Scandic Ferrum

3.5 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

This review will be all over the place, as is this hotel. We'll start from the top- the staff is world class. The front desk staff are multi-lingual, computer proficient, kind, professional, and could function in any five-star hotel in the world. The hotel location, in the center of town, was good. From the standpoint of being close to Abisko and the other landmarks (Ice Hotel, etc.), this was a top choice. And because we had previously stayed in a Scandic, we thought it would be an indicator to the same family of 5-star hotels. On a few levels this didn't work. First, we received no maid service. The first day we didn't check in until nearly midnight so that's understandable. The other days we were out of room the majority of the day (to Abisko, to the Ice Hotel, etc,) and hung the "Clean Room" sign, yet always returned to an uncleaned room, even when I called and pointed this out. We just received towel service, basically. The other good things: the buffet breakfasts and dinners, though limited, were available to guests, and the room size was decent, even though the decor and condition of the hotel is so past prime.

Stayed for 3 nights. Due to Easter holiday, most of shops and restaurants were closed, and bit quiet. Very close to airport shuttle bus station (front of police station), 110 SEK / one way. Kiruna bus station is about 10 min walk could take shuttle to train station from there. My room was mine side and it looked nice at night. Room was clean, good size for me. Breakfast was average, dinner buffet was very limited items (for Easter).

The hotel is in urgent need of refurbishment. The rooms are very dated. The hallways are simply dirty and urgently need new carpeting. Not recommended. Breakfast is ok. But the staff is not all that friendly.

We stayed here in a group package for on enight. Hotel is good, rooms are quite nice and spacious. staffs are friendly. Buffet breakfast had lot of varieties both vegetarian as well as non vegetarian.

We stayed for 1 night in this hotel as part of a tourist group and the stay was very comfortable. The location is ideal, many shops nearby, one of them for souvenirs and northern lights sighting tours. Rooms are sufficient and clean with tea-coffee machines. Bathrooms clean and with all necessities. View from the rooms was magnificent. Rooms were warm irrespective of outside temperature -10. Breakfast spread was sufficient with many options. Overall the stay was very good and would certainly recommend to travellers. Suggestion - Pl add more vegetarian options in breakfast for convenience of all travellers.

It is good hotel to stay at kiruna in terms of location. Have a restaurant and bar facility. View of the mines from the hotel was good to see. Overall experience is good . And this hotel is at high demand

We had 3 rooms booked and had paid premium prices for. The staff were obnoxious, especially the manager who didn't like having to admit that we had bookings for 3 rooms and not 2. She lso didn't think that because we are Australian, that none of us spoke Swedish. Thanks, but Swedish and Saami too! The things you commented about my family were uncalled for and unwelcome. A simple question of is there a kettle for hot water in our room, to be answered in English no, then muttered swedish that we didn't book rooms expensive enough to be given kettles or coffee. Pretty sure Premium Rooms were supposed to have kettles according to your hotel website. 2 nights that were forgettable.

This was my first time staying at the Ferrum. We travelled as a group of nearly 30 people for business. The check in staff was quick and friendly. Hotel grounds are very outdated. The bedrooms could do with some modernisation. Bathroom was nice and clean. The gym was of good standard for a hotel. There is also a sauna, but I did not use. Parking is an issue here and one day it was impossible to go uphill to reach the parking area. I mentioned to the reception staff and they said it would be fixed next day. The breakfast was very good with plenty of options. Overall this is not the best Scandic I have stayed in and it is overpriced. It cost more then Stockholm. The hotel restaurant was ok but nothing special. Beware they charge for a portion of mayo.

Very good hotel in Kiruna with excellent location. Breakfasts at a very good level. Friendly staff, Very good restaurant. Comfortable beds. Offices organizing trips right next to the hotel. Everywhere close - this hotel is a good choice!

After many outdoor activities like sledding, northern lights etc, go back to the hotel in exhausted condition. I think it's highly appreciated if there is a coffee maker in the room and mineral water as compliments. Thank you
