We spent four nights with our 3 year old daughter at Haad Yao. We had a meal in Koh Raham and loved it so much decided to enquire about accommodation as we had seen the beach front villas. We were shown round by Toey, the very enthusiastic and helpful customer services guy. Our villa was perfect for the 3 of us with great use of space. The beds were really comfortable and the balcony had a great hammock and sun lounger. Secret beach is a great beach for snorkelling and u can snorkel off the end of the restaurant too. All the staff were really friendly and welcoming. The Koh Raham restaurant is like a small jungle and very well maintained with swings and hammocks and small corners to chill out in. They do great food and Mo and other staff are really great. Sorry to leave especially the massage place which was soooo good!
Nice afternoon at the restaurant. We only had drinks. Good ambiance, nice views, fun place to hangout for the afternoon. Good and inviting beach - would be nice to have a fresh water shower to rinse off - otherwise good hangout spot.
We upgraded to a beach front room after being shown a bungalow at the furthered corner up many steps. Which was average to say the least. The room was comfortable enough but did not have a fan or mozzie net so your only option is to have the door closed at night with the A/C. Even though with the doors open you would get a lush sea breeze but get eaten by mozzies. The staff were friendly, especially in the restaurant. The sun set view from there is beautiful. The beach is no secret being packed full of bodies. It is definatly not worth it for the price. You can find much better for less money
We went in August with 2 kids. Location is just amazing. We had a bungalow overlooking the beach. Breakfast is from 8 till 10 which was OK for us. Restaurant on the beach is just amazing. It was built on the rocks and the view is just amazing, especially sunset. Resort has everything you need. Free WiFi everywhere (even in the beach), great restaurant etc... Kids loved it. All the staff is nice and helpful.
We weren't supposed to stay at the hotel but we had such a bad experience in another hostel that when we saw this, we said, why not? Let's see if they have a room. Turns out, they had an amazing deal on bookings.com so we went for it, without knowing much other than what tripadvisor said. The people at the reception were kind and friendly, the restaurant and bar staff were helpful and professional. Totally recommend their mix of fried fish, by the way, it's a huge serving but it's worth it. The beach was always clean and quiet, and there were a few massagers available there. Other awesome thing: the hotel main lobby has books you can read, left by other travellers and tourists , and you can find them in many languages! A plus for a language geek like me! Awesome experience.
Every time we visit Koh Phangan, we always choose this hotel. We booked the beachfront villa. Price : good value for money. Of course during the high season, the price changes. Our highlight is the beach bar Koh Raham. Even if our room is next to the beach bar, the noise did not disturbed. Also you will find the secret beach next to it, restaurant and a massage cabana. The nice lady at the reception was great to organise our transport to the Full Moon party. She advised and warned us about the party and around. We left our key at the reception everytime that we go out.
We arrived at the hotel at 8:45 p.m. and couldn't find the reception. All the lights were turned off, there was not a soul to help us. We called the hotel multiple times but no one picked up. After 45 minutes of going up and down a really steep path we finally found the reception, but all the lights were turned off and it was closed. We were desperate and exhausted at this point and decided to go to a restaurant on the beach, near the hotel. They called someone from the hotel who arrived after 10 minutes and instead of greeting us told us "you're late". Angry and exhausted, we replied we came as soon as our flight landed and that we just want to go to our room and rest. The gentleman looked angry and said he did not have to let us in, as we were late. We did insist that we had a booking with them and we tried to call (plus where would we go, there are no taxis in this area and it was 9:20 pm, no hotels nearby and we obviously did not want to sleep on the beach... ) and so they opened the reception and the first thing we come across was a paper saying the reception hours were until 10 pm. When asked about it the staff replied "it's low season so we close early" - even earlier than what they advertise on booking/on their own reception... and then they complain with their guests... We also spotted a paper that said they only clean the room every other day- which is not common in hotels and left us very disappointed. We finally get into the room and as we were so tired we decided to get room service (we had seen earlier on booking that we could) but it turned out that the hotel had no menu/phone in the room. There is no restaurant either, there is breakfast served near the reception from a small "set breakfast menu". So after 12 hours of flights/transfer we did not eat as there was nowhere to, even though they advertise they do have room service. We were also really disappointed by the room- there was a balcony that on the pictures shows long chairs, a table, lights and a very clean look but we found a dirty balcony with one dirty plastic chair. We requested long chairs in the room but were told there weren't any. Staff is not particularly friendly, in fact they don't seem happy to help at all and they ignore your presence. The hotel itself is dirty and it doesn't have good conditions. The bathroom did not have a towel/shampoo holder, there was no hand soap either and barely any toiletries. The beach is not amazing- a lot of corals, no chairs and the staff look at you with a weird face when you request beach towels (our beach towels were also full of bleach marks). It could be lovely especially because of the café with swings and rocks where you can jump and go swim with fish but it's not well preserved. You can't really get out of the hotel and go around to see restaurants or anything without a taxi, so it is quite hard to move around the area. We checked out earlier and On our last day when we requested a taxi to go to the pier after the check out the gentleman said "a taxi left five minutes ago and now there are no more taxis", and refused to call one for us. We seemed to be the only guests of the hotel, which made us feel very insecure, specially because there's no security or even staff at night and because one member of staff who seemed to hate us, was very rude all the time (the one who said he didn't have to let us in, even though we had a reservation and were on time...) Haad Son was the worst hotel experience in my life and I would not recommend it, not even to my enemies. Do yourself a favor and go look somewhere else.
Haad Son resort is a beautiful, relaxed resort right on Secret Beach. I stayed during low season which I personally think is the best time to visit the islands in Thailand. They upgraded my room for $10 US per night which was still dirt cheap, half off high season rates! The grounds are beautiful and the water is crystal clear and warm. The restaurant has wooden swings all around and you can even go snorkeling off the restaurant steps! The staff are amazing. The food at the restaurant isn't the typical super cheap Thai food, however, just up the entrance to the left at Bounty Resort there is a restaurant that serves dirt cheap food and drinks and is pretty darn good. The hotel is somewhat isolated so if you need something from 7-11 or a minimart you'll have to rent a scooter for 250B per day so you can drive to the next town over Srithanu. Or you could walk but it's kind of a haul. Worth it to rent a scooter to check out the adjacent beaches. Secret Beach also had a bar/restaurant that serves cheap eats although it's not as cheap nor as good as the Bounty. If you're looking for quality, beauty and tranquility then I recommend Haad Son resort.
We spent one week in one of the basic bungalow near the reception. Everything was fine from the bungalow (probably the only negative side was the ac split directly on the bed, but given my experience in Thai this is quite common) to the whole resort. Be careful that the resort is in the northern part of Ko Phangan, which is the more authentic and beautiful, but also a bit isolated (not for party animals!); its located near few of the most stunning beaches on the island and the restaurant on the sea is quite unique. If you rent a scooter however you can easily reach different shops, restaurants etc. The staff was kind and helpful, they can arrange all sort of services from daily trips, ferry tickets, transfer to pier (for around 500baht). Breakfast is 5 euro and you can choose between 5 menu including eggs, bread and jam, fruits, muesli etc. Very good value for money.
This is definitely a nice and clean property. Rooms are very basic and minimalist, not meant for luxury stay. There are two separate restaurants for dinner and breakfast. The food is decent, if not exceptional. The restaurant is located at a great location and the whole decor is very soothing. Pool is clean and maintained. My stay in this resort was comfortable but there's a great potential in improving the service. This was a second visit for my husband to this resort and he could feel the difference in the service.
