Very nice resort, directly on a very nice beach! We had a bamboo cabin just (#614) a few meters behind the beach with the balcony with sea view, amazing view and always some fresh wind in the cabin! The resorts restaurant is very good, and I can highly recommend it, best food we get on koh jum!!! I can also recommend to book a scooter and drive the resorts own road to the islands main road, it's an adventure! Also visit ban koh jum in the south and the beach with its resorts up north at the end of the road. The road ends on a huge wonderful beach!!!
Calm, relaxed and very friendly resort . Simple yet elegant - clean and right at the beach. Outstanding massage listening to the sea. Not too many tourists - enjoy the silence. Try the "Last Fisherman" restaurant 200 meters up the beach.
Visited here in March for 4 days on way back to UK from Australia. Didn't want a huge 5 star resort that could have been anywhere...this place is a lovely individual boutique resort. Beach bungalows are exactly as described..clean and overlooking the sea. Food was a pleasant to surprise and far better than more expensive establishments I've visited. Finally..the staff are so friendly and helpful. I will definitely return. Roy
We loved staying at Koh Jum Resort for 5 nights on our honeymoon- such a peaceful, quiet, beautiful resort. Staff were very friendly and helpful; we appreciated their commitment to making our stay so enjoyable (including cleaning the beach every morning). Food: Food at the restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced- standouts included the pad Thai, massaram curry, fried pineapple rice, all seafood, and banana fritters. Breakfast was good, fresh made omelets, local options, coffee, fruit and yogurt. Wouldn't hesitate to eat every meal at the hotel restaurant. Location: Having walked most of the west side of the island, this resort definitely has the best beach, at least in the northern end- soft, white sand, with some rocks in the water but fairly big so walking and swimming was easy. The southern beaches definitely felt busier. The smallness of the resort meant that it was very quiet (we were often the only ones eating in the restaurant), and that finding beach chairs / your own space was never a problem. Cons: Only cons would be that some of the sheets had faint stains on them (maybe invest in some more bleach or Oxyclean?), and that despite having a full tub shower in our room, there was no shower curtain to contain the spray- may be a simple fix? To Do on the island: A standout experience was the Phi Phi snorkelling tour that the hotel arranged for us- we had a fantastic time out with our boat driver (Sa?). Beyond that there wasn't much to do (which was exactly what we were there for!). We did walk into Ko Jum Village one day, along the road and beach- it took about 2.5 hours (hot and sweaty walk!) but nice to get a bit of activity in. We ate at Koh Jum Seafood in town, which was great, and picked up some cheaper beers and water to enjoy. Also ate at Oonlee Bungalows down the beach one night- very good food but more expensive. Room Type: Differences between them were somewhat confusing. We had a superior room in the third row back- at first we were unhappy at not being right on the beach, but ended up really enjoying the treehouse-like feel of ours. Spent a lot of time enjoying that balcony! Had them bring up a table so we could play scrabble :) No bugs in our room. Overall a great experience; would strongly recommend!
Journey here involves ferry from mainland then scrambling over longtail boats mid-sea to the one that goes to your resort. In our case, there wasn't one so we were directed to one from another resort and asked to pay an extra 200thb each. As ticket included transfer costs we were not happy, especially having to wait almost 90mins for Resort transport! A 20-min ride over very rough terrain ended any thoughts of scooter hire but once we entered our beautiful teakwood villa (no. 602), we were charmed. The large room was spacious with large balcony and comfortable cane chairs, and an uninterrupted view of the sea and pool area below. The bathroom was fabulous and featured a huge window with sunken bath and rain shower. We really enjoyed our time relaxing on beach swimming, sunbathing, and reading under the casuarina trees. NB: Sea best for swimming in mornings when clear and calm but gets choppy and cloudy in afternoons from longtails coming/going to meet ferries -difficult to see stones lurking beneath! Breakfasts at Resort were good, lunches excellent (club sandwiches, chicken saté, etc.) and served on beach, and dinners reasonable. We ate twice at Ting Rai next door till they forgot my husband's meal on second evening! On negative side, lack of aircon was a problem and to clarify, none of the rooms have it. What they do have is a wall fan unit that looks like aircon (and probably the cause of confusion), plus separate floor fan. I was aware other reviewers had found fans and open doors adequate but it wasn't adequate in 40+ degrees, + wall fan simply blew the mosquito net directly onto our bodies which wasn't ideal. Luckily, we didn't get many bites! Surprisingly when you consider the heat and location, Koh Jum attracts a lot of northern Europeans with very young families and, frankly, we found their loud screaming and grizzling at the pool below annoying and distracting. It spoilt any chance of enjoying a quiet read on the balcony before dinner but their parents were oblivious to it and we were pleased to have two peaceful days once they left! Why subject such young children to extreme heat and travel when there are warm countries much closer to home? These two things aside, we had a fabulous time on our 6-night stay.
Koh Jum is the place to chill, relax on the beach and just slow it down. This resort is nestled into the hill overlooking the sea. Rooms are not air conditioned but the fans, breeze from the sea and canopy of trees did not require it (when we were here). Kayak use is free...buffet breakfast is substantial with omelettes, French toast yogurt and fresh fruit. We found the food here very good and the restaurant has superb views. Massage for 400 baht in cabana overlooking the water is a great way to end the day. Highly recommend this little piece of heaven. Bit difficult to get here...but worth it once you arrive.
We stayed for 4 nights at the resort which is probably a suitable length. It was mostly very peaceful. Rooms are large but since the resort is on a hillside the walk up can be a bit heavy. No AC in the rooms but two fans and a mosquito net around the bed. Beautiful bathroom but water heater with erratic function and poor lighting in the entire bungalow. Plenty of mosquito, the odd snake and large spider. Very good food and friendly staff at the restaurant, no need to chase better along the beach. Most people seem to stay only 2-3 night on the way to Krabi or Ko Lanta. They rent scooters at the resort but the first kilometre out to the main road is very challenging with large puddles of mud and steep rocky hill climbs. We aborted the attempt and took a taxi. Beach is narrow at high tide and depth is then great for swimming. At low tide it becomes rocky and shallow. One issue could be the lack of child policy. The place is not great for infants or minors, making them and parents frustrated while other are there for the peace and tranquility. Not a great combination...
I loved the rustic,"one with nature"ambiance of this place. The villas are spacious and clean and offer a fantastic view of the beach below. The beach itself is an interesting mix of rock formations, with tide pools replete with numerous shells and fossils. Not your average beach! And much more interesting than most... The food was amazing. The curries are especially tasty. Breakfast buffet was plentiful and there were lots of healtty choices. We were there over new years and really enjoyed the family oriented celebration and buffet dinner. The staff went out of their way to make us comfortable. When one of our group got sick they made sure proper medical service was available. The only negatives to this resort are the rough, winding and mostly mud roads that have to be traveled to get here. Also, the on-site pool is a bit small.
I know from the previous entries here what to expect but was disappointed when there. We stayed 3 nights over New Year's eve and of course paid the high season price! We stayed at the basic huts with spectacular view over the sea but still the price of 150 Dollar per night was far too expensive! Of course if I pay half of the price, there is nothing to complain about... And offering a buffet for New Year for 1500 Baht per Person was not an option for us. Hey we are at a 5 Star Resort right now and they offer Seafood Buffett for 1750 Baht per Person... Nevertheless Koh Jum is beautiful, relaxing and enjoyable. Several years ago we stayed at Ting Rai Bay next to Koh Jum resort, which I would still recommend and regret not have booked there!
We stayed at the resort for a week and enjoyed total relaxation. The bungalows are comfortable and clean and the setting is heaven on earth. Our two teen girls stayed in a bamboo bungalow perched over the beach with a view over the Andaman Sea to the Phi Phi island. Our 11 year old and we stayed in a teak villa which was spacious and comfortable. This was a little further up the hill (good workout!) and had a balcony overlooking the pool, restaurant and beach. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the staff all very helpful. We also made use of the resort transport to get us to the village and hired scooters one day to explore the island. This is a slice of Thailand that I remember from 20 years ago - laid back and unspoiled. Definitely not a party island which is just what we wanted. Highly recommended.
