I came 17 of August. Receptionists were super kind.(not sure of name but two ladies at morning shift i guess) But shower room at swimming pool was.. terrible..... no key for locker.. no tower for shower room......(need to borrow from gym-kinda beach tower) We ask for high floor right side view and was good. Room is cozy and clean. But you need to call to housekeeping for shampoo things. We order room service twice, room service lady is so kind and cute. The thing is roomservice who pick up the phone(male) was poor in eng, bit rude. And we order steak as medium rare, but they made as super well-done...! For tour informations, No mini bar in the room, need to ask for make up room, Location is good, price is fare enough for 4 stars hotel..
The hotel is situated right in the heart of KK. Near to shopping malls, Water Front and and sea food market and other tourist attractions. There's no public transport passing on this hotel however grab car is very accessible. It will cost you less than 10 Ringgits going to Water front and seafood market roughly around 4-6 ringgits. The hotel room is big and spacious. Facilities are in good condition except for the AC is not that cooling well and the swimming pool is quite old and it closes at early as 7PM. Beddings are ok, clean and fresh. Buffet breakfast is just ok. Acceptable for the price you pay. The hotel staff are very helpful and accommodating. Our room was bit noisy because it was situated beside the stock room and when we complain about it, the staff transfer us immediately in the next available room. The room can accommodate 3 persons as there is a big sofa in each room. Overall stay was ok.
Most business travellers like me will rent a car to stay in Kota Kinabalu. The hotel has basement parking and the location is just the edge of heavy traffic area, so you wont be stuck in jam long time to reach there even in peak hours. Unlimited wifi is offered. The room is excellent too especially the size of room. Always be my first choice hotel when visited here.. Well done...
Over 4 months, I stayed here 5 times as it is my employer's nominated hotel. The staff were genuinely warm and friendly. The rooms and beds are clean but are awaiting renovations before rebranding as a Crystal Crown. I slept with an eye mask as 3 of the 5 rooms had a light that could not be switched off. If the shower does not work or run cold water, you could use the gym showers on 3rd floor. Be careful of the short flight of stairs to the pool as it is a death trap! There are many China tourists. Buffet breakfast is a decent spread and opens at 6.30am. But the egg station only start at about 7.10am or even after 8am. No hard boiled egg for your nasi lemak! I had to e-mail 5 times before being credited for a double charge on my credit card. I had to show "proof" of the double charge (which should be apparent from their records) and they did not apologise or even reply to my last 3 mails. The locals suggested staying at the many new hotels near the waterfront malls.
We were meeting friends and in transit so this place was okay, and taxi driver had no problems finding it and telling us where to find other things in the area. A little overpriced but the views aren't bad in the higher floors. Could have been a bit cleaner, like maybe time for a thorough carpet steam clean.
The building is aged but you can tell the staffs there are trying hard to maintain it as best as they can. But still some mold and dirt can't be removed in the bathroom, and don't know why there were some ants around the tap, didn't bother us though. Wifi wasn't working in the room, this annoys me the most, I had to stay in the corridor to browse the internet. Breakfast was tasty! A bit far from city centre, would suggest to take uber or taxi.
Few days ago was organising an event for my office together with colleague so we decided to choose SOH. Facilities was good, service provided just nice and the staff were very help and friendly. Although the location of the hotel are not-so-strategic but it only take about 3min to the heart of the city. Room rate was good as well.
Was really happy with the location. Not walking distance to the malls or the seafront stalls/pubs but a short cab ride away will get you there. All the staffs were really friendly and helpful. Went for a business trip with a baby in tow and didn't realize we were booked into a smoking room/floor, requested for a room change late at night and the staffs were very accommodating. What they lack in modern room facilities, they make up in the hospitality department. However, bugs are a main issue! Ants everywhere in the room, was stressful dealing with that. Fridge provided in room, but wasn't cold enough. Sink leaks for the two nights we were there. Shower curtain was disgustingly gross with mold on it. The cafe food was surprisingly good for the days we were there, we had their buffet breakfast, tried their lunch and dinner too and couldn't find fault there.
Checked into room 721 on the 14th Dec. Dined in at the lounge and when we tried to order, was told there was no red wine. On the next night, we went to the coffee house and everything we ordered was not available. There was even no Heineken at the lounge! On the issue of basic amenities, there was no shampoo provided for the duration of the stay until we called the front desk to enquire. The bedside lamp was also faulty and the air conditioning is not cold at all. We were also told that the wifi was down during check in. Worse experience ever.
Very dirty and disgusting rooms, with bugs (ants and other unknown small beasts). No internet in the room during our stay (and no compensation offered, the staff just said "internet is broken"), out of the city (bad location). Stinky corridors (old and dirty, unhygienic carpetry on the floors). Avoid !!!
