Great hotel great stuff but problem on the lack of variety of breakfast and dinner buffet. They used to have the best breakfast of all Hiltons I have been both local and international but now it's so poor
It was my third stay and the hotel is great and the staff most helpful. most the rooms are comfortable and the food for the first two days great but after then they become monotonous. I then use the Ernie els restuarant for bit of variety
I booked into the Hilton in Durban. The check in process was efficient and professional. My key card was generated which enabled me to access the wifi service which is reasonably fast. My room was a business deluxe room. It was very spacious and modern. The bathroom was ultra modern but the shower area was quite small. The room did not have complimentary still water. One has to use the mini bar to drink water which is very uncharacteristic of a five star hotel. And mini bar contents are very expensive... Breakfast consists of the usual hot and cold items, a good range to satisfy all tastes. I was amazed at the experience; a near altercation between a waiter and waitress, asking three different staff before getting honey. There were clearly team issues in the restaurant. Nonetheless, breakfast was satisfying. The hotel is in the centre of town, about 1.5 km from North Beach. I would not recommend walking to the beach at night from a safety perspective.
This was s good hotel, pretty central. Felt like staff were a bit too pushy to help at times, not sure if it was genuine or just for the tip. Petrus at Big Easy was amazing. Facilities were nice with a good fitness centre and small pool. A lot of hallways, certain areas could use some TLC as it was rundown in areas
Stayed here for two nights over a weekend and next time will choose one of the hotels in the Umhlanga area. Seems that the hotel has upgraded the internet because it was working just fine during my stay. The speed was very good to be honest. Complimentary water bottles were missing from the room that should have been there based on my Hilton Honors Diamond status. Hotel had placed a half bottle of red wine as an amenity that I left unopened. The desk chain inside the room is about the most uncomfortable I have come across in a business hotel. You cannot adjust the height or the position. Complete garbage. I was having a nap in the Saturday afternoon when someone from the hotel spa called trying to sell their massage and other services. Not sure if they have some kind of prostitution ring run from their. Highly inappropriate to disturb guests. Wanted to report this to a manager on duty on Saturday afternoon but was told that they don't have MOD working on Saturdays. Ridiculous! Had a word with front desk supervisor on Friday in the club lounge about potential upgrade beyond club room and was promised a suite for Saturday night. Told that I was going to be out and about for most day and they could just move my stuff. Nothing was done. Next time when in Durban area I would rather stay in Umhlanga area than downtown.
Nice Experience overall. Will definitely consider this hotel in the near future. The team was also very impressed as some of them were in Durban for the first time. Food in the restaurants was well prepared and very tasty
If you HAVE to stay in Durban avoid the beleaguered hotels on the dirty, depressing waterfront, which is infested by harassing vagrants. Rather choose the Hilton, conveniently located within a few minutes of the beach more contemporary than the strip of waterfront hotels. PROS: Rooms are well appointed with SMART TV's and decent bandwidth WiFi. They feel modern and edgy. Minibar can be emptied by staff on arrival avoiding a surprise bill run up by kids. CONS: and this IS A BIG ONE!!!!! For a hotel that bears this label and charges what they do, the bathrooms are a disgrace!!!!!!!! In what is a solid 4* establishment, the bathrooms are barely 3* quality!!! The minor touches are what separates the leaders from the pack. this hotel lacks those.....a coffee machine in the gym would be good; magazines or reading material in the lobby (especially given that there isn't a paperstand close to the hotel). A games room for kids etc Also: the fact that they charge for parking is scandalous. Guests should receive a parking voucher as they do at similar hotels in other cities.
I stayed for 1 night in September. The renovated rooms and restaurants are fantastic. The service was also very good. Be sure to try the Big Easy restaurant, I enjoyed a great lunch there. The business lounge also had a great breakfast. I would recommend this hotel by day!
Pretty good hotel in the downtown of Durban. It is true that it is a old hotel, but you dont have to be worried about it. It is well equiped and the staff is very nice and helpfull. If you are spending a day in this city, I would total y recommend this hotel to you
Best hotel by far in Durban. This hotel provides easy access to the all main of Durban and close to the amenities that one would need. The hotel provides the state of art room, conferencing, restaurant and bar facilities. The staff are very courteous to guest needs and would always make you feel extremely welcome at all times. In nutshell given this wonderful experience of staying at this hotel , I should every time I visit Durban stay at this hotel
