Except the fact that it is well located there's nothing I see as a reason to stay there again The health faucet was not cleaned for decades and was unusable. Only upon requesting it was attended to. Isn't this a basic thing for any housekeeping personnel? The very highly priced Food as well as the breakfast was average or below average. Given a choice I wouldn't stay here even with a free coupon!
The rooms are small and cozy. The bathrooms seem a little old & damp. The food in both the restaurants are awesome and the small confectionary sells tasty pastries. Parking is an issue as there are only limited parking spaces. Swimming pool was non functional. There is also a small banquet Hall for parties and marriages. Staff cooperated well.
This hotel is located in heart of the city, but the rooms are dated, bathrooms are quite old. Breakfast is very ordinary and service is also most zero. You can sit at the table waiting for food or even somebody attending to you even for water. We had dinner on 7th night at the MYTH and it was a tough experience with food finishing at the counters, waiting for breads forever. Look for other options if you can or else don't expect and great service or hospitality at HHI.
We were booked here by our tour company. Building is older and a litttle dated in places. Pool was out of action on our arrival but did reopen on the next day. All staff super friendly and helpful. Biggest fail for us was the noise from the basement disco that finally stopped around 3 am. We were on the highest floor and still could hear it. Room was comfortable and aircon efficient. Breakfast buffet has something for everyone and excellent coffee. We would choose another hotel next time.
Old Hotel, Need lot of Maintenance, particularly plumbing in bathroom, The Food is repeated, No much difference between Lunch/ Dinner Menu, No local offerings, except 1 item in Desserts..... Central Location!!!
Stayed here for a month when i was on duty and it was nice. Rooms are pretty good but old. Room service is very slow. Staff is not at all friendly and not very cooperative. The buffet for breakfast lunch and dinner is decent. Theres also facilities like gym, spa, swimming pool etc. But i would also say there are better options in the city at the same price.
It was an fabulous and fantastic experience staying at HHI Kolkata. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I would specially thank Maria and Dennis. Keep it up. I would love to stay at HHI whenever I am in Kolkata.
Recently stayed there for a day/night. My experiences are as follows: (a) The driver who came to the station for the pick up did not properly know the location of the hotel. During peak office hour, most of the roads in Kolkata allow one-way traffic, and it is very difficult for even a seasoned person to find the right way. But it was surprising that the driver of a hotel was also struggling to find the right way. We had to spend about half an hour unnecessarily on the road. Perhaps it was not a serious issue, which I also understand. But it was not a pleasure or holiday trip; we went to Kolkata for some important work, and we were supposed to leave immediately after reaching the hotel. Also, after a train journey, everyone wants to reach a shelter as quickly as possible, and at those moments even one minute of unnecessary delay becomes unbearable. (b) The room was just OK, not very spacious. We were given a room with roadside view, and we found that the window glasses were quite dirty outside. Maintenance was not as good as we have seen in some other hotels. (c) As per our package, we were supposed to get some cookies in our room and a basket of fresh fruits. These were missing. I categorically mentioned that in the front desk, and the lady receptionist assured me that she would arrange that immediately. Unfortunately, neither cookies, nor fruits came to our room. I do not know how many times they expect their guests to remind them for fruits and cookies. (d) Dinner time – it was a total chaos. When we went for the dinner, we were asked to wait for 10-15 minutes, since all the tables were full. Fair enough; we went for a brief walk, and came back to dinner hall only to find that there was no change in the situation. We were asked to wait, and therefore we were expecting that they would call us the moment a table was available. But we noted that while we were waiting, the other guests were just entering the dining hall and grabbing the tables the way it is normally seen in a roadside dhaba or office canteens. The entire chaos was created by the so called “efficient” hotel staff only. I approached a person who was busy with preparing bills, and told about the problem. He did not even care for giving a reply to me. I asked one lady staff whether we should go outside for dinner, and she also could not give a proper reply. Finally, one guy came for the rescue, who actually had watched us for quite some time. His name is Mazhar. He was the only person there, who was extremely efficient, energetic and courteous. He cleaned one table for us, served hot garlic bread and every few minutes he came to us and asked whether we needed anything. We also watched that he was not giving any special treatment to us. He alone was serving almost the entire hall, and he was taking care of almost all the tables with equal energy and keenness. As far as food is concerned, I really cannot make any special mention of any item in their buffet spread. Some typical veg items which you get everywhere, and some typical non-veg items of chicken and “basha” fish. That’s all. Did not feel any temptation to fill my stomach more than my usual diet. In the dessert area, most of the items were gone and there was no refilling by the hotel staff. (e) Breakfast – chaos again. Breakfast quality appeared little better, perhaps because preparing the breakfast items do not need much skill. Again Mr. Mazhar cleared a table for us, and ensured that we did not leave the hall without breakfast. Finally we left the hotel, heading towards railway station. Overall, the stay in HHI, including food, was pretty ordinary. At the best it is a 3-star hotel. This hotel has a great positional advantage, and this is the only reason for which I may visit this hotel again. Otherwise there are better places in Kolkata. This hotel badly needs more people like Mazhar.
As we were staying at the HHI whilst an IPL game was being played at Eden Garden we both were very keen in attending the game. We approached the Duty Manage on duty the morning of the game and asked him about procuring tickets for the game. It was then that Dennis went above and beyond his obligations for us. He not only booked the tickets for us but he went, after finishing his shift, to collect the tickets and deliver them to us back at the hotel. A special thank you to Dennis for making our stay in Kolkata even more memorable. Thank you to your housekeeping staff who also made our stay very comfortable.
We were very disappointed in this hotel. Breakfast very basic, staff unfriendly and not at all helpful. Not up to expectation for 4 star hotel. We have stayed in six excellent hotels in India on our visit and the HHI was disappointing
