Check in at this hotel took place quickly and efficiently. As a solo traveller, I was given a double bed room. It had everything that I needed. Wifi was free, but the signal to this room on the fifth floor was sometimes quite poor. The room was air conditioned, but, as the room faced the hot western sun, it was not cool enough, even with adjustment. I purchased the evening buffet meal, which had plenty of choice and was enjoyable. The buffet breakfast had many choices, including a blender for making one's own fruit drink. The staff for the eeevening and morning meals were helpful and welcoming. I enjoyed staying at this hotel.
When we arrived at 4pm though our rooms were not ready, we booked for 4, they expected 3. Rooms booked as Superior but they are very basic virtually no power points, not even a plug to fill the basin for a shave!!!!! Hopefully things will improve but I would only give this 2*
Some weeks ago we booked hotel Astoria for 2 nights, we payed immediately. During our ride to the hotel (so at the arrival date) we received an email. Hotel Astoria was unfortunately not available, we were relocated to another hotel of the OHM group, Hotel Bristol all under the same conditions. I beg your pardon? We answered this email, explaining that this situation sounded kind of ridiculous, especially because we even paid for the room already. But staying at hotel Bristol under the same conditions was the only possibility. While checking in at hotel Bristol we again told that we simply didn't book this hotel. The lady at the reception declared us that it was always a problem with bookings coming from booking.com. Like it was our mistake to book the room at booking.com. We are one hundred percent sure that if we were a little les assertive they wouldn't even think of offering a free drink. Eventually after complaining at the reception we were offered a junior suite for the last night. A fine solution, but next time offer this already on your email. Both the standard room and the junior suite were just fine. Location is perfect, right in the centre of Opatija. My apologies for reviewing Hotel Astoria even though we stayed in Hotel Bristol, but this was the hotel we booked.
This hotel has a reasonable modern feel and good-sized rooms, with a good wifi service. However there is very limited parking - which you have to book in advance - and the nearest public garage is over 200 metres away along a busy road. We did not know this and spent sometime driving around the town again after finding the hotel. The parking is also not ideal if you have lots of luggage and do not have someone to guard over it while you park. This busy road and a row of imposing hotels separate the hotel from the sea, so that the only sea view rooms are on the top floors. The breakfast had a good selection and in good weather may be eaten on the outside terrace. However one day our breakfast was interrupted for 20 minutes by the local dustcart, which parked below the terrace with its engine running so that there were loud irregular bangs for the whole of this period. Not fun!
From the first minute everything went wrong. Despite on parking request receptionist decided not to provide parking place (I saw free places) . She gave piece of paper with public garage and I had to spend 1 hour to find it and 15 euro per day. Then on the room I found that no sockets next to bed, and almost all were broken. You have to leave phones and gadgets on the floor near the toilet . Carpet in the hall has red stains
The hotel is very conveniently located. It looks very new & modern without being tacky. The public front balcony is very comfortable to sit on, but you have to buy a drink to sit out there in the evening (maybe even all day). Breakfast was terrific, they had fresh eggs & a juicer. The room was comfortable, ample closet space or area to leave things on the floor. The room needed more plugs (available only in the bathroom, under the desk, or by unplugging something like the tv). You'll notice there isn't a clock in the room. That's because when you take the key out of the slot to go out all of the electricity in the room goes out - except the mini fridge (?). So don't count on leaving your electronics there to charge. But it's great that the hotel cares about the earth! The AC gets cool but not cold; the staff told us to turn it to 5C & maximum fan. The staff was VERY kind, friendly, helpful, accommodating. We bought some food from the grocery store & the staff gave us dishes, silverware, & glasses; but they did ask us not to eat on the front balcony. Over all I do recommend this place. It's not too fancy, it's clean & nice, you can have a larger room or smaller, & everyone was super kind.
The Astoria is a well-located hotel in Opatije. It has a 4-star rating but the room we had was fairly spartan. I would give this hotel a 3 to 3.5 star rating. The hotel does have a lovely dining terrace and the buffet dinner was good. The staff at the hotel was also pleasant and helpful.
We found this hotel to be quaint but a bit downtrodden. The air conditioning is VERY POOR; barely works. The location is decent; especially for public beach access. The rooms are very small but have nice windows. The breakfast was good. The desk manager was very helpful but we had friends who changed rooms due to a problem with the room and were forced to pack and move their bags themselves.
Nothing really good and nothing really bad. Basic room that gives you a bed, desk, closet, and bath. Design was more contemporary. Food buffet was ok but not exceptional. We did both dinner and breakfast. Nice location convenient to the walkways by the sea.
Stayed here April 18 to April 20th. Unfortunately for us, there was a cold front that moved in during our time, so the weather was pretty cold. The rooms were very comfortable and warm!! There was a daily breakfast that was included with the price of the room. The breakfast was a very big buffet with both hot and cold choices. Lots of beverages and a juicer. The staff was the shining star of this hotel. The main desk employees were very helpful with day trip ideas, pharmacies, and telephone calls when needed. So happy we found this place! The only down side would be the parking was a bit of a problem, but we usually found a place........
