The reason we chose this hotel is the price-quality rate and the location. Location is great, lots of point of interests are at walking distance. Price is good, the airco worked, room good enough. In a row: The reception. Good enough, standard English. They know that this hotel (-chain) is popular. Breakfast. Is good enough, choices are there, fresh fruits, coffee, various breads etc are available. We stayed 3 nights and unfortunately they served exactly the same variety for breakfast. Bar. After dinner outside the hotel we took some dessert at the bar, the waiter was very friendly and helpful. The apfelstrudel (apple strudel) was so delicious we ended up ate them every night! The coffee was horrible, though. The ice with lots of nuts was also great. Room. Good enough, until we found out that they did not add the amenities and worse, they did not clean the room! I mean, they only did the standards. Beds were made, bathroom cleaned, but in a very quick way. The bathroom has fungus, the cup and saucer were left unchanged for many days and there was spider web on the lamp! Clearly the cleaner definitely did not do their work or they did not get enough time to clean the room properly! Cleanness rate: 3 out of 10. The overall point is OK, but the hygienic is very bad. We did not expect a high quality hotel, but a good hotel must be clean! When checking out, I told the reception and showed them the pictures and they looked shocked. I said I am going to write a review anyway. I was asked to send the pictures to them. Almost two months later, even though I did not send the pictures yet, the hotel did not even try to contact us through email. What a pity, apparently cleanness is not one of the hotel’s priority. This is the main reason I rate this hotel as “poor”.
My review is in two parts. I cannot fault the hotel accommodation, location, good shower in a spotless bathroom, comfortable bed, great breakfast. Friendly staff. Parking on site which was one of the reasons we chose it. On this occasion there is a BUT!. On arrival about 18.30 or so, we were informed that the hotel was overbooked due to a conference with a company with which the Hotel had a contract. They offered us free drinks while we waited for them to find a solution. We were offered a three bed suite in another hotel or two rooms 20 kilometres away. I very very nicely and politely refused. I explained that having booked and paid in full last January, I was not prepared to go anywhere else. I suggested they turf out any three attendees as I was staying where I was. Another 10 mins further consultation resulted in a room for my adult son and an upgrade to a really nice room on the top floor with a lovely view of the Fortress across the river. I have to give Felix his due. He solved the situation admirably in the face of my unwavering stance. There was no animosity on either side. The hotel is really nice and my advice would be...check for conferences!!
Went as a couple for 3 nights in August 2019 HOTEL/ROOM The room is very modern, if minimalistic, but overall pleasant to stay in and the bed is both comfy and huge! Very nice. The room was very quiet and we even got a nice view over the Rhine River, despite not having the upgrade for that. Hairdryer is of the slow hotel type so glad I had my own. Liked the fan heater in the bathroom which is not that common in other hotels! Hotel corridors could do with a bit of an update though. CAR PARK Car park - the hotel doesn't have it's own car park, but there is a discounted rate for the public car park under the hotel @ 12 euros per 24hrs, which adds up after a few days of stay, especially if you didn't expect that! LOL :))) Direct entry from car park back to the hotel which is very convenient though. LOCATION Location is very good - right by the river and close to the centre. FOOD Breakfast is very good and a good selection as well, given it is not such a huge hotel and 4*. We also had a dinner there once. Very good as well. VERY CONVENIENTLY, on weekends, brekfast is until 12 pm! Which is very good and a reason I added them to the booking. CUSTOMER SERVICE Could do with some improvement. Upon checking in, the receptionist was pretty bland. Didn't show us where the lift was, or the restaurant, so had to ask for both. Think he said the breakfast times, but I knew that. Also a bit of a glitch at the dinner - we ordered 1x salad and 1x burger, but the restaurant made a mistake when taking the order and delivered us an extra salad (but not together, so I didn't realise I wasn't eating what we ordered until half-way through the first salad and thought they just put down another one INSTEAD, so thought it was actually pretty good, and no big deal, and continued eating without mentioning it was the wrong one). The problem arose when the salad that we had actually ordered arrived a bit later. We explained immediately that there was a mistake but were charged later nevertheless, so paid without a word (there seemed little point...) It isn't about the money (was maybe a matter of 10 euros or so), but it was clearly the waiter's mistake and his manager hopefully realised that from our words, yet she still went ahead and charged us. (food was very good btw). Maybe it's her or maybe it's a bit of a culture of the place, that she somehow thought she would be in trouble if she had to report that mistake, so thought it was easier to just pass it on to the guests, especially as they didn't seem to make any trouble.... Or maybe she needed a bit more training on how to handle things like that. Another thing to address for Mercury Koblenz is for its staff to wear clean and washed uniforms. I was even wondering whether to put this in the review coz it's a bit embarrassing, but on one morning one of the waiters cleaning up the tables really smelled very strongly of weeks' old sweat. That was just one person, one morning, but it was vile each time he stopped by our table and leaned over to take away any dishes, etc.
It's my first time writing comment on Tripadvisor. It is my appreciation to Angela Hömig and the staffs in the hotel. Cut it short, I have stayed in the hotel in early August and left my kindle in the room and left. Angela and her colleagues helped me a lot in locating my kindle and post to my Hong Kong home and now my kindle and I reunited again. As a frequent traveller, I always leave belongings at the hotel. For example, I left my girl's Nike jacket in the room but cannot be found forever. So it is a great surprise to me and i have much impressed for Mercure hotel's helpful and kindness. This experience will definitely make me the loyal customer to Mercure Hotel or Accor hotels in future. Again, thanks for Mercure Koblenz Hotel
Had 2 Privilege River View Rooms for 5 nights that included free mini bar with 1 beer, 2 sodas and 2 water daily. View from room was great. Housekeeping needs improvements. For a 4 star hotel, we expect towels in better conditions than some torn ones. 2 spiders on ceiling in one of the rooms during the stay plus had to request missing replacement towels and amenities for the first 2 nights. We arranged to exchange the daily supply of beer and sodas for bottled water for one of the rooms. It worked until Sept 1 9:30pm when Melina B and Noelia V were on duty. The shocking rude attitude in treating guests like criminals were unbecoming. With much reluctance, the bottled water were finally brought to the room for exchange instead of having us took the drinks to the reception. To add insult to injury, we were charged on Sept 2 check out for a hotel bar bill of 7 beers and a cocktail drink that were supposed to be incurred on Aug 29. The fact is that we do not use alcohol. Mercure could not provide the “signed bill” to substantiate the charges. It took the staff quite a bit of time to have the charges removed but not before they had me signed a statement. I do not know German. For clarity and to avoid any future dispute, I added my explanations in English to the hotel statement that was hand written in German. With the unexpected delay, we were grateful that we did not miss our train to our next destination. Our trip along the Rhine River would have been perfect without these incidents.
Mercure hotel is a very large, modern building beautifully situated on the banks of the river Rhine. It has 168 large rooms spread over 7 floors, and there are spaces for holding conferences. Entering the hotel you’ll find the desk at your right and bar,a computer corner and large breakfast room at your left. The breakfast room has a small terrace where you can have your breakfast in Summer. All these rooms have a fairly modern design and look well cared for and clean. Check inn/check out went very smoothly. There was a leak in the bathroom and we immediately got an other room. Staff is kind and helpful. We asked for a guiet room and we got one (502). It is a large room with a large bed with two very good mattresses and two soft, terrible pillows (much too warm, which is common in Accor hotels). There are extra pillows and duvets in the cupboard. There is a side tabel on each side of the bed with its own lightening. Opposite the bed is a large TV, which we did not use, so I cannot comment on this. There are coffee/teafacilities and a bottle of water for free. There is a fridge next to a fairly large wardrobe. The room has a good working, individually controlled air-conditioner. Because of the noise it is wise to put it on position 1 at night. There is a properly working wifi for free too. The breakfast is very plentiful and on the whole of good quality. There are several kinds of bread, cheese and meat products, juices, yoghurts and curd cheese and you can even get freshly baked eggs. We once had dinner in the hotel which was of a very good quality. All-in all, the hotel is very recommendable. Tip: Next to the hotel is a cozy garden restaurant where you can get a good meal at a reasonable price.
The hotel location is just great with Rhine views. Rooms are very clean and handy. Breakfast proposes a large choice of food. Parking is located just underneath the hotel with a direct access and special hotel rates.
This hotel is close to the river and the room that we got had a great view of the Rhine River. It's our preference to stay not so close to the center of the city but a short walk from it and this hotel was in the right location for us. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The hotel is very clean and smells good.
Second time I have stayed here. We were well receieved ..in English. The service was polite and efficient. The room had all mod cons and an excellent view of the Rhine reflecting the hotels ideal location for exploring the surrounding area. We booked a meal deal and it was well worth it providing a good meal with drinks as well as breakfast. Would go again.
We stayed 3 nights. Room was large enough to visit with a relative from another room. Coffee.tea in room. Fridge. Was about 30 C during the day outside but comfortable in room. Staff unlocked window so we could open it wide, get cool night air and take night photos of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. With window closed was very quiet for good night’s rest on good bed. Breakfast buffet bountiful, tasty with choice of espresso coffees and excellent filter coffee.
