This was the most unpleasant experience, I am sure the hotel taking the service I experienced will do nothing. The staff are rude my work place booked here although the staff had a voucher no because they did not have a hard copy gave me beans not helpful insisted I try and get a hard copy these things are done by agents even though I showed them the voucher on the iPad they were very very impolite. The rooms are stuffy and don’t look clean mine had moths and yes baby cockroaches totally disgusting. Breakfast due to renovations are in a conference room where the smell of citronella threatens to knock you out the breakfast is inedible. I could not eat from Lack of salt to too much salt to the sausages having a terrible taste and smell. The inconvenience of being in a meeting room. Thank god this is one night never to return.

Excellent comfortable rooms and lovely friendly staff will be the best memories I take away with me. Unfortunately there is a lot of renovation work going on at the present time and hence the restaurant is closed and you can only get take-away food delivered in the evenings.Drilling and other noise spoils the experience of sitting by the pool too at the current time. However the breakfast is still excellent - a large buffet spread put on in the Conference area each morning between 6.30 and 9.30 am. As no-one informed me of the renovation work when booking I have an overall feeling of disappointment as I wanted a place with a decent restaurant for my week long stay as I don't feel safe going out in the evenings in Durban. The prices don't appear to have been modified to allow for the lack of restaurant facilities at the current time either. All that said the location is perfect if you have come to watch cricket at Kingsmead. You are stationed half way between the ground and the beach. I hope next time when I come back there will be an excellent restaurant to welcome me. My advice would be to check the state of progress with the renovation programme before booking.

The restaurant is really terrible. I tweeted a couple of times, but no response. Here's my tweets: -Paid R110 for a curry which isn't enough to fill me. When I asked for extra rice, I was told no. Eating out tomorrow night. -Also, I had to go and fetch my own menu and order my own drink after being seated and then not served for 15min -And they have no custard for Malva pudding. -To top it off, apple crumble is not "crumbly", like in the description in the menu. It's a soft mush. It's not apple crumble at all. The service was awful and they refused to give me extra rice when I got a tiny portion and was still hungry. I'm pretty sure everything was microwaved too .

These City Lodges are always a pleasure. Clean, friendly, safe with a good restaurant & guarded parking, all at a reasonable cost. One can book a stay there and be sure of comfort, friendly staff & fair prices.

Booked a one night stay for my family of 4 (2 young kids, so requested a sleeper couch). Due to our flight being delayed, we arrived very late at night. I carried a sleeping toddler in my arms, while my husband and 8year old daughter struggled to carry all of our luggage. Staff didn’t even attempt to help my daughter, even though it was VERY clear that she was struggling. In fact, didn’t even acknowledge our presence until my husband stood at the desk. On arrival in room, the sleeper couch was not opened, and no linen was provided. Had to phone reception and ask for everything. Ended up making the bed ourselves, after the security guard was sent to the room with some linen!!!

We stayed for the weekend. We booked two double rooms. The rooms were clean. It was generally a pleasant stay..close to the ICC and the Beach. The lodge is centrally located in the Durban city centre close to all places of interest. Will definitely come back for another stay.

I found myself in less than average self-catering accommodation in Durban central and asked for my money back and booked a place at the City Lodge Hotel in Durban. I had a very good stay at the place. It is close to the Durban ICC and the beachfront area. Uber costs R20 so that was nice. The hotel room was clean and intimate. They did not have a double or queen size bed which is a problem if you ate a couple having to sleep on two single beds. The TV had most primary channels and the bathroom was excellently clean. The staff at the front desk was very helpful even when I checked out they kept my luggage as my flight was the evening so I had did not have walk around durban with hand luggage. The restaurant and bar closed a bit early leaving you with almost no option of food or drinks. I'd surely stay there again.

Fast check inn . Had a noise issue in the ceiling . But they moved us without hesitation . Also accommodated my pregnant wife by putting us on the ground. level . Overall good hotel and helpful staff. Nice and quiet and no issues .

Room was fine but aircon noisy and in the middle of the night had a rat scurry onto the bed and as it approached my face I batted it off the bed. Called the Manager and the Security guard arrived but could not do anything, so we searched to room but it had gone. I could not sleep again. In he morning it was treated as insignificant and when asked about whether they have vermin control, answered vaguely, so that was rather disappointing. The breakfast was really good. I think the cost is excessive for the quality of accommodation. The food is good as is the catering service.

Check in was quick and easy with the friendly and helpful reception staff. In fact all staff I encountered, whether in dining or housekeeping were lovely. The room itself is spacious neat and clean, with a very comfy bed giving a good night's sleep. Breakfast selection is huge and very well prepared. The only thing I didn't like was rowdy guests in passages and that I could hear shouting in the room above me at 2am. To be expected I guess over July weekend. Perhaps the hotel could put up signs over big event weekends in the passages, saying "please be considerate of other guests"? This would have been an otherwise perfect stay and excellent value for money.
