problem. On our arrival we asked for a room looking towards the old city and after a bit of juggling about we were shown a good room on the 3rd floor. Good tea/coffee facilities in the room, (with welcoming fruit) and with the usual mini bar, and free bottles of water restocked every day. Breakfast was good but I would have liked to have known that I could have had any type of cooked egg offered instead of the warm scrambled egg on display. Likewise it would have been better to have tea/coffee offered by the waiting staff, instead of the hot water and t bag option. Good selection of fruit and cereals/cheeses/cold meats.
15 min., 0.4 mile? Walking distance to the cathedral and restaurants. Rooms are modern. indoor pool. (out door pool too). hotel restaurant exceeded expectations at one dinner. buffet breakfast good; included regional food samples
This was the last hotel on a tour of northern Spain. It is a strange layout for an Hotel but we did enjoy the stay. Breakfast was very good. this was the case in all the hotels we stayed at. There is a wide variety of choice. we had a meal in the restaurant as part of the tour but it was bland. Other quests having from the menu looked a lot better. There was 2 other groups in at the same night and staff were short of numbers. besides serving meals they were also bar staff. you had to press a button at the bar which must have send a signal to the restaurant for one of the staff to come over. The bar and reception is large. It is a bit of a walk to the city but we did every day twice. There is a taxi rank just as you leave the city on the route back and we considered taking a taxi back if we got too tired. I think this was the best hotel of the tour.
