We are still currently here, with very sadly leaving tomorrow. As Accor Plus members we are lucky enough to get late checkout of 330pm tomorrow afternoon. We will be filled with sadness leaving this piece of paradise, that has become a very special 5 night holiday. Accomodation: We chose a over the water sunset pool Villa and so glad we did as it is spectacular. The first thing we noticed upon entering our Villa was the beautiful smell. The cleaning staff spray a gorgeous scent on all the soft furnishings so you are overcome by the ambience of such a beautiful villa. It was superbly clean and the bed very luxurious and soft. We love the bed. The bathroom Is huge with a great private outdoor shower should you chose this. It is all in stylish tiles with a Moroccan theme. Absolutely everything you need (even scales which I’m not sure you need on holiday where great food and drink are concerned!) We also had turtles swimming last our villa everyday plus lots of little fish. I think the other accomodation Villas would be just as great but if you are coming to such a location, you would be silly not to go whole hog and get the best of the best. Facilities: all the facilities of the resort from the gorgeous Spa to the water sports to the gardens and tennis courts, beautiful infinity pool are A +++ class. You are not wanting for anything. Prices are all in USD and not to unreasonable for any tours etc. Staff: from the moment we were met at the little airport to our eager to please cleaning staff, the welcoming restaurant staff, the cheerful bar staff, the gorgeous Spa girls, the Water sports staff, the recreation staff and management, we have been treated so well. Big smiles and nothing is to much trouble. Such nice people and my husband and I loved how multi cultural the staff all are. We have enjoyed our conversations and got to know them well. Mercure, you have done a great job in hiring such outstanding people to represent your brand. Every single person who works here, should make you proud! Special mentions to amazing the Yumbar who was just a pleasure and made some awesome food for us. Deenesh, superb Barman, very engaging and very eager to look after us. Joanne, such a neat lady, friendly and very engaging. Just lovely. Ezra and Carolina (fellow Kiwi girl) from the water sports who were so helpful and lovely. There are some gorgeous wait staff and I’m so sorry I’m hopeless at remembering names but they are so cute and happy, and were like visiting friends every time we were in the dining area. Food: we were 100% happy with all the food we had and the drinks were well made. I’ve read some not so favourable reviews about the food here but we absolutely have been satisfied with all the restaurants from the buffet to A La Carte to the Tapas restaurant. Another reason we don’t want to use the scales in our bathroom! To Summarise to come to this resort may be a bit of a journey and quite possibly a bit daunting, to get here with flying into Male from wherever you come from, then another hour in a small plane to the resort (for us it was from New Zealand which meant 3 planes and a total of 15hours flying plus all the waiting at airports, customs etc so nearly 24 hours in travel). It is totally do-able if you break it up, by maybe having a few days in Singapore before carrying on to Male. We definately think it is very worth it and we will be going back to New Zealand to spread the word about how amazing and special our time here was. We think we are now Mercure Maldives brand ambassadors as well as Accor Plus ambassadors. Their loyalty program is outstanding and you are treated as VIPs. Thank you so much for this amazing memory of our time in the Maldives.
Great mid level resort awesome staff especially the private house keeper we went fishing and the head chef prepared the fish for dinner within minutes staff could not do enough to make your stay anymore enjoyable
The booking The resort is about an hour flight away from Male Airport and the reservations team will contacted us to make the necessary arrangements for the internal Maldivian flights. The whole booking was seamless and smooth, and we were informed of our domestic flight a day in advance. Arriving Male On arriving Male airport, we were escorted to the domestic airport, the representative will sorted out the check in for us and we waited about an hour at the lounge. The lounge serves simple sandwiches, hotdogs, omelette, coffee, tea and coke. The resort We booked the resort for four days (but wished we could stay for at least two weeks) and as our flights were scheduled to reach at 1pm, our room wasn’t ready and fortunately we weren’t in a rush to check in because our patience paid off and we were given the best room! We did a short tour around the resort and it was peaceful and quiet perhaps it is the low season. However, despite being the off peak season, we had the full sun for 4 out of the 5 days. Overall, the location of the resort is perfect as it faces the inside of the atoll and the waves were light and could snorkel almost anywhere around the resort. The room We were given the perfect room! In fact, all of the sunset view rooms are perfect as it has a clear sunset view across the ocean. The room is very clean and has both an outdoor and indoor shower and a bathtub, bed and pillows were soft, and we had good recharge daily after a day of activities. If one is lucky, which we were quite lucky I say, one would see dolphins swimming out to the ocean not far away from the room during sunset! The snorkel Most rooms (except beach rooms) have direct access to the sea and we were fortunate to get a room that is probably 3-5 meters swim away from the deeper sea. When we snorkeled near the deeper sea, we saw a wide variety of fishes swimming and saw sea turtles too! And on one occasion, we saw adult reef shark swimming just a couple of meters away from us. The food The breakfast buffet at Akita had a good international spread and my favourite is their croissant. Just focusing on the croissant (which I had two daily), it is freshly made, crispy, flaky and buttery. In my own opinion, the croissant is better than the ones I had in France! I didn’t opt for the “All inclusive” because I was on a diet but I did visited the restaurant during lunch and see that the spread is very good too. We order ala carte food on most days and I really like their fish and chips as they use the freshest fish! It was so good that I had it for lunch and supper on one day, The resort has daily specials and on one night it was lobster Sunday and the chef BBQ-ed the lobster to perfection (now I salivating while writing). We also tried their other restaurant, Vistas, on one night and they serve great beef ribs. The activities Loads to do, apart from snorkelling, there is diving, fishing, sandbank visiting, jet ski and local village visiting. We did fishing and managed to catch a wahoo which the resort offered to cook for us. We also visited a sandbank with Toby and I have make special mention of his professional service. While we visited the sandbank via jet ski, which was exclusive to the few resorts around Gaafu, we were fortunate that there was no one around. So while we were taking some videos with our drone, Toby made the effort to drive the jet skis away from the shore to the sea so that the jet skis will not be in the picture. He was really thoughtful and take note of the details. And on both ways to and fro the sandbank, he was always on the constant lookout for dolphins and he spotted twice during the journey and brought us near the dolphins. Really dedicated service I must say. The service Service was exceptional from all the staff, everyone was focused on doing their job right and we were pampered by their care. Shoutout to Dinesh, the bar manager who took pride in his role in serving the best drinks. We had a great time at the bar and on movie night where the staff served popcorns and were attention to ask if we need seconds after we finished the first. Lastly, thanks to Nimesh and his staff for the enjoyable stay. We will return.
Love the environment, staff, hotel service and everthing, very enjoy and happy to spend my 10 year anniversary, they do decoration my room and it is memorable for me and my husband, must thanks hoodh, Thanks Jo-ann she is very friendly and warm us when the last time we are going to check-up in the afternoon and our package is not included for the lunch, she do invite us to have the buffet , very touch and warm! i do Thanks for the diving team, your professional make me brave to challenge diving ^^ very good place worth coming back, thumbs up :)
We visited this hotel for our 10th anniversary, the hotel is magnificent. We had an over water villa with private pool and it's everything you'd expect from such an experience and more.. The villa layout is very well thought out, it's relatively new and well equipped... Bed is very comfortable and the views are amazing. The private pool is good size and the deck area is private enough... The staff are super friendly and they treated us very well especially as Accor Platinum member. Honestly the only minor gripe I would have about this hotel is the food variety and the slow service at the restaurants.. Sometimes it took forever just to get someone's attention to ask for a drink. We would definitely go back to this hotel in the future.
From the moment we landed in Male and were greeted by the Mercure staff to the moment we were accompanied back to the airport for departure, our stay was perfect in everyway!! If it wasn't already impressive enough that we were greeted in Male upon arrival, as soon as we landed the resort was right there so no additional travel was required. As soon as we stepped foot on the resort our breath was taken away by this pristine paradise. We stayed in an over the water sunset pool villa which we found to be perfect in size for us as a couple. We found every element of design for the Villa truly luxurious. We particularly loved the bathroom and outdoor shower. The resort itself is small and intimate which felt very exclusive and luxurious to us. We had the breakfast buffet and opted out for the lunch and dinner buffet which we regretted because the Buffet was outstanding. We loved our daily routine with Chef Juber and Chef Yambar for breakfast who made us feel truly special during our entire stay. Every morning they went above and beyond in their service. Equally as genuine in their service were bartenders Dinesh and Nalin. Not only was their attentive and personalized service exceptional but they custom made cocktails for us everyday. These two teams were always anticipating our needs which made us feel very cared for. My partner and I travel frequently all over the world and this is by far the best experience we have ever had. We both feel that it will be very difficult to top what we experienced in both service and accommodations. I should also mention the Gym was amazing with all new equipment and a view of the water. One couldn't ask for a more inspirational setting. Mercure Kooddoo Resort defines luxury in a very understated, unpretentious and simple style which we fell in love with and which has eternally captivated us. Thank you so much to everyone that made this the most special and most memorable holiday we have ever had. We feel so blessed to have had this experience with you. It was truly magical!
This was one of, if not the best hotel we've ever stayed in. That's Accor hotel or not. Across Sofitel to the W to the Ritz, this Mercure is 5 star. There are some things that one needs to take into consideration for example the tiles used in the bathroom aren't the most expensive, however, they look great. The property has been open for around a year and it doesn't seem to have weathered much at all. My wife and I have stayed in over-water bungalows in other places before so something appealed to us about having a beach villa. We're so happy that we went with the beach villa. I'm an Accor Plus Gold member so the hotel was kind enough to upgrade us to a villa with a pool. I'm not a big pool guy, but I must have jumped in that water 3-4 times just because it looked so freakin' awesome. The room itself is a great layout with plenty of space. The bed is super comfortable. Maybe one downside is the amount of sand that you can easily track in. I think it would be nice to have a mat or tray for shoes and sandals at the door when you enter. Around the property, it was really well kept. The gym was more than enough. It was great that the dive center offered free snorkeling equipment. The water around the property was stunning and the coral and fish that you can see look incredible. There's definitely different marine life that you'll want to explore here compared to Thailand or Australia or Fiji (3 other snorkeling places we've been in the last 6 months). Looking at the food and beverage offerings, it's pretty good but could be better. The buffet breakfast is fine. There are plenty of choices, but I would imagine that after a few days it would be repetitive. Vistas, one of the restaurants, only serves dinners and to be honest, it should also serve lunches as it give people a different option from the lunch buffet or a la carte menu in Alita. There's only so many buffets a person can have. A la carte is the way to go. You might have to wait longer to get your food (you def. will), but it's worth it. The staff there is very well trained and nice. They're not friendly like Thai smiley friendly, but they're friendly and genuine in their own way. It felt legit and not put on. I would be happy to go back there. One obvious downside is the flight to and from the island, but it's understandable and probably very unavoidable.
The trip was amazing the hospitality was great. And Juber from the resturant was supportive. The diving was Great Carolina was so supportive. We also did fishing and it was worth it. All in all great place
what a beautiful property and what beautiful people. the staff was warm , the food was good. great hospitality . special thanks to the staff and especially Sandeep, who went out of their way and made sure that my son’s favorite toy reached us here in mumbai. completely unexpected and heartwarming at the same time!
We spent 6 nights in a sunset villa, but I don't think there are any bad rooms; we even visited a room on the beach which are beautiful and intimate as well. The service and welcome was out of this league, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to help. The resort itself is gorgeous and newly built, so in very good condition. We could have easily stayed for weeks, and we heard from experienced Maldives travelers (staying there for the third or fourth time) that it is one of the best resorts in general and one of the best in the world for diving! Since we read the negative reviews and hestitated before booking, I would like to address some of the concerns and our view: "sea cucumbers and dead coral"- Indeed, if you snorkel really close to the rooms, it can be a bit disappointing...but swim for 5-10 minutes or so to the dark water, that is the edge of the coral reef and you will see thousands of fishes, healthy coral, sea turtles, sharks etc. "not enough variety of food" There were at least 8 options of different main dishes for lunch and dinner which changed every day and were wonderful each time. The only way to get bored would be to eat the pasta/european style dish which only had 1 hot dish choice per meal (but still we never saw the same!) We greatly enjoyed the well balanced seasoning of the dishes. Juber was kind enough to make us a delicious fish dish especially for us for our last meal! "water sports are limited" - this we do agree on, paddle board/kayak was restricted to a small area within the villas, but since we got our PADI OWD certification while there the scuba diving was spectacular. Even without diving, you could enjoy the snorkeling every day on the reef without tiring of it! There was some confusion on the organization of our diving sessions which could have been more clear, but apparently the responsable manager has been replaced as other guests had complained. The diving instructors were great! There is a port nearby, and sometimes there was a boat upwind producing fumes which came back to the hotel...out of their control unfortunately otherwise I'm sure they would help given their implication in every guests' experience Same goes for Maldivian airlines, not the greatest little planes and not very punctual... Before leaving, we had a massage as well which was spectacular. Our only thought heading back home was about when we will be able to return!
