We were looking for a place that was affordable and central to our visit. This hotel was comfortable and the staff was friendly. We only stayed one night. Kyle is a tough place to find a restaurant after hours so plan ahead.
If can't get a hotel on the isle of Skye then this place is an alternative. The facade puts you off a bit and the bar reminds you of old fashioned club, but the rooms are okay, the beds are comfortable and clean. It is good value for money and the breakfast is a good standard too.
Our room was quite good, and had plenty of room. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. The restaurant was the venue for breakfast, and was suitable, but the service and some of the food was ordinary.
The staff were very helpful. The evening meal was perfectly fine. But I felt that the price paid was way over the top for this hotel. Small room, had to leave suitcase on the dressing table as nowhere to put it and had to leave toilet bag on bathroom floor as space was tight. No hair dryer. Woken up at 6.00 a.m. with lots of people departing - exit door to car park was just outside our room. As it was a fire door it banged each time someone exited.
We stayed here on our way to Isle of Harris in July. the public areas are in need of refurbishment and are looking a bit shabby but the rooms are bright, clean and comfortable, I could have stayed longer. The staff are friendly and helpful (not so much the breakfast staff) and we had a lovely evening meal in the bar (they had reserved us a table) Lovely location ideal as a base for exploring and plenty of parking. Unfortunately, the family room is above the bar so a bit noisy at the weekend! It is quite expensive for a 3 star hotel but it is the same for all the accommodation in the town... I notice there are some bad reviews about the decor but it's 3 star hotel so not sure what anyone is expecting! Would I stay there again? Yes!
After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor for the Kyle Hotel, we were very nervous about our two night stay. Nevertheless, we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. We can now say that our stay was not horrible, but there were a few aspects that were less than average. If we could have, we would have given exactly 2.5/5 for this hotel. What was good: - staff were friendly and helpful - good location to explore the Isle of Skye (about 1 hour drive to Portree) - close to a fantastic restaurant (The Waterfront) - fairly quiet - basic rooms with everything you need (except a hair dryer, but you can ask for one at the front desk) - free wifi - fairly clean - breakfast was included and was decent - parking around the back, decent sized lot What was less than average: - the beds and pillows were very uncomfortable and not supportive (we are in our late 20s) - the price: out of 7 hotels we stayed at in Scotland, this was the second most expensive and in our opinion, would be more understandable if the stay were cheaper - the bathroom had a very strong perfume smell that I didn't particularly like - corridors are very narrow, so if you do have noisy neighbours you hear everything (we were lucky and it was fairly quiet) Overall, the stay was average and fine for two nights. The hotel is definitely tired and in need of lots of updates, but it is safe and pretty clean.
I stayed in room 30 and honestly if I had a tent I would have used it, the place is nearing to be demolished. The room smelled of dampness, it was worn out in need of re decoration. there was no cup in the room for tea, the carpet in the corridor was all worn out and scrunched up leaving tripping hazards - you cannot get a breakfast before 730am so it doesn't accommodate for the early riser - the hotel needs some real investment.
Reviews did not fill us with enthusiasm. But, in truth, it was comfortable, staff efficient, breakfast good. Let's face it, Kyle is no holiday resort, but as a base to visit Skye, or a side trip to the NC 500, perfectly adequate. So...no complaints from us.
There seems to be lack of a choice in Kyle, so we were pleasantly surprised at the hotel. It is shabby and needs renovating, but the staff were very helpful. The breakfast was average. It was just a place to stay for 1 night.
The guest rooms need to a total restoration. We had requested a king size bed and we got two twin sized beds pushed together with no mattress padding, just a sheet to seperate us from the mattress. Room walls were painted so pink it hurt your eyes. Shower stall was too small for an adult of average size. We parked in the back of the hotel right where the overflowing dumpsters were. I don't recommend this hotel to anyone. The establishment really need to close the place and have a total restoration.
