We originally booked sultan sands for one night but on arrival we changed our booking to two nights. The hotel is very clean, the staff are friendly, the rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. We were on an all inclusive package so breakfast, lunch and dinner were buffet style and they did not disappoint. There was always an option for everyone. During lunch and dinner staff were very attentive ensuring you had drinks and anything else they could help with. The views of the sea and beach were amazing from the hotel and the pool was very big and clean. Reception were very friendly and booked all our taxis so we had nothing to stress about. Our stay was amazing we regretted not booking for longer, from the second you walk into sultan sands the staff take care of everything and you can enjoy your holiday.

I’ve just stayed in the Sultan Sands for the last few days and I cannot recommend them enough!! Daas the manager couldn’t do enough for you! Our baggage didn’t arrive until the following afternoon and he rang the airport/drivers to ensure we had it for when we woke. It arrived late that night and thankfully we were good to go for the next day. I was ill on one of the days and he ensured I was ok, checking in with my group as to how I was feeling! The rest of the staff were brilliant too. Hakuna Matata!

We have been back in the UK 5 days now and only now managed to do a review. This place is amazing and beautiful. Unfortunately due to taking anti malaria tablets we were a little bit sick out there so we couldn't each much of the food. But when we did manage to eat, the food was very very good. It is rainy season at the moment and we had some pretty impressive storms, but the staff look after you. Please wear shoes in the sea. I stood on a sea urchin and couldn't walk for a week. The Maasai however were very good and looked after my foot through traditianal medicine and were very attentive. The doctor came to see us as well when we were feeling sick and gave us anti sickness tablets. The resort manager Dass is absolutely amazing. He really took care of us and his staff are so good too. We were there for 2 weeks and nothing was too much bother for the hotel team. They accommodated above and beyond our expectations. The pool is very good the sea was stunning, the hotel was very very clean and our rooms cleaned each day. We miss the staff and the hotel already and cant wait to go back. There is a safe in the room as well. And make sure you put the mozzy nets down over the bed each night as mosquitos can get into the room. Little hint - if you stay in the rooms around room 745, and you sit out on the balcony and you don't mind some wild life - take some banana or pizza and feed the bush babies.... they are missing us already - they come out about 9.00 at night and will come right up to you to be fed... so cute Dass- you are an absolute credit to your management and we hope to see you again soon. It was very good holidays. Delicious food, good drinks, clean rooms and bathrooms. Rooms are cleaning each day, even if you don't want it 😁. Personal very slowly, but it's Zanzibar, nobody's hurry up here

We loved our holiday in sultan sands resort. We had a pwani room with our 2 kids (3years and 10month) We got an extra babybed.  The hole resort is really beautiful. We stayed there 11 days at the end of rainy season. The buffet was always enough and lot of different food, also really good live cooking :) so everybody should find something on this buffet. The beachboys can be a little bit annoying but they are always friendly. We bought some stuff from different beachboys (also when we don't need it really) but we think it's important to support them a little bit. And honestly it's really nice handcraft. The most positive thing on sultan sands is the staff. They were all friendly and really great to our kids. Special thanks to Kalei, Hussein and Fadhila! They're so lovely and sweet! You made a great job! There is only one little thing we struggled a little bit with: the dinner begins for us too late at 19:30. Maybe that is only the problem for us with the kids. But we think 19 o'clock would be much better :) What we also didn't know was, that there is no ATM in this area. So if you need cash you have to go to stonetown (1 hour drive) - but this has nothing to do with the hotel review! Thank you for beautiful days in Zanzibar Amber, Ruby, Stefan & Jenny

Everything is really good, but the thing is: Once you step on the beach, there are bums offering you things and you can’t get a rid of them, even if you do soo, someone else will come. Even I was approached three times in the heavy rain, when I went for a walk on the beach .

We stayed 12 days in the Sultan Sands Resort and we were perfectly satisfied. The hotel has an optimal size. It is small and nice. Even if you prefer a larger hotel you won’t be disappointed as you can also use the Blue Bay Resort aside – drinks and food is excluded from All-inclusive here. Back to Sultan Sands: there are three categories of rooms. On the top of the slope are some larger buildings with several parties. Beneath there are some small African bungalows with garden view with two parties each and also single bungalows with sea view. We stayed with 3 persons in the two-parties bungalows with garden view. The rooms are spacious and sufficient. The bathroom could be a bit bigger but fulfilled its purpose. Everything was very clean and tidy. The garden around the bungalows was very well maintained and clean. The hotel has a total of 3 pools, two large ones and a small one close to the sea view single bungalows. There was also a beach bar and a main restaurant which offered a lot of variety depending on the theme night. Every evening there was another show and my personal highlight was the Saturday evening where the dining tables and the buffet were arranged around the pool. The staff, which served us, was always in a good mood and friendly. Of course, there were some moments when the staff seemed bored or forget things, but this would be complaining on a high comfort level. Don’t forget that it is still an African island where everything seems a little slowed down. All locals say "pole pole" to you, which means “slow down - unhurried”. The beach is a dream! Part of the beach belongs to the hotel where you could enjoy absolute tranquility. This area is separated. To enter the sea you have to go down stairs to the public beach and then enter the sea. Entering the sea in that case is a bit tricky! The beachboys & girls (locals trying to sell you stuff) ... are a very disturbing factor if you just want to enjoy your rest. You will be followed to the water. Often a simple “no, thank you” was not enough. They were all always nice and friendly, trying to start a small talk with you but in the end they always wanted to sell you something. The security guys at the beach, were more or less silent observers and mostly paid attention that these guys don’t enter the area of the hotel. After a conversation with the hotel manager, he immediately endeavored his security staff to hinder the "annoying" beach boys to bother the guests! Here I also want to highlight the hotel manager "Mr. Dass". Have rarely met such a great person. He lives his profession. He always tried to lip-read all our wishes. He was always present and with a smile on his face. We have already seen some countries, traveled to hotels from 3 to 5 stars and met different kind of managers. Mr. Dass was by far one of our highlights. Mr. Dass, we would like to thank you and your staff again for all your efforts to make our holidays and our stay at the Sultan Sands unforgettable. If we come back to Zanzibar, it will definitely be the Sultan Sands again.

We enjoyed our stay at The Sultan Sands, although our room was up a hill, quite a walk from the main building and the beach, with no views. The beach facilities and pool were good. The food was a bit hit and miss, generally OK, not great. There was live entertainment every evening, which we really enjoyed. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, otherwise well equipped. Service for check-in and at the various restaurants (not the self-service) were very slow. Otherwise staff very good.

Hotel is well equipped, food is delicious, staff - helpful and friendly, pool and beach gorgeous!!! Every evening nice entertainment. Good location. We checked some other places being here - no doubt Sultans Sands is the best choice! All guest agree they there absolutely surprised on Easter afternoon, then local chorus presented concert for us!!! Going back home everyone started plans to come back here again...!!!! Hakuna matata!!!

Just finished our one week stay at Sultan Sands and we were very sad to say goodbye to this lovely resort! We arrived late last Friday and managed to make it on time for dinner. We were amazed at the quality of food on offer and really impressed with the variety of choices. It was a fantastic start to our stay. We were met by the wonderful resort manager Mr.Dass Banger who was very friendly and welcoming. Our room was right on the beach, with our balcony walking out into the sand - a wonderful surprise for when we arrived! This was definitely a highlight of the stay. As the week progressed, there were one or two nights were there was an evident decline in the quality of food; certain dishes were not of the same standard as they had been at the weekend, perhaps they make a special effort with dishes on weekends? We travelled with one other couple, all ranging from 24-30 in age, and we found it quite quiet in the evenings, even being asked to turn off our speaker on one occasion (there is music every night for a couple of hours, but during the day at the pool and bars there is none) On Thursday night there were a fantastic dance group who were the most amazing group of dancers we ever seen, and a disco followed this - the dance floor was packed and it even was followed by a pool party of sorts!! We would have loved if this holiday vibe was a more regular occurrence in the resort, but it was a nice surprise for our last night! The all inclusive drinks menu is somewhat disappointing. We found ourselves drinking cocktails that curdled and iceless drinks on many occasions. It would be great if some popular cocktails such as mojitos, daiquiris, sex on the beach, etc. were added to the menu as the ones available are very medicine like in taste. Also, cider and a variety of beers would be very much welcomed. It became a bit of an effort to have a few drinks towards the end of the trip, so much so that we resulted in ordering from the bar menu and paying extra for some nice drinks! The bar staff, some are extremely friendly, Eric and Lameick in particular spring to mind, however, others make you feel very guilty for ordering drinks and we had even been asked on a number of occasions if we had finished with our previous round of drinks, this made us feel a little unnecessarily greedy, which was not a nice feeling! The rooms were cleaned everyday at an acceptable standard. However we noticed things like rubbish bins weren’t emptied and the towels often smelt damp. Some little touches that I have seen in other hotels and resorts when it comes to the cleaning of the rooms, were not there. But overall, they were cleaned daily and this was good! Be prepared for a lot of insects, there are little lizards everywhere and we even had a visitor in our room one night. We didn’t mind these as we happen to love these little creatures but if you’re not a fan, be prepared! The beach is very nice but again, be prepared to have your relaxing walk interrupted anything up to ten times by the men on the beach front who will try to sell you anything and everything, lovely guys but sometimes a bit too much! Overall, it was a very lovely week, and we are glad we have experienced the Sultan Sands resort. It was a relaxing week with only one or two minor issues that I’m sure will be easily fixed! Thanks to all the lovely staff! 😀
