I have stayed here a couple of times, not my own choice. Unfortunately, I find this hotel to be below the standard I would expect from a hotel of the Taj group. The bathroom is in need of a complete refurbishment, the tables and furniture are almost sticky, I had to sanitise the telephone before use, with hairs and crumbs all over it. This hotel has great potential, but it will need quite a bit of reinvestment.
Very poor service. Staff at the front desk useless. Have posted a picture of the way housekeeping is done. Rooms are old, dark & shabby. This place can not be and should not be associated with the brand TAJ. It sets is a bad reputation to the brand TAJ group.
Stayed here twice, latest from 25 to 26th, March... Stayed in a fourth floor rooms.. Sea is slightly visible from the room at a far of distance.. cannot be strictly termed as sea view... Rooms size is adequate for a single person.. the bed is a queen size, may not be comfortable for family of 3. The rooms have some old furniture/curtain damp smell.. However, after AC, the smell goes off or may be we get used to it. The room has been maintained well and clean. Appreciate the efforts of the management in this regard. The service is top notch. The reception staff is very helpful and receptive. In fact, during my first stay they have upgrade me to a suite. The suite was quite large (2 standard rooms joined together) with bath tub in the bathroom. The breakfast was good and tasty, though the spread was limited. The swimming pool was neat and maintained well. Gym is small and has few equipments, including two treadmills. Didn't avail their spa. Overall, a decent stay. Request TAJ group to make efforts to upgrade or renovate the property to stay afloat.
Taj Gateway is our favorite place in Kozhikode, everything is great. It is located very close to the beach and to the center of the city. The rooms are well sized and well maintained. The service is outstanding with everyone there to help you in anyway possible and make it stay a pleasure. The food at the restaurant is just outstanding, both buffet and a-la-carte. They have a very good mix of local malabar/kerala specialities as well pan indian and continental food, all of which are carefully and tastefully prepared. I'd recommend going for the local flavors though as they have some very special items. Sometime they pamper you with special food, and the chef himself comes out and hand you a special. Really cannot think of any negatives, maybe just that the property is a lil old, and you could tell it, but they more than compensate that with everything else. We had an issue with the final bill, and as soon as i pointed it out they rectified it immediately. I will definitely keep coming back here next time as well.
This review is about a lunch experience at the Taj run Gateway Hotel on Beach Road. Excellent ambience and, as is the wont at higher end hotels in India, eager staff. The food though was a disappointment. I assume lunch is not the favorite meal of the day for folks who frequent the restaurant. Nevertheless for a restaurant in such a prime location, and under such management, it seems like a wasted opportunity. I would have rated this a four but for the fact that we were sweating in the sweltering heat and the staff didn't realize that the air conditioning was switched off despite repeated questions from us. The cauliflower appetizer was good. I cannot say anything nice about the chicken and ellayappam.
As a frequent traveler to Calicut for business purposes, the stay is usually the Gateway Hotel, Calicut. Its the perfect place to rest and unwind. I feel at home there. Everybody is warm, friendly and ready to help. The food is superb. The rooms are clean and its easy to feel good and sleep.
I traveled to Kozhikode along with my wife and our 10 month old daughter. I can’t say enough about the level of service we received from the entire staff. It’s a shame i don’t recollect all the names. Abinsha from the front desk, Chef Binu and a few other staff were, to say the least, very friendly and accommodating of us young parents’ requests. And we stayed over the New Years celebrations, and we had a great time. The property itself has aged and requires some work, but that wouldn’t stop me from staying in the very same hotel during my next visit. A heartfelt thanks to the entireGateway Calicut team.
Was there on two days in January for a conference, but had the chance to be having all meals including breakfast. Leaves the quality much to be desired. Very poor service even at the breakfast rooms. Little has changed since many of my previous visits in the last many years
What went well: The room was ok, and the sleep quality fairly good. What was not so good: The bathroom was the worst I have seen in a hotel. Dirty, pieces falling off. The service wasn't so great either. The buffet breakfast was merely passable.
I guess one of the best Taj where Tajness was at its best. And all its credit and applauds go to the staff there. We had lovely three days spent in the hotel. Truly relaxing. Got massages done, kids freaked out in the pool, watched TV ( watched padmavat also.... But it was a waste of time). Special thanks to Ms abhinsha, who did her best to make us feel special during our stay. I thank the staff for the cake also 😘😍 it was really sweet of them to give us a cake wish us belated anniversary. We went to kappad beach, Kozhikode beach , SM market and a flower show. All in all had good memorable time spent there.
