Pleasantness of the staff really compensates the lack of everything that this hotel does not have. There is almost no lobby and any other space to spend time at. The food is tasteless and that is truly strange considering the area. Room was clean with a very comfortable bed.

Our small tour group stayed here for two nights. Very centrally located for easy walking to just about anywhere you want to go be it sightseeing or eating/drinking or shopping. The staff was attentive and the room was very good. My only issue with the room was what I called the ball of pain. It was a round "stopper" more than an inch in diameter located RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TOILET that kept the door from hitting it. Good idea in theory but stubbed my toe every time. I would suggest removing it and let the door hit the toilet!!! Would definitely recommend a room NOT on the main street as it can be very noisy. Fortunately mine was on the side and not too bad.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The Room was very good and comfortable, the breakfast was very good and the lunch delicious. The service was very nice and polite. Fine is the carpark very near to the hotel.

It was just one night stay. Nice and clean hotel. Frendly and proffesional staff. Great seaview Breakfast is top Love to drink coffee on the terrace in front of the hotel. I would like to come back again and it will be for sure.

From the reviews and the conversations with my tour mates, much of your experience wil depend on what room you get. Ours had soaring ceilings, between 15-18' high, with crown and decorative moldings and what looked like fresh paint. Definitely Old World European charm. We had a sitting area with a sofa and round table with two chairs, plus another chair at the desk. There was a small flatscreen TV and good internet access in the room. There was a safe and a frig, but no room in the frig for your own water bottle. There were some minor idiosyncrasies. The floor numbering is quite odd. When going to the ground floor in the elevator, you push RC. Our room, 86, was on -1 (no typo, it was -1). Old hotels have bathrooms with some downside. The half door on tub with shower means the floor always gets wet. There was a very old hairdryer with a hose that gets hot. The grout could use touching up, and the lights could use brighter bulbs. On the other hand, the bed was the most comfortable on our three week trip. The a/c was quiet and effective. Our room faced the street at the rear of the hotel, and we had no problem with noise. Breakfast is served in a charming dining room, in the most creative and attractive presentation of stations so everyone isn't crowded together. Food was equally as attractive and tasty. Their a la carte menu at dinner allowed us to have a lovely vegetable soup and delicious chicken and mushroom salad for about $15. Location is very convenient to the waterfront, and we took a wonderful stroll along the boardwalk.

Hotel Agava is in the center of Opatija on the main thoroughfare. Backed up to a park and surrounded by casual but upscale shops, restaurants, and bars, the hotel feels as if it has been transported from the French or Swiss Riviera. Without being pretentious, the hotel is elegant and comfortable with an accommodating, friendly staff. Our room was spacious with large windows, comfortable bed, in-room safe, and well-appointed bathroom. A small deli just off the lobby looked like an excellent place to put together a picnic lunch. The included breakfast was a feast with all kinds of hot and cold dishes, breads, pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereals, juice, coffee, and tea. Several recommended restaurants were just a few blocks from the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel to those traveling to Opatija who enjoy comfort and casual elegance.

We stayed one night while on tour. The room had very high ceiling, very nice balcony with flower boxes, table & chairs. The included breakfast was reasonable as was the service. The old building of this small hotel is very charming and it seems like the remodeling to convert it to a hotel did mostly accomplish the balance between old charm and modern accommodations. The bus entered the yard in the back so unloading was simple and didn't interfere with the traffic in front.

We stayed for 6 nights as part of a car tour - probably 5 nights too long. It was difficult to find as the hotel name wasn't obvious. Eventually when we did spot it by comparing a photo of it with surrounding buildings, We then discovered that the only way to unload our luggage was to stop outside the main entrance & cause a traffic jam. One of our group actually incurred a parking fine. The first room we were allocated was on the top floor with 2 narrow windows. It was like a prison! After asking to be moved we were fortunate to be moved to a much better room tho still affected by loud noise from traffic & the bar over the road. We were on half board basis & the food was 4 courses of very poor & boring food. After 4 evenings we asked if we could just have a plate of ham & cheese! Also if you got down after one of the coach tour groups all that was available were cold leftovers. There is no lounge area or garden. If you we wanted to meet up with our friends we had to sit in the bar area on uncomfortable chairs. If we wanted to sit outside the only option was to sit outside the front of the hotel by the busy road. Also if you have a car it has to be parked in a multi-storey car park off the next road - not very secure as not exclusive to hotel guests. On the plus side the staff were excellent. Shame about everything else!

A very difficult hotel to arrive at with luggage as you have to park a decent distance away. Comfortable bed. Very noisy bar directly opposite hotel. Reasonable breakfast Reasonable evening meals. Staff helpful,

we are shortly celebrating our 4oth wedding anniversary and returned to Croatia/ Jugoslavia, As it was when we first holidayed in this area. we spent a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. the food was first class, the staff made our stay.
